mrmrsjiggly 111 Posted January 5, 2014 I find it very interesting the number of people who use the term height weight proportional. I have seen is used many times. "We are HWP and seeking the same". My assumption is they are not interested in overweight people but what about extremely skinny. Quote Share this post Link to post
ref2018 29 Posted January 5, 2014 Height/Weight Proportional. There is a thing at the top of the site that says "Swinger Info". Click on that, and the FAQ, and there is a lot of basic stuff, including but not limited to a Glossary, that will bring you up to speed on vocabulary, etiquette, and site usage. You can also enter acronyms into Google and it usually brings up at least one or two Urban Dictionary-type pages that have the answers you seek. (and it seems that this site is programmed to hot-link certain words automatically. I didn't put those URLs in on purpose.) Quote Share this post Link to post
two4youinswva 3,068 Posted January 5, 2014 The glossary is useful, but I believe the OP already understands what the definition is, since they used it in their message. HWP is one of "those terms" that can mean different things to different people. I believe we've had several discussions on the HWP topic around here over the years, and never have, or will, reach a consensus. Quote Share this post Link to post

Right; I figured it might come in handy for future reference. So, "HWP" is really euphemism for "no fat people"? Quote Share this post Link to post
mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted January 6, 2014 So, "HWP" is really euphemism for "no fat people"? There's a recent thread that debates that exact point, but I think most reasonable people would agree that it really is a euphemism for no fat people. For some reason, OP, I suspect people who are looking for the HWP amongst us would be willing to accept the skinny. But that's just a guess. Quote Share this post Link to post
mrmrsjiggly 111 Posted January 6, 2014 We find it funny. We are both what we call fluffy. We are by no means skinny, shes 5'6 and a size 12 and I'm 6'2 and wear a size 42 pants and we can buy our clothes off the rack and any department store. I'm grateful when I see it in a profile as it a really good indicator for us there will be no attraction to them. The point is what is HWP or fat? Its really subjective and I think using it in a profile says more about the writer than what their looking for. Quote Share this post Link to post
intuition897 2,177 Posted January 6, 2014 Although I'm no longer in the HWP club, I considered myself to be HWP at 5'7" / 155-160 lbs. For me, that was about a size 12. I always thought HWP was just a relative term that describes an "average" figure, neither over nor underweight. I've never had what you would call an athletic build. When we put HWP on our profiles, it just meant we weren't obsessed with our own weight or with others'. All we wanted was to let people know generally what we looked like - to not expect Barbie or Ken - and that our preferences had some flexibility. I will say, however, that we have not been particularly attracted to people whose weight was at either extreme. It's pretty rare for anyone who is either extremely thin or extremely overweight to be completely balanced or comfortable with themselves, qualities which we consider very important to feel attracted to others. Mochacino 188 Posted January 6, 2014 It's pretty rare for anyone who is either extremely thin or extremely overweight to be completely balanced or comfortable with themselves, qualities which we consider very important to feel attracted to others. I respectfully disagree with this. I know wonderfully people on both ends that have wonderful self esteem, are very comfortable with their bodies and how they look and are more well "balanced" than those who fall into "normal" body types. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,711 Posted January 6, 2014 Just to add another answer to a question that has no answer, when we see HWP we generally assume it is referring to the heavier end of the spectrum. But, for me personally, it could just as easily apply to the extremely skinny since I don't find that particularly attractive. I define it pretty simply - if you present yourself as healthy and happy, then you are HWP in my book, I don't need to put an exact number on it on either end of the range. MrsPandMe 150 Posted January 6, 2014 It just seems to me that it's a term that is exclusionary in general. We've also met couples in gatherings who we had seen previously on SLS with a "HWP" disclaimer on their profile. They had a fantastic time with us, and I would not categorize either of us as "ideal" weight. Quote Share this post Link to post
TaP4u2 15 Posted January 6, 2014 There is nothing wrong with having a preference for a specific body type and not being attracted to others.. for example those with excess weight. There is no exact description or number that can be given since a person can be 5ft or 6ft and possibly have a more muscular build. What is the proper way to say "Hey we are attracted to those without excess fat?" .. HWP seems to be the most accurate and least offensive way to say it... What would be a better way to say it? Chicup 38 Posted January 6, 2014 I can count the number of "extremely thin swingers" we've met on one hand, if that had had no digits, as in we haven't. I'm sure there are anorexic swingers out there somewhere, but not that we have run into in 10+ years of doing this. So it just means "not fat" and "fat" will be relative to the person observing. My feeling for most is that its a wiggle room of +20-40 from ideal weight, depending on height (20 lbs on a 5'1" person is not 20 on a 6'4" person). Quote Share this post Link to post

Sorry, just had my physical recently so the acronym stuck in my head. Probably more accurate, but not sure if it's offensive. Can't say I have seen it used in a profile though. But imagine the possibilities: "We are attracted to those with BMI in the range of 20-22." Quote Share this post Link to post

confused12524 201 Posted January 12, 2014 I always interpreted it as "average". Then again like average, I guess it means different things to different people. Technically on "average" most Americans are overweight. So average could accurately describe someone most would say overweight. Or if you're 5ft tall and 5ft wide? That's hwp I guess. I'm 5'7 145. 31 waist. But "soft" not gym defined. I've been called too fat and too skinny a number of times. I use "average" and "hwp" average seems the safest. Though I've been flamed for using it. mrmrsjiggly 111 Posted January 12, 2014 There sure are a lot of differing opinions on the subject. I appreciate the fact that some people suggest its a way to communicate who they are as well as hat they are looking for. I think in the future I will not scrutinize the typical buzz words like" HWP" and "Ken and Barbie" so much. Quote Share this post Link to post
intuition897 2,177 Posted January 18, 2014 I respectfully disagree with this. I know wonderfully people on both ends that have wonderful self esteem, are very comfortable with their bodies and how they look and are more well "balanced" than those who fall into "normal" body types. My apologies. I did not mean to offend at all. It sounds like you're lucky enough to know a good crowd. I was generalizing, I know. Unfortunately, I count myself among those in the 'unbalanced' category. One of the reasons we haven't gotten back into swinging is because Mr. intuition897 and I are not entirely comfortable with ourselves at our current weight. I am not at my ideal weight and that has a negative psychological effect to the point where I would be a total drag at any swingers gathering. I KNOW this about myself, and I'm not about to drag my sad ass around, killing the fun for everyone else. My comment was not really about being discriminatory; it was about being attracted to someone based on whether or not they were comfortable in their own skin. Generally speaking, we've noticed that most people on either polar end of the weight spectrum are unhappy being where they are. Their weight, then, is more of a symptom of a problem, as opposed to being the problem itself. But there are those who are very comfortable with themselves at a weight that, for most, would be considered to much or too little, which I think is great! Quote Share this post Link to post
