Antibacterial mouthwash and oral sex issues?

Recommended Posts

Guest

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but I wanted to give out a warning regarding antibacterial mouthwash because I have had several bad experiences.

Some years ago now when me and my ex partner got into MFF threesomes I would buy a bottle of mouth wash for everyone to use before we played. That basically we would all use mouth wash and rinse after with cold water to take away any strong mint like tastes, then usually we would have a glass of wine or cup of tea and then we would play.

I mean one thing is for sure you do not want to give oral sex with a residue of mouthwash because it gives that burning menthol like feeling.

HOWEVER...

The real warning here is that we found antibacterial mouthwash actually KILLS all of the bad bacteria in your mouth, but it also kills all of the GOOD bacteria as well :(

Putting it blunt we would have a MFF threesome and would enjoy lots of oral sex together then because our mouths had no good bacteria to protect it we would suffer mouth and gum issues / cold sore like issues / mouth ulcers and so on.

I quickly learned from the mistake and switched to a general non harsh mouthwash, really you want to use a milder mouthwash, avoid the strong antibacterial ones as they leave your mouth open to infections as you have no good bacteria protecting you.

Stay safe folks :)

Mouthwashes that contain antibacterials--phenol, chlorhexidine, cetylpyridiunium chloride--reduce bacterial load more or less indiscriminately. Generally speaking, most reduce gingivitis and plaque formation. Translation--they lead to healthier mouths in patients with oral/dental predisposition to infection. Note the statement "reduce the bacterial load". That is quite different from "kills everything".

Killing bacteria anywhere invites repopulation with a different flora. It is possible that sufficient cleaning and decontamination of one's own mouth with a harsher mouthwash might allow overgrowth with a rarer flora, or even possibly flora acquired from someone else. We are unaware of such reports because no matter how hard one works at brushing, flossing and cleaning, there is always residua of one's own flora left alive in one's mouth, and it grows back quickly.

We would not change our oral hygeine habits based on concern for repopulation.

I stand by my original post.

Antibacterial Mouthwash in my personal opinion is NOT SAFE, and should only be used under certain circumstances.

Here is a link that says Antibacterial Mouthwash causes:

Just as an update to this thread, certain health organisations suggest that you do NOT:

- Brush your teeth just before giving oral sex.

- Use mouth wash just before giving oral sex.

- Floss just before giving oral sex.

- Eat hard or sharp foods like crisps just before giving oral sex.

Brushing teeth, flossing, or eating sharp hard foods before giving oral sex can create "Cuts" in your mouth.

For an example of this sometimes when people brush their teeth well enough their gums will bleed slightly afterwards.

These cuts in your mouth / gums dramatically increase the chance of catching infections / STD'S / issues within the mouth.

It has been proved that using mouthwash / antibacterial mouthwash does in fact kill a lot of the good bacteria in your mouth. To protect itself the mouth creates a layer of bacteria on the inside of your cheeks, mouthwash effectively destroys this barrier and again makes it easier to catch infections and diseases during oral sex.

Thank you for the defensive post.

However firstly I did NOT just focus on Chlorhexidine based mouthwash but said "Anti Bacterial Mouthwash"

Secondly some of the research you refer to comes directly from the British NHS which happens to be one of the oldest health organisations in the world.

Finally here are links where anyone can buy Chlorhexidine mouthwash without any prescription needed.

Chlorhexidine mouthwash is available to buy without prescription at Tesco / Super Drug / Boots / Asda / Morrisons / Waitorse / Aldi / Poundland / Iceland / Amazon / E-Bay / Acado / Pound Stretcher / Mark & Spencer / Sainsbury's / Chemist Direct / Lloyds Pharmacy / and many more....

Please keep in mind I live in the UK so perhaps laws and research in the USA is different.

But sure strong anti bacterial mouthwash is easily available, and you are correct on one thing, anti bacterial mouthwash should only be used to treat medical conditions such as gum disease and other related medical issues, anti bacterial mouthwash was not intended for daily use, or for use before giving someone oral sex.

I guess what your trying to say is....

Doctors all around the world / the British NHS / the American Dental Association / some of them best Universities in the world / the US Library of Medicine have all linked mouthwash to....

Cancer / Diabetes / Blood Pressure Issues / Heart Attacks / Strokes / ECT.

But your saying they are all wrong, and you are right.

Here are some links where you can buy Chlorhexidine mouthwash without any prescription needed, in fact virtually every pharmacy or super market sells the stuff without any prescription needed.

I think the issue with certain mouthwash, for example antibacterial mouthwash is that it was intended to treat medical issues such as gum disease and mouth infections, however in many country's around the world it is commonly available off the super market shelves and people buy it to use on a daily basis, or use it for things it was not intended for which often does more damage than good.

My original reason for mentioning this was that many years ago when me and my ex girlfriend first got into swinging I would buy posh antibacterial mouthwash to use before we had sex. Back then we both smoked, thankfully a bad habit which we have now stopped. However before playing we would use antibacterial mouthwash to make sure our mouth was clean and breath was fresh for the other person involved, however on 2 or 3 different occasions we would enjoy sex with someone, we would give them oral sex together and ended up with mouth infections as a result.

I did a little research and it became apparent that your mouth is actually filled with both bad, and good bacteria, good bacteria that is there to guard against such infections and the material I read clearly stated that a lot of antibacterial mouthwash does kill both the good and the bad bacteria in your mouth. That sure it kills all the bad bacteria leaving your mouth germ free, but it also kills all the good bacteria leaving your mouth totally open to infection.

We then changed what mouthwash we used, we picked a much milder none antibacterial brand and the problem stopped all together, bot our research and experience both indicated that it was the strong antibacterial mouthwash that was causing the problem, we were literally killing our mouth's natural defenses by using antibacterial mouthwash which is concerning because a lot of families buy antibacterial mouthwash with the false assumption that they are protecting their families.

I do find it a little ironic that in certain parts of the USA you can actually buy a semi automatic rifle in less than 15 minutes but that to get certain medical mouthwash you would have to book an appointment with a doctor, be examined, and then get a prescription, that in some cases it would be easier to buy a gun than mouthwash.

I think if the USA has classed such things as a controlled substance then it does show how dangerous it can be.
