Haven't been there but that's because whenever we go to Cancun, we stay at Desires Riviera Maya. It really depends on what you are looking for. Since you are new, and just 'found this forum by chance' we can't tell if you are swingers or want to be swingers or nudists or what. Either way, Secrets is an adults only resort, but if you don't want to have to wear clothing (or just want to watch others not wear clothing), then you need to look elsewhere: Desires, Desires Pearl (but nudity isn't allowed on the beach so we wonder why bother), Hidden Beach, or Temptations (they allow single men which we don't appreciate). We really like Desires...everything we want in a resort and swinging is allowed (but not required). We've also heard that Hidden Beach is VERY nice, although we haven't been there yet. In our opinion then there are only two choices: Desires Riveria Maya and Hidden Beach.

While Secrets is adults only, I don't believe that they allow any nudity there. Probably fun, but in our opinion being and seeing others nude is more fun (or last visit we spent half a day watching the female half of a couple get the nerve up to take off her top...very entertaining). Also, next door to Desires, they are apparently building another Secrets (or so we were told). You can always wait until that one is open and then have the best of both worlds (just buy the day pass to Desires). Hope that helped some...

We're making our first trip to Secrets in a few weeks. We have no swinging expectations. I'll drop a note with my 'review' of the place when we get back. I am SO looking forward to not having to compete with 11 year olds for space. Cancun was in need of more adult only resorts. We wanted adult only, but not a sex resort. Very few to choose from and very expensive which seems odd. The expense put out by these resorts to cater to kids is overwhelming.

We'd be interested in hearing what you have to say as well. With a Secrets opening up next to Desires, it will either make the place a lot better (or a lot worse).

Thanks for taking the time to reply...I would not call ourselves swingers. Over the past couple of years, we have been in drunk mutual "make out" and clothes on groping sessions in the living room with another close couple. My wife has also done this with another male friend while watched. I actually initiated and really enjoyed it. I guess this is considered soft swapping. My wife and have talked a lot about swinging because of this and we agree we'd like to slowly try it out. We are both 40 have kids and work in the community. Thinking in another country may be best for our first time.

We are also heading to Maroma in three weeks. Not going to be disappointed if we don't but may be willing if the situation is right. Do they sell day passes to Desires? Map shows 22 miles...

First of all, soft swap IS swinging so welcome to the club (with your past experience and your interest in possibly doing more you especially qualify). I believe that they do sell day passes...I know that they sell day passes to Desires Pearl (in town) so I'm almost sure that they do. I wasn't sure if you were swingers in my first answer so I tried to keep it general. Just because you are at Desires doesn't mean you are a swinger or interested in swinging. It is a nudist resort that swingers also visit.

Secrets may be adult only, they don't have nudity and unless you get really lucky, not many (if any) swingers. If you are interested in the possibility in swinging, try Desires. Most people visiting there will give everyone else space and the assumption is that you are just a nudist...unless you are at the rooftop hot tub. Even during the day, that should come with a strict warning label.

Desires was actually our first choice...couldn't figure out how to tell others that's where we were going. While I'd be willing to go a little further with swapping (clothes off), my wife would probably do a little more. We can't figure out where to even begin and be discreet. Not big into a club scene.

Guess I'll call desires and find out about a day pass.

In this cell phone world, you don’t need to tell people where you are going; they just call and you are there; contact your carrier to make sure you have coverage. We just say Cancun or pick the hotel next door if you have to give a name. We have been to Desires five times. It’s wonderful. But note, only played (beyond soft) with other couples on 3 of those visits. There’s no requirement that you do. Maybe 20% of their guests seem to be just nudists.

We've been to Desire Riviera Maya twice. We've also talked to many people who've visited Desire Pearl, and we have taken a walk around that resort, before and after a half-day naked boat trip the left out of Pearl. Both are very nice resorts, with good food, excellent service, and a beautiful setting! And both are clothing-optional (BTW, I am surprised to hear it if the beach at Desire Pearl is not clothing-optional. Certainly the beach at Desire Riviera Maya is clothing-optional- I spent many happy, naked hours on it!). The Desire resorts are for couples only- no kids, and no singles allowed. Also, it is my understanding that they do not, in fact, allow people from outside to visit the resorts on day passes (if you're at one of the Desire resorts, you can buy a day pass to visit the other one, however). This "no day pass" rule was one reason why we chose our first lifestyle vacation at Desire rather than Hedonsim, where day passes (and single people) are allowed.

While Desire is, in addition to being clothing-optional, a "lifestyle friendly" resort, it is by no means only for swingers. We met many people who were there only for a nudist vacation experience, with a sexy twist. If you stay there, you might be asked by some of the other guests whether you're in the lifestyle- but if you say that you're not interested in playing with anybody else, people will be respectful and not press the issue. One thing that you can do at Desire, if you're looking for a sexy-yet-monogamous experience, is to have sex with your spouse on one of the open beds near the huge hot tub, or in the Sin Room, where there are many beds with no barriers in between.

If you're looking for a smaller step into sexy excitement, but more than a clothing-required adults-only resort, then may I suggest Temptations Cancun? I have not been there myself, but I think it allows topless sunbathing.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck and have fun!

First off it is Desire not Desires. I am almost 100% Certain they don't sell day passes. You have to spend the night there. I would highly recommend it even if you are not in the lifestyle. It is awesome. We will be there in 14 days!!

The beach at Pearl is next to the marina and several other resorts (since Pearl is 'in town') so they don't allow nudity on the beach, but I do believe it is allowed at the pool.

Last year when we were at Desire, we were there over Mexican Independence day and there were WAY more people there than were staying and I'm sure that we were told by some that they had bought a day pass. I do know that we were told that if we wanted to visit Pearl, other than having to arrange for transportation (they used to have a shuttle service), there was a day pass fee that we would have to pay...I want to say it was $50 (but if we went to the time share presentation that fee would be waived). Now that a HUGE new (Secrets so I was told) resort is being built next door, I did notice more shirts that said 'security' on them and they will need to do something to stop visitors from dropping by.

Found it on the Desire website under FAQ:

Desire is a clothing optional resort for couples only that grants you an intimate holiday, but if you are already staying in one of our Desire Resorts, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a Day Pass at either Desire Riviera Maya or Desire Pearl at your convenience for $ 150 USD per couple. - See more at: Desire Resorts

We thank you for the thoughts. No day passes...looks like we'll have to find our first real experience closer to home. Probably ask for advice on that too. Don't know how parents pull it off. We will still be in Mexico in about 2 1/2 weeks loving life.

Our trip is finally here. Trading white snow for white sand is feeling very welcome. I went over our trip and learned that we are staying at Secret's Capri, which is about 15 miles from Secrets Maroma. We will be staying at Maroma for a half day to go thru a time share presentation. I'll drop a note next week with our experience with the place.

Our visit to Secret's Maroma was a let down. I asked the sales lady if we could walk the grounds and check the place out. She agreed and said that was what we were going to do. Actually, the 'tour' was a short walk from the sales office to a model room and back. It looks really nice, if not empty. I only saw a handful of guests in the place. If you enjoy snorkeling or diving it looks like it would be great. They have a massive reef.

The sales presentation was as intense as a timeshare presentation. They say it isn't a time share but it's just a slight variation, and not better. I had to battle 3 sales people, each with more pressure and all trying to use your words against you. ug!

Capri is a tiny resort which relies on service to make up for all the short comings of the resort, which were many. The good points were that there were no kids to trip over. The food was excellent in the main restaurants, meh at the buffet. The furnishings were beautiful, great artwork all over the place.

I will assume that policy from resorts owned by Secret's are consistent. I should note, and this is probably not the case at Maroma, the restaurants were too small. There was not one meal that did not require a 40 minute wait. This is policy and is designed to force you to go to the buffet if you had after dinner plans. The pool was ice cold, the Jacuzzi was also very cold. The 2 best restaurants were closed 2 of the 4 days we were there due to parties at the pool. They didn't need to be closed for this.

The worst thing, and the reason we won't return to any Secret's was the alcohol. One guy serving the whole beach so you could count on a drink being delivered about every hour. Our first day we sat and drank about 10 Mojitos, before we realized we were not even slightly buzzed, just really full. Btw, we didn't even bother with the 'service' on the beach and just ran our own drinks. The next day I watched them make the drinks which I hadn't done. A shot to them was to dump the bottle upside down, and as soon as the liquid was coming out, they stopped pouring. My guess was each drink had about 1/5 shot. Order a double and you get that twice. Still less than a half shot. SO...to actually drink, with every drink order, a shot on the side had to be ordered and poured into the drink to make it an actual drink. Those policies and the fact that there were parts of the resort in need of repairs made me think there are cash issues.

We would be interested in hearing any stories from Moroma. I hate to talk shit about a resort and then find the one down the road didn't have these problems.

We have been to resorts along this coast 3 other times from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. All were better than Secret's. My suggestion is to pick a different place.

We were the opposite...best week of our life! Couldn't imagine it being any better. Of course we've never been anywhere else.

As far as swinging goes...we felt it out with no luck. Our solution was to get drunk and have sex in the "private" pool off our room where others could see. Not sure if they saw or not. Got naked and tried to talk the room service guy into joining for a hand job on the last night...he wasn't having it though.

We will be back there next year for sure.

Any advice on our next step with swinging?

JandK: Sorry to hear this. That can be the problem with all inclusive resorts, especially if money is an issue. The place that they are building next to Desires Riviera Maya is supposed to be another Secrets. It sure is BIG (counted at least 350-400 rooms). Now we're concerned again as to what may happen to Desire...

Gacouple: If you want swinging, go to a resort that is 'swinger-friendly'...namely either Desire or Desire Pearl. Problem solved!

We have been to El Dorado Maroma Beach Resort south of the Cancun airport several time the past few years. Generally we spend a week at Maroma and then a week at Hidden Beach Resort (owned by the same Karisma Resorts Group.

Rob actually likes El Dorado Maroma the best as it is small and really nice. One sees some topless European style sun bathing at beach and pool lounges but no nudity as such. We've not seen ladies walking about topless either. When leaving the lounges, the ladies all put tops back on. We've seen no signs of swinging at Maroma Beach but have played with each other at night on a beach bed next to beach bed with another couple. In the dim lighting, we watched and were watched with very little spoken between the couples. The next day at the pool and meals the other couple didn't make any attempt to visit or be friendly either.

We will be at Hidden Beach Resort starting Tuesday about noon and will stay a week.

Late last night, we got back from our week long trip to Hidden Beach Resort (a Karisma group hotel) located south of Cancun about an hour and 20 minutes (very slow and safe drivers).

We kept notes of our thoughts and comments for use in a review here or should it all be put in the stories section?

We were at HBR from Tuesday noon to Tuesday afternoon.

I would post the review here but as a separate topic so it will be easier to find in the future for someone looking for the info. Other than that, we can't wait to hear how it was!

We just returned from our stay at Hedonism 2 in Jamaica and the worst part of it was having to leave. I wanted to thank everyone here and those that left reviews elsewhere for your recommendation. We were NOT disappointed. While many people are in different stages of the lifestyle with different interests, I wanted to provide my feedback to help them decide or provide some insight for those just getting started in the lifestyle.

The facility was laid out very well, while they have a nude side and a prude side, either side is perfectly fine to choose and it is a very short walk should you choose to explore. The so called prude side, housing and beach, is the perfect place to spend the morning recovering from the night before or simply hang out in a quiet place for peaceful morning, relaxation and enjoy a more private intimate moment with your spouse or simply open a book to read. Clothing is optional, so do expect to see both nude, partially nude and fully clothed people.

The Nude side, is the perfect place for party time, anything goes to the wildest and most open forms in sexual interaction. The best way to describe the beach is 0 to 10. You can choose to be totally isolated at the very end of the beach where it starts on the border to the next resort and can walk down to the other end  which ends up being a non stop 24/7 party! You can basically walk along (a short easy walk) and choose to stay wherever you like. While being nude is required for this side, you can still expect to see some people with some sort of covering, sheer/lace, hat even a sarong.

      Logistics:
The Food is delicious, all kinds of food available for just about every taste, the staff is also familiar to help you with any food allergies and sensitivities. Don't hesitate to ask should you have some concerns regarding the ingredients, the staff is very friendly and happy to get any questions answered. On one occasion, (Asian Food Night) the chef came out personally went over which dishes contained gluten and pointed out what was safe. I stopped him half way through because there was more than enough to eat. Plates, Silverware, Napkins were all very clean, staff visited the table often to top off drinks and take away any plates.

The Bars were fully stocked, the drinks were properly mixed and no sense of being watered down or weak like we saw at other resorts. If you want an extra strong drink, they were happy to oblige but the standard drink was as you would expect.
While they didn't have bottled water, you are given a reusable container with plenty of fill stations. The refill stations throughout the resort are triple filtered with UV to provide safe clean drinking water. The water was clean, odorless and tasted as you would expect from bottled water.

The pools were clean and open to everyone, most of which are clothing optional with the exception of the one group of pools at the end of the nude side which was nude only. While there are several small pools through the resort, it was no trouble to find one that you can enjoy alone time with your mate. Same would go for hot tubs, plenty to choose from, private and open both nude and clothing optional.
The nude side has a row of pools, semi warm one with a swim up bar, snack bar, wading pool (warm), waterfall that is a fence for a more private cave, large open hot pool, large cold pool and a smaller hot tub which is very warm. All of which are connected and easy to jump from pool to pool.

      Nude Side:
      - Do expect 99% to be Nude
      - Do expect to view open sexual activity, everywhere, on the beach, on the deck, around the pool, in the pool, on the floating dock, in the water, on the sand...... everywhere but inside the restaurants.

      Maintenance:
While some did frown upon one pool or one room being closed as a given time, this is a good thing to be honest. The resort is basically a 24/7 establishment, there has to be a time where they perform maintenance and not every single room can be open 100% of the time. The resort is working hard to keep the property updated and clean, the closing of some rooms and pools should be expected. Nobody wants to go to a 'run down' resort. They are very conscious to maximize up time. For example, when we arrived the "Kamasutra Palace" was closed, we were a little upset at the moment but we saw that it was being repainted, new lighting fixtures being installed, floors being refinished and the whole building inside and outside being pressure washed. The next day, we went to find the other play room, just to find it closed but a sign hanging stating that the Kamasutra Palace was reopened and taking the place of the second play room. The same maintenance was going on there at the time. So there was always a play room open and while closing of any room sucks, it is nice to know they are keeping the buildings maintained and clean.

We saw two pools closed during our stay which was no big deal as there were still many to choose from. I was surprised that they drained one pool, scrubbed, painted, made repairs and was refilled and back in operation within 48 hours. I've seen pools closed for weeks at hotels to make these types of repairs. I saw their crew out there in the dark working until it was reopened.

Rooms: While the rooms were nice they were a little 'dated', wondering if they would be renovated anytime soon..... We then noticed 4 rooms with work crews gutting them for renovation, so do expect to see a new look on the other rooms the future
Our room had one small issue, a drip of condensation from the A/C Unit, before we can even make a report, the maid noticed it and automatically contacted the A/C Repair Folks, they were in there during the daily cleaning and had it fixed in about 20 minutes.

Beaches: The beaches were cleaned daily of leaves and debris but no real trash was ever noticed. The beaches and water were very clean, plenty of towels stocked, plenty of seating and hammocks to relax in. Some of the rooms also had private hot tubs on the deck facing the beach, a few in which we visited, all of which were cleaned and treated daily, good condition and proper working order.

Security: The beach is patrolled with several safety/security officers. None of which were a bother, they would greet you with a smile. I didn't see any of them up close to 'personal activity' but kept their distance. They were very professional and just let people do what they wanted for the most part. If there was some activity that kicked off, I noticed an officer excuse himself from that area and simply moved a little further away to provide privacy. The officers would routinely look in another direction and not take the scenes as a movie for them to watch. The staff was the same way, basically walk by and ignore the activity, no judging, no finger pointing, very very professional.
We did have one interaction, while we met some new friends, one of them required an 'assisted' walk back to her room due to a little intoxication, as she was staying in the room next to us, we offered to walk her back, not due to a security concern but more of a trip and fall consideration. We were approached by security and was kindly asked what was "going on here" we explained and all was well, they did keep an eye to ensure there wasn't something else taking place but allowed us to go on our own and kept a good distance.

      Guests:
The best part of the trip were the people there. We have never met such a great group of people in our entire life. The people were non judging, open, very easy to talk to, happy to converse with anyone. The demographics of the group was better than expected. If you're worried about a certain age group or nationality, let it be known that it is a very diverse group of people. We've met people of all age groups, even a few in their 70's, all sizes, shapes, colors, classes, singles, couples. There is simply something or someone for everyone, no matter your level of participation in the lifestyle, you will not be disappointed. The people were very respectful.

I highly recommend this resort to anyone, even if you're not currently practicing in the lifestyle, it is an experience that you will not forget.
If anyone has any questions, I will do my best to answer.

Hi, We are considering visiting Cherry Lane resort in Michigan. Can we hear some personal experiences? Any chance to have sex in public? (or semi-public area ???)

      Thank you!

Has anyone heard about Cherry Lane nudist resort in Michigan?
We heard there is a lot of swinging activity going on there.

If you have been there, please share your experience or confirm if swinging takes place or not.
We would like to visit this weekend, but want to make sure of what to expect.

Interesting perspective here, a Huffington Post story of a monogamous lesbian goes by herself to a swingers resort. It's a good article, what she describes experiencing will sound very familiar.

      Simple question:

What are the differences between the Desire Riviera Maya PEARL resort and the Desire Riviera Maya Resort?

What do we need to know before choosing?

      THANKS!
