KIK shutting down due to SEC lawsuit

With in the past few hours news among the tech community has announced that KIK is going to shut down the message system in order to concentrate on the higher revenue KIN crypto currency in order to finance a fight against the SEC.

 

Sucks because the real time camera is a useful tool for vetting.

 

What else is there.?

We have never used Kik so not even sure what the advantages of it were over other methods of contacting people. I'm sure something will fill the void, at least for a while, and there's always the option of going back to how it was done for years before all the various phone messaging apps came along.

 

Here's one take on KIK shutting down I'm way behind the times on KIK, etc. but on the surface it doesn't sound quite right. The one people have heard of shutting down to focus on the one people haven't heard of. I suspect it's because one has proven not to make money, and the other has hopes (at least to the developers) of making money, and all the other reasons given are sort of just window dressing around that.

Three alternatiives are: Telegram, MeWe, and WhatsApp.

Facetime. Neither my wife nor I have had any trouble by giving a mobile phone number out to a prospective contact.

 

It is interesting that KIK is getting kicked to the side. I believe that its attraction for swingers was that it was cheap. Yinz gets what yinz pays for.

Giving out your mobile number to unvetted prospects is not a good idea.

We don't give out mobile numbers. I prefer internet based chat. A group of us are taking Discord for a spin, but I'm not impressed so far. Going to try MeWe next.

For us, KIK replaces Yahoo IM. Easier, portable, and allows us to bet without giving our phone number. Either someone will buy it and keep it alive or we’ll move on to SnapChat or WhatsAp.

      My wife and I have set up our account on SLS and have started to get some interest. But it seems that everyone wants to be contacted via Kik. Like 'nice profile, hit us up on Kik'.
       
      Is this pretty common? I get that Kik makes for a good platform to communicate without having to give out all your information but it seems odd that this is the initial contact-to live the conversation off site.
       
      I was just wondering if this was usual or not. I'm not necessarily uneasy about it; I haven't even contacted them. It just struck me as weird.

      We have used kik to chat with a few of our lifestyle friends, when we got frustrated with the SLS chat. It seemed like a few of our friends were on kik along with SLS or whatever other site they belonged to.
       
      But lately, we've seen a fair number of people popping up out of the blue on kik, strangers starting chats with us there first, and asking if we are swingers. Unfortunately, we get spammed sometimes there as well (e.g., "Hello, I'm so hot for you, please click this link to chat with me.").
       
      So, when did kik turn into a swinger-specific hangout?

      Over on SLS everyone keeps telling us they talk, share pics, etc. on KIK. My question is, when setting up the app on our phones... what's the protocol for those in the LS? Do we list his first name and her first name as the first and last name? What do are we do we fill in about and what do we leave blank?
