Hello everyone,

I am curious about the education level of swingers.

What is your education level:

GED

High School Degree

Bachelor's Degree

Master's Degree

Doctorate

Thanks!

Syren

I think the swinger's board is more likely to have a a greater number of formally educated people than the swing community at large. This group is interested in reading, writing, discussing and helping others have the best possible experiences. Many people in the community simply enjoy swinging (nothing wrong with that!) so they won't be here to answer the poll.

In our experience we've met people with all levels of education from MD's and Phd's to HS grads. Most have been great fun regardless!

I have my Bachelor's and started taking classes for my Master's but was disappointed in the program so I'm currently looking for one that meets my expectations. My husband is currently working on his Master's.

I also think the results will be skewed because it's a public poll (others can see the answers). I'm not saying it's a stigma or bad, but many people won't admit if they didn't graduate HS or have a GED...

I updated the poll so that it's not public, also so that that it won't close in a month.

I've been working on a Bachelors for the last 20 years, one day I might get it. He has a Masters.

current poll answers need more options.

I would add

Some college

Associates degree

One partner with college degree and one working on it

How about: "Barely able to spell PhD"? ;)

I have my BA, hubby is missing one class for his and will EVENTUALLY get it finished (as in, I'm pressuring him to get back to school this fall so he can finally go on for the degree that will actually let him attempt his dream job...) - I'll be starting my Master's program next fall, I believe.

Where is the option for Trade certification. It may not be viewed as higher education but it still took 5 years to get.

I would say we are high school graduates, but have been going to college and are close to graduating.

I've got my fancy degree and for a while I used to think that swingers were of above average intelligence and education.

It was really a beautiful little idea I had, being I came to the idea of swinging through literature, and at first idea seemed to be the norm in the couples we met.

Then we joined SLS, and we quickly realized that swingers come from both sides of the bell curve. This got reinforced by SLS chat. I think you will find results on this board will be skewed in any poll, being we have a high lurker percentage and just the self selection of being here.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions, I agree that I should have a some college catergory, a trade catergory and a way for 2 parties to answer.

Please forgive my errors. this was my first try at poll I promise I will do better with my next poll.

Thanks,

Sy

Ah, Syren - don't take it too hard:) It was a fun poll and interesting to see the results. I kinda wish once in awhile there was an educational level category on the swinger sites, but it doesn't take too long to figure someone out. Even the most edumacated folks can come across as real dolts - and vice-versa!

Wait, did we misunderstand?...lol We thought this was asking what is your metaphorical level of swinger's education, not your actual level of education. Doh!!! LMAO Wow..so we sure missed the boat on that one. So our correct answer is...Mr. Cupl has a Bachelor of Arts degree and is furthering his education now. Mrs. Cupl has two Master's degrees, in the real non-metaphorical world.

Hey Cupl4fun,

I like the way you think, I guess we should set up a poll on swinger/lifestyle education/experience. I get the sense that the answers provided would be very interesting!

Or, at least the way we misunderstand...LMAO. But, thank you for the compliment, it makes us feel a little less foolish..LOL.

Mr. Prufrock and I both have our Bachelor's. We played around with the idea of getting our Masters, but it just wasn't worth the debt we would incur. I suppose for me with my Bachelor of Arts in English, it may have been worth it, but we found regardless of our educational background, employers wanted experience. My biggest regret in college was not doing internships every chance I got.

I got through high school, took the year off to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Life tends to decide for you if you hesitate: I got pregnant, married, pregnant again, and that was about it. When the kids were old enough to go to school, I wanted to work, so I took a one year program to get myself back into the work force. That's...about it. I've always been something of a nerd - love learning - but still haven't even done a bachelor's degree. The ironic thing is I work at a university and the tuition is free.

Oh, man, I would love to take classes if they were free. I would just take a myriad of things I was interested in. It's a shame that higher education has gotten so expensive. It was expensive when my parent's went to college (early 60's) but nowhere near where it is today.

This is spurred by the thread talking about the seemingly large number of teachers that are swingers.

My guess there's a lot of swingers in education in general.

This post is going to use a lot of labels and stereotypes in the quest gathering information so please turn off the PC filter and share your thoughts openly and maybe we can all seek some useful knowledge together.

A couple days ago I referred to someone as a nerd and I passed it off as ok for me to say that since I am a nerd too. Always have been always will be ( I most closely resemble Gilbert from the original 'Revenge of the Nerds' movie).

Anyway, I got to thinking and it dawned on me that a lot of the people I have encountered in the lifestyle could also be classified as nerds.

Before we got into the lifestyle I had a preconceived notion that the swinger community would be made up primarily of the jock/stud category of men and the cheerleader/beauty queen category of women. What I have witnessed in real life is far from that.

Most of the men I have seen have not been smooth talking ladies men at all and have not been players at all or even necessarily that socially comfortable or outgoing. I have come across a few single males that are totally players and probably score a lot in the vanilla world as well as the lifestyle but they have been the exception. Many of the male halves of couples I have seen have been quite passive if not downright socially awkward and uncomfortable.

Ditto for the ladies. some have been physically beautiful and reasonably charming but most have been just ordinary folks and not a stereotypical cheerleader type at all. And while many of the single males have fit the jock/stud mold, the single fems I have met in person have been the opposite and many probably struggle for a date in the vanilla world.

So I guess my question is, are any of your observations similar or different from what I have described? Please share your thoughts and observations on this. I often hear discussions regarding cliques and such within the lifestyle and I am wondering if this is yet another battlefield between the jocks/cheerleaders and the nerds or is the lifestyle a place where the nerds truly do outnumber the jocks?

We have remarked elsewhere that we are more engaged with the organ that lies between the ears than the one between the thighs, even in the LS. The neologism for this preference is "sapiosexual", denoting sexual attraction to (and arousal in response to) intelligence. The topic has been discussed in websites aimed at men , magazines aimed at women and even in that staid publication, The New York Times.

Characteristics of sapiosexuals are said to include:
Attraction increases the more you learn about someone and get to know them. Given a choice, you would prefer a great conversation over mediocre sex. What s/he knows is a bigger turn on than what s/he possesses. Disregard for language (including bad grammar) is a turn-off. Sapiosexuals are more likely to seek--and are more likely to find--a diamond in the rough. Curiosity and a love of knowledge for its own sake is a turn-on.
With that in mind, here is yet another poll....

When searching for partners as a single girl I know that one needs to be careful about safety. Very rarely do I ever meet anyone from the Internet as I almost always have the instant bad vibe feeling. I have been emailing/texting a couple for about a week that found me on Pof... Thing is, no bad vibe gut reaction.... She is a funeral director of all things... But he says that he is a cop. That is what almost instantly put me at ease while talking to this couple. Am I being stupid or unsafe by feeling safer because the male claims to be a cop? I say claim because I have not met them yet but they sound very legit, lots of pics etc..
