I asked my husband and he told me that you can tell becuase the women are conspicuously not wearing undies. I looked in them mirror and I think he may be right.

I used to host a board on iVillage about sex and marital intimacy. There were no swingers there. The people there used the word "vanilla", but it had a different meaning. To regular monogamous couples (the ones we call vanilla), the word "vanilla" means people who have sex in the dark, are opposed to toys, opposed to the use of porn for couples, hardly do anything beyond missionary, too embarrassed to talk about sex, etc. So, "vanilla" is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

To the BDSM community, swingers are vanilla. I used to visit a board called "Taboos", and they referred to everyone outside of BDSM as vanilla.

Yes. "Vanilla" is contextual. The submissive I work with has visited this and some related forums and was completely shocked to find out that it has an identical - yet completely unrelated - usage outside of BDSM.

(Ex., "vanilla" meaning 'not swinging' may not at all mean 'not BDSM', and vice versa.)

"Vanilla" is jargon and references what someone perceives to be normative behavior. Personal normal and social norms are not quite identical and yet often confused: think for a moment on one's reaction to seeing an open collar when the rest of the men are wearing neckties.  Similarly, the couple wearing bathing suits on a nude beach are normal but (context-sensitive) non-normative. Curiously, it is non-normative behavior that make people, stories, and life interesting.

I agree, there is no way to tell by looking.  In the our experience of our family, however, it is clear that woman-to-woman interaction is the fastest way to make a connection on what may be possible: early on me recruiting single women willing to have sex with a married man (my husband) several bi women with me as well, and more recently Clair with finding us a couple.

As a business traveler I could tell who the cheaters were by observing the interactions between men and women. Of course in my mind every couple at a bar were cheaters because I was and that is how my mind works.

When ever we travel and have time in an airport or other public place with lots of traffic, we play a game. We call is maybe, maybe not, hope not. This is where we point out couples to each other and guess if they are or are not in the lifestyle.

LoL we do the same thing! My favorite thing to whisper to my wife is "I'd do her" same goes for someone on TV.

But would your wife do her?

I've seen some women wear the jewelry, a Hotwife Necklace, a Queen of Spades Anklet, a swinger bracelet, or a threesome bracelet.  But it's delicate stuff so you'd have to be super close to see it.  And even if you saw it and picked up on the relevance there's no gaurantee they want you.  I have a girlfriend who has a queen of spades tattoo on her ankle and a bisexual symbol tattooed on her wrist.  But again you'd need to be close to pick up on them.  In general I think you just need to pay attention to the setting and peoples body language and actions.

Maybe someone can confirm or deny this, I saw this beautiful blonde have a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower between her tits. I was told this is a swinging sign, never heard this, is it true?

When we're on the prowl my wife will wear necklaces or anklets that communicate our intentions to those who are observant enough to noticeIMGP0253.thumb.jpg.6d23f84b68fd2220748d581aed0d1c58.jpg

let's do it again; I've never heard of the Eiffel Tower thing. The hotwife necklace (as in hunterdon's post) or an anklet with the same is far more direct. I'd go that route.

When I saw the Eiffel Tower tattoo, I had no idea what it signified but I had a guy at work that does tattoos as a side job and he told me this. I have seen the upside down pineapple, ace of spades, queen of hearts, and double 69. For me it's all about the atmosphere I'm in to recognize the swinging signs.

We are heading to Cuba on May 4th and will be staying at a non-lifestyle resort. As we enjoy getting together with other couples or inviting another guy to join us for some threesome fun, we are wondering if anyone has had any luck in attracting or getting the attention of potential interested play partners at non-LS resorts?

If so, does anyone have any suggestions/tips/tricks that could help us in seeing if there are other people in the LS like us that may be willing to explore the possibility of some adult fun during our stay? After all, we are sure that we are not the only LS people that frequent non-LS resorts from time-to-time.

Thanks and all the best to all Swingersboard members.

It's Monday so I thought we all could use a fun post to kick off the week. I just read a thread about "indicators or signs" about how you can identify yourself as a swinger which reminded me of a fun podcast I heard where they listed off all the ways you may be able to tell if your neighbor, co-worker, etc is a swinger.

      So I'll kick it off...

If you see your neighbor's wife headed out the door in a trenchcoat on a Saturday night...in August...well, they just may be swingers.

I and my wife have come across a few couples, who we were not sure were swingers are not and we found it very difficult to break ice

I have always wondered why no one has ever thought of a few secret signals that could convey the message, signals like that of the Masonic Lodge, which are understood only by swingers. These could be simple signals which only swingers understand. This will make things easier for both parties. Signals could be such If not understood by the other couple could simply be ignored without making anything obvious. These could be universal and could be propagated by all swinger websites

I have single female friend that I've known for the last year and a half. We're pretty comfortable with each other and our kids play together on a regular basis. Over the last year I've had a couple of times when my 'playdar' has given a little bleep with her. Usually by something that she's said or a feeling that there is just something there that I couldn't quite put my finger on. You know what I'm talking about?

Today we went out for coffee and were just talking, usual stuff, and she started talking about wanting to go to an event for a "meet & greet". I haven't been around too much to social events in the vanilla world but I've never heard this term used in any other format than swinging. So I asked her if she'd ever been to a meet and greet before. It might have been the way I said it but her body language and expression was kind of like omg did I say that? She didn't know about K and I and it was a reasonable response.

She's very open minded and our relationship is good so I came out to her that K and I swing and had been to a M&G before. Come to find out that my friend, back in the days before she was married (and subsequently divorced) had led a very 'open' lifestyle. Interesting isn't it? *BEEP* *BEEP*

When I told her that K and I swing and the parameters of our interactions with others she told me she had suspected something of the kind. So I invited her to come out with us some time to the club to enjoy an evening of dancing, a little wine, and (if she met someone she was interested in) a little play. She said she'd like to, just not right now. It's a busy time for everyone and I know that she's got some complications with her ex right now so I left it at an open invite. But that's also why I invited her, a little adult down time is sometimes just what you need.

Her and I both really enjoy and respect our friendship (and that of our boys) and while we briefly discussed the possibility of a play date of the three of us we both decided that it is just that....a possibility. Why screw up a good thing? On the other hand, if our friendship takes a turn in that direction down the road it will (or will not) happen of its own accord.
