First off, Welcome to the Swingers Board! Great to have you as a member

Key parties are one of those things I am sure happened one time or another, but I think they are a little bit more popular in (sub)urban legend and lore than they are in reality. Now swinging house parties on the other hand, you won't have to go far to find those Your typical house party though, people will be choosing their playmates on what kind of attraction and chemistry they share, not what set of keys they happened to grab hold of.
Not all those who wander are lost

    Welcome to the board!

    Yep, what cplnuswing said.

Swingers are pretty outgoing sexually (obviously), but I don't know of too many that are adventurous enough to say "I'll take my chances and grab a set of keys from a jar". I wouldn't want to end up with someone I wasn't attracted to, and I'd also hate for the person I matched up with to feel like they got the short end of the stick (so to speak) as well.

Nah, a regular house party where hookups happen organically are what we like best.

But, key parties do make a better story, don't they?
I don't have time for dinner. Someone on the internet is wrong!

Key parties were quite common (in the LS scene) in the late 60's and the 70's in my country. They are no urban legend, at least in my corner of the world. However, when these parties went commercial in the 80s and the first Swinger Clubs emerged, it seems the key parties were gone.

Once upon a time in a land not so far away there were Key Parties.
I won't say they were everywhere and every weekend but they did happen.
Yes, 60's & 70's when swinging was about sex.
I have not seen anyone host one in 35 years though.

We haven't come across an actual key party but we have talked to another couple a few times about doing a modified version of it in terms of "speed dating for swingers" where each person has 5-10 minutes to talk to their "key" partner and if they are attracted to each other, they can spend some time making out until the timer goes off. We haven't made it happen yet though.
We've all got "junk", mine just happens to be in the trunk. Actually, it's everywhere except for the headlights!

    First, WELCOME to Swingersboard.

You might need a time machine to be able to attend a key party. But private house parties are a current-day reality. Getting an invitation means going out to see and be seen. You will eventually run into people who host such parties. Are you getting out to meet swingers?

We have never heard of an actual key party since we started swinging a little more than 5 years ago. However, a few friends and I have fantasized about putting one together. The problem is it's really difficult even with a close group of friends to get together a group where everyone would be willing to play with whoever they picked. The other issue is many people only play together, so that wouldn't work out either.

We did a Low Key key party on a cruise recently. It went by couple. Each couple chose a slip of paper with the name of a bar on the ship. They went to the location and met another couple. The idea was you could just have a drink, or you could go play. It actually didn't work out for any of the couples to play. If the choices had been different some people definitely would have played, but it was the luck of the draw.

We play mostly with a regular group of six couples. We take turns hosting a house party for the whole group once a month and play in smaller combinations at other times. At the house parties we have had a variation of a key party. At the end of the party when we have had a couple of rounds of playing the men throw their keys on the table and the gals pick a key each. The gals then go home with their guy and spend the night with him. Of course the gals do not pick their husbands key!

There probably haven't been any real "Key Parties" since the mid-1950's..... Now, expect Meet & Greets and Play Parties.

The modern day version of the key party is a house party where a close knit group of 8 to 10 couples get together for drinks and dinner in the house of the host couple. After a few drinks and conversation couples may play with another couple's spouse and swap partners for sex. Sexually charged games may be involved to get the party going. The old style "key parties" of legend where you may be paired with another wife/hubby at random by picking up keys are most likely extinct.

Just a funny about key parties...

I was sitting at my mothers kitchen table with various siblings sitting around with me.

My older brother looked at me and asked me if I knew some couples from up around where we used to live several years ago. Well, obviously I did know them.

He proceeds to tell me that they have key parties every once in a while. My mother, without missing a beat and obviously missing her hearing aids says, "What? You're having a party?" "Ummm, not me mom, but I think (Name of my brother) is!"... She turns to look at him, with a grin on her face and expecting her invite...

Without being too obvious, I wanted to ask him how he knows about these key parties and how often they have them. But he's staring me down, a look that says, "Of course you know them -- you're one of them!!" But, he just laughed. Yes, they do still have key parties in our neck of the woods. It still does happen. Kinda funny, isn't it?

Dave and I laughed ourselves silly while driving home.

    Mi familia es loco.

Back in 1978 I participated in one. There were only three couples & two of us had swapped several times before. We'd heard of key parties & the married couple (the other pairs were not married) remarked they had been to one. So we tried it. I think it worked well because the four of us were so well acquainted & the other couple were too new to know any better. Being young and hopelessly horny helped.

I was just talking to the Mr about this yesterday. I think if you got the couoles that you usually meet up with at the swinger parties..it may work.

We went to a nudist resort last summer to meet a couple we had been corresponding with, and really wanted to meet. We met them there, and over the course of the afternoon met two other couples who were friends with our friends. All of these couples are in the lifestyle. Well, all eight of us seemed to be hitting it off very nicely, so we decided to have some fun in one of the couple's room. We put all of the women's names in a hat, and each guy picked a name at random to play with. We all had a great time! Closest thing to a key party that we've ever done, as well as an amazing, eight-way "click"!

Wow! I'd say that key parties are alive and well in Maryland.

First heard of "key parties" from that 70's show.

As for "not having to go far to find a house party", we live in the middle of nowhere... 3/4 of a mile away, big swinger mansion with hosted house parties. LOL.

*note- never attended our neighbors parties, just find it ironic, they live so close.

Even more difficult to do today with all of those newfangled key pads on doors. Gets so confusing....keep pushing 69 69 69 69 on the keypad ....still can't get indoors....damn!

Just watched Ice Storm for the first time last night. What a boring, terrible movie. How the hell did I ever live through the 70s?
