FAST System of weight control.

Recommended Posts

About a year ago I was introduced to the FAST diet on a gardening forum of which I am a member. I was about 20 to 30 pounds overweight at 202. Anyway I read the blurb and decided to give it a try. In six months I lost about 22 pounds and got to 180. This was about a year ago and I have maintained the 180 with little effort. My loss of weight was about two pounds a week. Now I just be careful about what I eat not to the point of stupidity, but just careful. It actually became fun.

The 5:2 diet is actually very simple to explain.

For five days a week, you eat normally and don’t have to think about restricting calories.

Then, on the other two days, you reduce your calorie intake to a quarter of your daily needs. This is about 500 calories per day for women, and 600 for men.

You can choose whichever two days of the week you prefer, as long as there is at least 1 non-fasting day in between.

I didn't click the link, but Fasting diets are fairly popular, and there are many variations of it. The 5:2 is very common, with Late Night Host Jimmy Kimmel swearing by it. The next most common is the 16:8 diet, wear you only eat 8 hours of the day. The most common approach is to eat between 11am and 7pm. Which means you will sleep through most of the fasting, and only skip breakfast. Not a ton of science to back up claims, but what's there says it looks promising. Here is the BBC documentary that kicked off the craze:

All I know is the FAST diet was made for me. I use it daily and maintain my weight at 180 with no effort. I sort of follow it daily, but periodically go on 6 to 1 if I over indulge on the odd occasion. It is not really a diet meaning cutting out food, but a practical way of life.

I also grow most of my food as far as plants go and pressure can about 500 liters of food during the season.
