Default Swinging and nudism interests collide

Caliente is handed a task list
    - St Pete Times

Seems some of the property owners don't care for Caliente reaching out to the swinging community.

If a family bought property with the understanding that is was "family friendly" nudist community, I can understand why they'd be a little upset if all of a sudden it was being marketed to and adult oriented convention like Swingfest.

One isn't better/worse than the other, it's just an apples and oranges situation. I certainly wouldn't want to take my kids to a place like!

It's a bad job by the Caliente management in my opinion.

Wow, that's a big change from when we were there in 2006. Swingers stayed hush-hush when we were there.

I wonder why the owners changed their focus?

For those of you who haven't been, there are many permanent homes there and children. I have to take the side of the homeowners on this one.

There are plenty of nudist resorts that are adult only... ones that allow children SHOULD NOT cross over into the swinging realm (whether quietly or not).

    I have to agree.

That's one hell of a curve ball to throw at someone who has made a huge investment in a place to live.

I agree 100%. Not that swinging doesn't happen in even the family resorts, it must fly well below the radar. The nudist resort we first went to was where we got our first real push into swinging by getting offers from other couples. We got them though, well out of sight and hearing of any children, and all activities are held inside private dwelling or outside the resort. For the public areas though any too friendly contact is frowned upon greatly.

Have been to Caliente 4 times. Met some great couples. They had a weekly (Sunday) dinner party for the swingers. But the swinging went on under the radar.

Glad we didn't buy property there like we were thinking! It'd be worthless now.

But, on the other hand, you can pick up some property there real cheap, I expect. So there is a silver lining.

We have friends who own property there and their opinion is that when this blows over nothing will have changed.

During the half-dozen trips we've taken to Caliente we've wondered how much swinging goes on "under the radar". Based on the fact that most of the women float around in the pool and manage to never mess-up their make-up and hair and that no one under 18 is allowed in the club house after 9:00 pm told us what we wanted to know.

We have been over there for one Aahz Party and had a great time. A bit pricey but a great deal of fun. And let's face it, Aahz is for swingers. I imagine the enormous amount of money that swingers, as a community, spent in one weekend helped the management make the decision to open up to the swing community. As far as we know, there have been no "incidents" to speak of.

One member commented that the way the pricing structure is arranged allows people to use the facility at a greatly reduced rate compared to a yearly membership. The non-AANR fees, daily use fees, room charges and the cost of food and drinks can get pricey in a hurry and they felt that the management had over done it when they reduced the rates to attract people to their establishment.

I imagine that once an equilibrium is reached between the swingers (many) and nudists (few) this will be forgotten. And remember, as we checked-in on our first visit, we were told that overt sexual acts were not permitted in the pool/clubhouse area. I always took that to mean that what you do is okay, so long as it's kept "under the radar".

    OK, now it's getting weird.

Anti-Swinging Blog Poses as Church Website.

Looks like a blogger opposed to the Caliente move has tried to appear to be part of a local church.
Bonus: Church is really pissed off by this move, and seeks help from the police in tracking down the blogger.

A first hand report from Caliente tells me that they have not suffered at all from withdrawing from AANR. On the contrary, the fun, good times, and membership have increased since they have stopped pretending to be a "family" resort and are admitting their resort is for adults that want to have adult fun.

I don't entirely agree with you on this point....I truly believe that AANR is nothing but a paper tiger....they exert little or no control over their members and if someone complains about anything they give the standard line "that is up to the individual club owners do decide"

My comment had nothing to do with AANR or their benefits or shortcomings. It was about Caliente's increase in popularity since dropping their "family" status and going for the gusto.

I personally believe that AANR is a strong influence in the nudist community but agree that problems show up when the line between swinging and nudism is blurred.

    Bumping this topic back up.

Several years ago, the nude resort mentioned in the thread was in the limelight for hosting LS-themed activities, a transition that led to conflict between the nude and LS communities. The conversation seems to have faded away and the communities--nudist and lifestyle--seem to have found a way to co-exist there.

Recently, a nude resort closer to home seems to be undergoing a similar transition/transformation.

For those who are part of both the nudist and the LS communities, have you observed an more LS people and activities at your local club/beach/resort?

For those in the LS who do not attend a nude resort, beach or club, what do you think of the covergence of the two lifestyles in a single location? Bad idea, no interest or curious to see how all this will play out?

At White Thorn (Western Pennsylvania), kanoodling of any kind within sighting distance of certain members will get you tossed out. Any swingery that goes on must happen behind closed doors. Any talk of it is best whispered. No suggestions are being made for reaching out to swingers.

I'd say no to the first question. The few resorts I have been to do not allow any kind of open sexual activities. If anything, it's a place to meet fellow swingers for shenanigans later. We went to Harbin Hot Springs up in northern California once (it was destroyed in a wildfire last year), and we met other couples in the common areas but any sex was done behind closed doors. Same with a clothing-optional coed spa that I go to regularly. I've chatted with people who are swingers but people are strictly there for the spa.

As for the second part, I think it may be a bad idea because many nude beaches and resorts are family friendly. I think it's important to have a place where nudism can play out without any sexual connotation.

To me, nudist resorts are "gated communities" more for legal (indecent exposure) than practical reasons. Unless there is anti-swinger verbiage in the purchase contract or deed restrictions, I don't think any property owners hold the power to make others conform.

However, I think that families with children have a right to privacy from adult play.

Nudist resorts have played the prudishness (and religion) card far too long, with AANR acting as the political wing to force everyone to conform. I think, today, we would almost always choose a non-AANR affiliated resort over one retaining membership.

Anyway, I think allowing nudism and swinging to coexist, while allowing the same privacy one would expect outside the gates, is the best course. At least, it is the least hypocritical.

    Harbin Hot Springs is rebuilding:

Reopening & Rebuilding News | Harbin Hot Springs

(we've never been there but now that we know it's there, we'll have to try and go once they reopen)

The nudest resort closer to home (Laguna Del Sol) frowns on public displays most of the time, but on Saturday night they have a themed party in the club house that is adults only. Later at night, we have heard rumor that the far side of the lake pagan rituals can and do take place. It is possible for both groups to get along...

We have visited the Sunnyrest nudist resort near Allentown, PA. We were told by couples we met there that the population are about 3/4 lifestyle people! However, because there are families with children there, people keep things platonic in the common areas. They reserve their flirty activity for the adults-only parts of the program (e.g., in the disco, which doesn't allow children), and reserve actual sexual activity for the privacy of the tent/camper/RV/room!

Hmmmmmm.... OK, does the fact that a resort has an "adults only" area tell us anything? In NC, I only know of one resort that has such a venue and they are very swinger friendly.

Other venues run from clandestine swinger friendly to don't even think about it.....

The resort we frequent the most--because it is closest--is an old school mom and pop place. They don't allow swinging at all.

They've told us that AANR is looking the other way when resorts embrace swingers. The reason? $$$

It amazes me that after nine years, that Tampa Bay Times link to the story continues to be usable.
