ED Meds, what are they supposed to do?

Seems like a stupid question. Please, let me explain. While I don't have any issues with "rising for the occasion", I did get a prescription for 20mg tablets of the generic Viagra. Reason for this was to see if it would help me stay hard after the first round. I'm not 22 anymore and it can take awhile to be ready for the second round.

 

 

A few nights ago, my wife and I set up a intimate evening, I took one pill and about a hour later we started to enjoy the evening. While it did seem that I was a little harder than normal, after I was done, I lost the erection. It was about 45 minutes from beginning of foreplay until finishing. I have found that even though I don't walk around with an erection when not sexually stimulated after taking viagra, my non-erect penis is larger for a few hours and feels very nice.
