JustAskJulie 2,589 Posted July 11, 2012 Once a year or so we re-hash the argument of "what is a swinger?" It's always kind of enjoyable for me to see what people's thoughts are. I was thinking about mine and decided to create a Venn diagram to express my views of how I define "swinger". It's not complete, and I welcome your additions, suggestions, complaints, etc. It's hard to think of every single type of swinger in one brief period of time. Quote Share this post Link to post
a_d_xxx 663 Posted July 11, 2012 I've always liked this one: http://www.obsidianfields.com/lj/nonmonogamy2.5.1.gif Quote Share this post Link to post
JustAskJulie 2,589 Posted July 11, 2012 I was going more for the "if it's not in a circle, it's definitely not swinging" idea. Holy crap that thing is complicated. Quote Share this post Link to post
cplnuswing 4,711 Posted July 11, 2012 That's freakin' awesome, love it. Lots of labels there, I think we are starting to narrow it down, but it still needs some work Quote Share this post Link to post
km34 672 Posted July 12, 2012 The Veaux diagram has given me a headache every single time I've ever tried to really examine it. It made me laugh the first time I saw it a few months ago (some of the example quotes are funny, some borderline offensive, some just plain right), but I think there is something to be said for simplicity. mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted July 12, 2012 That's the first time I've seen it in color; it's much easier to read this way. And now I can see that Con party room sex fits comfortably in the Swinging category, so my partner can actually call himself an experienced swinger after all. But...I still don't know what swingers actually do. Quote Share this post Link to post

mauijanedoe 1,414 Posted July 12, 2012 What is con party room sex? A Con is a place where nerds gather. It can be a Star Trek Con, a gamer Con, Comicon, whatever. Sex happens at cons, for some reason, maybe because there's a sizable crossover with the poly/nonmonogamous crowd. And sometimes there are party rooms where people - some dressed in costumes - get their freak on. Quote Share this post Link to post

We have a lot of of friends who frequent Cons, some of which are very openly fetish, swinger, poly of some level and most of which are very not openly anything other than geek (but I always wonder about them, just because of how much they love their Cons). Chicup 38 Posted July 12, 2012 The con group tends to be socially awkward but highly intelligent nerds. This is actually a pretty solid group for non-conventional sexual relationships. The only issue is the male to female ratio is rather bad for a man And you are right Julie I think your diagram is off but I can't read it very well at that resolution, bump it up so I can correct it?
