First expirenece and BV!

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

We had a great softswap foursome experience to break us into the lifestyle. Only have one issue..... wife now has BV. Waiting to get tested was a bit emotional as my wife always thinks of the worst case senario. Had the full std testing today and its BV although we wont know for sure if thats all since they send out a few of the specific tests to a different lab.

Now we are talking about the situation we are in and the other couple. It most likely was from them as things were off a bit the day after for her. I had a fairly stong burning sensation during the ride home but nothing further.

So what would others suggest we do? Tell them to get checked? Assume they are not keeping good care of themselves and not play with them again? We can only guess its from them as this is our only experience so far. They certainly dont have any clue whats going on with us as they just contacted us to set up another play date.

My wife has had bacterial vaginitis several times over the past ten years of our meeting people. You are probably like her now taking five or more days of antibiotic pills. Her doctor typically writes a prescription for me too as a precaution.

You should tell your new acquaintances about your discovery and your treatment. No need to point fingers as the bacteria that is involved in BV is normal in a woman's reproductive system and simply blooms and overtakes the other kinds of bacteria also present. No reason to panic. But best that it is treated as it is unpleasant and can make you more susceptible to the stuff that is truely bad.

Thanks for the reply

I think our main issue is that we are placing this in the std category and therefore having a lot of emotions that are really not helpfull.

I would really like to hear what others would do in our situation specifically would you play with them again or have any reservations in doing so?

Reading-up on it may ease your mind a bit. According to the CDC, bacterial vaginosis is the most common vaginal infection in women ages 15 - 44.

Researchers do not know the cause of BV or how some women get it. We do know that the infection typically occurs in sexually active women. BV is linked to an imbalance of “good” and “harmful” bacteria that are normally found in a woman’s vagina. Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners, as well as douching, can upset the balance of bacteria in the vagina. This places a woman at increased risk for getting BV.

We also do not know how sex contributes to BV. There is no research to show that treating a sex partner affects whether or not a woman gets BV. Having BV can increase your chances of getting other STDs.

It's sometimes put in the STI category because it could make a woman more susceptible to other STI's, but it is not an STI in of itself. Although BV can be triggered or aggravated by sexual activity, researchers don't feel it is passed through sexual activity. It appears to just be a natural issue with sexually active woemen and most sexually active women will have it at some point in their life. Monogamous women get it as often as women with multiple partners. So you could of had it forever and coincidentally this is just the first time you've had a problem. It could be triggered by your husband because maybe his sperm was off that day due to alcohol or smoking and that reacted poorly with your natural bacteria. Or too much chlorine in a pool could trigger it. Douching is known to cause it as well as women who smoke are more susceptible to it. It's a bacterial imbalance, not a sexually transmitted infection.

Western Swing, thanks so much for your informative and factual account. People on this website, and you are a good example, are so helpful, kind and well-informed. Plus, they often speak from a position of knowledge or at least experience. I so wish that I could say the same for the stuff you get on the news. The 24-hour news cycle has provided us with a lot of opinion...but don't get me started.
