There will be no more inflatable beds.

Recommended Posts

I make a trip to the Goodwill Industries collection center yesterday. They accepted the two inflatable mattresses that we had been using at our private house parties. They were troublesome. Trying to screw on them was like riding a bucking bronco. I tried my best and but they would nonetheless develop leaks. From now on, real beds having real mattresses.

Does this mean that you no longer have parties or that you have moved to a house with more bedrooms? :)

Inflatable beds are ridiculous to screw on. I hope you have room to store all those extra real mattresses!

Futons!! I did something similar with our camping stuff and now we use mats for camping.

I always thought Futons would be our next step, but thought they would be perfect for parties and they store easy!!

Hey. Futons! That's a great idea. Can be sitting-room furniture during the day and horizontal mambo furniture at a moment's notice.

I guess Mr. Sun and I are spoiled...futons don't work for us either. You can always feel the bars or metal underneath--hard on the knees and back.

Thinking back on it, don't think I've ever had sex on an inflatable...I'll take everyone's word for it though and leave that one off my bucket list.

I have had sex on a futon, and while it will do in a pinch, those bars are uncomfortable. I figured out a solution for that on the one we had for a while though. Get a piece of lauan board or other thin plywood. Cut two pieces, one to go on the seat, and one on the back portion. Make them a little smaller than the cushions so they don't show from the front, and then just drill a few holes in it and zip tie it to the bars so it stays in place. Gets rid of feeling those bars in the crack of your ass.

Only other option I could think of would be a Murphy bed. Kinda pricey, but hey, what's more important than comfortable sex? :)

For Christmas/anniversary we bought the Liberator ramp/wedge combo for my wife and I wanted the queen sized mat. The mat we use in the living room when the other couple goes into the bedroom. It works really well. It's not crazy thick but enough to pad the knees. We fold it in half and slid it under the bed in our room when not in use.

Oh you have a better thought!! We used to just use the futon on the floor, no slats to worry about. Then just put the 'pad' part underneath another piece of furniture, etc.

Cpluswing has a good idea to support the regular quality futon mattress on a standard quality frame. The typically retailed futon in the US has a very poor thin mattress filled with rag fill.

Our futon: I purchased a very thick (about 10" thick) and heavy virgin cotton and foam layered futon mattress for about $250 from a futon store in Atlanta Georgia around 1992. I built the first frame then and discarded that frame around 2001. Used the mattress on the floor until about 2008 when we got one of the cheap metal frames for free. Two moves, six years and after storage in a barn that frame was beat, so Red found a Martha Stewart Living wood and metal frame for $20 to put under the mattress now. The mattress has always been covered with at least one cloth cover, more recently with two cloth covers with a vinyl cover between them when we had a relative with a small dog living with us for several months. This futon has taken some rough mating on it and continues to be serviceable.

Hmm... futons. I'm recalling the battered & suspect specimen that haunted the closets of the Marine Corps Reserve Center Joliet Ill. It seems the Sgts of the Inspector Instructor Staff, all full time regular Marines often entertained their bar room pickups late night in the reserve center back offices. I'll pass lightly over why that was preferable to other venues.

Eventually after many years of service to Corps and Country the venerable futon was retired.

Hmmm. A possible disadvantage of a futon was come into my mind. What happens if I entertain a woman who is a profound squirter? Is a futon washable?

Cover futon with zip up vinyl cover then cover that with a zip up futon cover. Orjust a cheap vinyl matress top cover and then fitted sheet. It's worked for our house parties some of which I was the recipiant of the squirting lady's spray!
