I've never used them. I've heard they make anal sex and fisting easier because they relax sphincter muscles. I've also heard they can be addicting, more in a psychological sense than a physical sense. They can also cause vision problems.

From the 2 minutes I spent searching it, I didn't find much that is terrifying, other than the potential to go blind during any kind of use and potential death or get severe illness if you accidentally ingest instead of inhale. Poppers are illegal in the US, although the same chemicals can be used in everyday products that aren't formulated to be introduced to the human body (cleaners, air fresheners, nail polish removers, etc).

 

It's not a toy, though, it's a drug. I would put this under the same category as any other drug (minus alcohol since it's production is more controlled) which means it is a 100% no go for me and would cause me to stop any play or possible play with someone who was going to be using it.

Poppers, that sounded familiar so I had to look it up. Well just take me back to the days of platform shoes and leisure suits, poppers are Amyl Nitrite, what we used to call Rush. Back in my Disco days, yes I am that old, Rush was everywhere. It wasn't illegal per say, it was actually sold as automobile carpet freshener. You would see people on the dance floor taking a whiff of it all the time. I never did try it myself, hell believe or not I have never done any drugs of any type. My understanding is that they're often used to make anal penetration easier/more pleasurable because they relax the muscles and dilate blood vessels. It's a short term effect and is not addicting, but some people do seem to use them habitually.
