DanLizard 19 Posted October 25, 2016 I responded to an ad on CL for a local free club. Do clubs actually advertise on CL or is this most likely bogus.. like all the other ads on there. Quote Share this post Link to post
two4youinswva 3,068 Posted October 25, 2016 I would say it's quite possible that a club would advertise on CL. Now, the part that throws a flag for me is "Free club". 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
DanLizard 19 Posted October 25, 2016 Yeah they say there are no membership fees or dues of any kind. That it is a private residence. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kikonkrome 843 Posted October 25, 2016 If it seems sketchy it probably is. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,711 Posted October 26, 2016 I would say proceed with extreme caution. There are plenty of swinger events out there that have a history and are legit, I would focus on those before I would someone who decided that posting something on CL about a party at their house was a great way to score. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
SW_PA_Couple 4,019 Posted October 26, 2016 . . . Do clubs actually advertise on CL . . . Nope. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
GuyInMD79 1,500 Posted October 26, 2016 Yeah they say there are no membership fees or dues of any kind. That it is a private residence. This sends alarm bells ringing in my head! The "free club" thing sounds fishy. Sounds more like a big house party than a club, at best. Also, CL plus "private residence" equals danger! If you find ads for this "free club" on a reputable swinger site, that might seem more legitimate. Quote Share this post Link to post
DanLizard 19 Posted October 26, 2016 I've Googled the name of the club with no hits. The ad said to contact the club "secretary" which would lead me to believe it has some sort of "organization" and thus would have some kind of website. I'm going to pass on this and just wait til the February hotel takeover that I know is legit. Thanks for the feedback 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,711 Posted October 26, 2016 Good decision in my opinion. Just a guess, but enough private "just asking for voluntary donations from our personal friends to help cover party expenses so totally not a business even though we have website with prices listed" house parties have run afoul of local codes and ended up in trouble with the website being the thing that did them in, not too surprising. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Formybubu 53 Posted October 29, 2016 Many new Clubs do advertise CL. It take money to run a club and they will try to keep the costs down where they can in the beginning. Here in Vegas many out of town Swing groups host parties here so they are on CL. So if you feel that it is legit take a chance and go. If you feel uncomfortable about going than stay away. econobiker 164 Posted November 8, 2016 There are a couple of legit, fully operating hotel take-over based clubs that occasionally advertise on my local area CL. These will direct you to their website once you email them. Then there are a couple of larger house parties that a local "promoter" (who is well known locally as a grade-A noodle-head who mooches on other peoples parties) upsells as being under the umbrella of his "club". And then there are the random couples trying to get a regular meet up with other people going who want to start a "swinging club"... Without a web presence or linkage on SLS, or other swing websites, I would be wary of the group or person advertising on craigslist... 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
