KIK for swinging?

My wife and I have set up our account on SLS and have started to get some interest. But it seems that everyone wants to be contacted via Kik. Like 'nice profile, hit us up on Kik'.

 

Is this pretty common? I get that Kik makes for a good platform to communicate without having to give out all your information but it seems odd that this is the initial contact-to live the conversation off site.

 

I was just wondering if this was usual or not. I'm not necessarily uneasy about it; I haven't even contacted them. It just struck me as weird.

Requests from SLS members to continue a conversation using a different method are generally made by people who have non-paid memberships. When a member is non-paid, the number of messages that can be exchanged in a day is limited.

Then again, they may want to just verify that the other couple is 'real' before they invest any time.

Yes, very common for us and we have a paid membership. KiK is way more convenient than SLS and allows all parties to chat.

I would agree, kik lets everyone have a group chat and remain anonymous. Frankly exchanging messages back and forth gets old really fast and if there are three four five six people involved everybody can be in.

It's been popping up more and more in profiles on SLS. We tried kik. Its great for endless texting and wasting time.

Wikipedia has a good description of this messaging app. It’s major advantage for folks in the lifestyle is its anonymity. Kik doesn’t require a phone number.

Kik seems to be the way most are going these days. I've used it off and on and it does seem to fit the swing scene fairly well. Ability to make groups, anonymity, etc.

 

If I recall when you first sign on it does ask if it can use your contact list to find connections. I told it "Um, hell no".

And, when you initially set it up do not enter your phone number for the above reason.

Don't know if Kik is one of them, but there are over 1000 apps that DO collect and share data even if you deny access. The list won't be shared until the Usenix security conference in August...

We are wary of social media footprint with lifestyle activities.

 

We do have KIK and we give that out instead of or cell/text numbers. Any pics or videos you share can be downloaded, saved, distributed, or reused at the receivers discretion. Like most IM apps you can accept, ignore, or block.

 

For us, we have same KIK as SLS. What “smart” unpaid SLS single males tend to do is send a message directly to KIK because they can’t access email or I. We hate it. Feel stalked and usually curse them out and block them (after getting the SLS profile name) and block on both. Shouldn’t be an issue if you JIK and membership bane are different.

We avoid anyone who wants to go through kik. It's just one more gimmicky way to hand over your personal information to a company that doesn't need it or to someone who exploits the company's carelessness in securing its data. Kik is just a solution to a non-existent problem that introduces another way to give up your personal information to the world.

 

Do things the simple way. Buy a burner phone you use for nothing but this. When you set it up, do so without providing any personal information. Tracfone, at least, will let you set the phone up without providing any information at all about yourself. That disconnects your regular life from this life without any inconvenience and you never have to give your real phone number to anyone or worry about who it's safe to give a phone number to. No need to trust an app.
