At what age will you stop swinging?

When will you stop swinging?

I see lots of swingers well into their sixties but I'm not so sure that I want to swing that long. I wonder when people stop swinging due to age is it because they are having physical difficulties or do they just start to feel too unattractive? Do we have anyone in their sixties or seventies on this board that can provide first-hand impressions?

I think we'll draw the line at about 55....maybe later. Depending on how well we take care of ourselves, and our looks ;)

Ted and I have discussed this ourselves quite a bit.

Sometimes we will say...Damn, we only have a few good years left in us, but then when you think about it, the people we play with now will all age right along with us, so I really can't see a definite time when we will stop.

As long as we are still having fun, we will keep on swinging.

There is no way to fix a time limit on swinging. All relationships are in a constant state of flux and evolution. We started when it felt right to us, we will stop if and when either of us or both of us feels it is time.

Good question, Ashley. My husband is nearing the 60 age mark and he shows no sign of slowing down and many women are attracted to him. (He is a pretty handsome fellow). Frankly, there are days, that I need some assistance keeping up with him.

All of our swing friends are in their 50's and none of them look ready to go to pasture yet and all of their sex drives are still high. (I am the baby of them all) I'd have to say as long as we are still feeling good, whether it is 60, 70 or 80, we will swing as "Sexy Seniors". :fun:

PS: Fun_pairTX --- Great response! :)

Wasn't there an 80 (or so) year old lady featured in The Lifestyle?

The question for us is not so much when we'll stop; we did that a few years ago. The real question is when we'll start again...

I don't think that age will be the determining factor for us. I think that one day we will just decide to stop, but I don't see that happening anytime soon  .

Just imagine all the extra fun when we won't remember who we've played with, not to mention if we've got the right partner on the way back home........

.......where's the house?

Like any "hobby" you quit when your tired of it or it doesn't hold your interest anymore. People get bored with their hobbies sometimes. I'm asked, at times, when will I stop sailing? I'm going to keep sailing as long as I like it and as long as I am physicaly able. When I get too old to handle the sails and the lines (ropes to you landlubbers); when I can't handle the boat anymore, I'll get a power boat, probably a trawler, plenty of room for a hot tub.

I am a male in my sixties. My wife and I started swinging in the late sixties. My wife and I have since parted (nothing to do with swinging). I have been swinging on and off ever since. I still enjoy the uninhibited aspect of swinging. I had a great relationship with a couple for over ten years. That ended a few years ago with the accidental death of one them. Sexy mature people that are looking for an older single male are harder to come by, but I know I will find one. I have to say that I do prefer a slower pace than I use to. Sex may not be as intense as it once was, but I think in some ways it is even better.

Since we will all be aging at the same rate, I hope to be finding people who are fun to be with in and out of the bed room for many years to come.... or is that cum?

That's a tough one. I guess the best answer would be, "we'll quit when we no longer feel sexy". We are in our mid 30's, and younger people keep telling us we look real good and look like we're in our 20's. I see some people in their 50's who have nice physiques, and although they are not in our age bracket, I could see how someone else might want to swing with them. We'll stay in shape, and hopefully can enjoy sexual freedom well into retirement age!

Me too. I find that I keep getting better with age.

We rarely ever get to swing, and the main reason is that we find it impossible to get away, especially overnight or late at night, just by ourselves without kids or without having to explain why we are going without them. When they are grown and out of the house, it seems like only then will we be able to have the freedom to meet with other couples on a regular basis. But I have figured we will be nearing 50 by then, so I hope that doesn't mean we are wasting our good looking years now and the expiration date will occur just when we are able to join in. (I think that is actually why you see so many swingers in that age range).

Good point Matt, I am 48 and I have teenagers and I know from personal experience I never would've considered swinging when they were small....there just weren't enough hours in the day and I was pretty much exhausted by the end of it.

I will stop 'swinging' at 55 unless they hang me. (nearly happened when I foolishly attacked someone's spelling on this board).

Sitting quietly in the corner of the room....listening to all the answers....responses. They all are correct for each one who stated it...for themselves....at the age and time of their life that they said it. But it all changes....as the years go by.

When I was about 27/28 years old I had a soon to be 50 year old woman hit on me hard. An average woman, single, not sure why. All but money was offered over time. It didn’t happen.....she was my mother’s age. Then I got older....and my feeling about age changed. I’m 61 this year. I’m a nice guy...talk, joke, listen, help people as often as I can. Love freedom....my bike, riding with friends, new places, new people. Friends in and out of the lifestyle. We have both had mostly the same more or less play friends within ten years of our age up and down. Almost everyone of our experiences never envolved those that are/were buff....or members of the beautiful clique...not our thing. We prefer fun and energy over beauty surfing.

The Queens youngest 22....the most fun, her words. One of several men attending her special 42 birthday party. Best older guy, same party 54. Oldest guy 63 when she was I believe 40. Most attentive lover ever in the lifestyle she says, kept her thoroughly entertained in a room for over three hours.

For me, at 40 she was 67 I learned later over drinks. An experience that has never been repeated and the most memorable of my life. She knew what she wanted, how and when and how long. She was a goddess to me. Youngest at 45 was 27. A poly couple we spent a few years with.

Now, the Queen is more selective and plays not as often (her choice she is hit on several times a night at parties) but prefers to tease in a nice way. She always attend gatherings, parties and events. I am still very active but more laid back. We have a wonderful group of very close friends.....in and out of the bedroom. It isn’t just sex...or notches on the bedpost.....a lifestyle, truly.

My regular lovers for the past 3-4 years, 29, 38, 47, 54 and several right around our age. We dine, travel, celebrate, help each other and experience life together.

So for us the question doesn’t come across when you might stop, age and looks related....but when we might give up our friends.

For us we do not ever see that happening....except through life changes.

I guess for some it is more picking out who might match their feeling of themselves. We’ve always liked the fun side of the lifestyle and have been very lucky to be part of it.

Probably when the cost of duct tape and popsicle sticks gets too expensive.

The serious answer is whenever it is no longer fun for one of us. Its a hobby and for me at least can only be enjoyed if Mrs. Nomad is enjoying it as well. As such if either of us decide its no longer fun we will find something else to fill the time. And if we decide to revisit we will. Its certainly not the most expensive hobby we've picked up.

Mr. Nomad

We take care of ourselves well and maintain reasonably hard bodies.   We are also pretty picky with high standards--I guess the age we exit will be when one of us pumps the breaks or when we stop attracting people we want to play with, whichever comes sooner.

It’s been a couple of months shy of 20 years ago that Ashley posted her query and comment. I wonder if she’s still swinging? 😉 (I hope so.)

On other threads I’ve commented about playing at a party maybe ten years ago with a MF couple who were in their mid-80s and had an orgy on their wedding night in the late 1940s! I wonder less about whether they are swinging than whether they are living. I hope both, though I reckon the odds aren’t good at this point.

I’m in my mid-70s and in very good health. I plan to continue being active in the lifestyle until I don’t enjoy it any more or until I can’t perform.

Among the activities for one's "golden years", sex generally and swinging specifically seem like better choices than many alternatives.

For those who missed the article last (2022) January, this piece in the NYTimes remains worthwhile and relevant:

Oh as long as we're physically able we have no issue being those kinky fuckers in the retirement home having extracurricular fun.

I am at the mature end of the swinging demographic as are my play friends. The ladies have their share of curves and character lines and often prefer to wear something when younger, fitter ladies prefer total nudity. This is just to say clothing is totally OK if it makes you comfortable. This is not a photo shoot. This is intimacy and mutual giving. Besides, a little color and texture is nice to see and feel. When I know my partner is shy I can adjust and just observe that as a boundary.

We’ve been out of swinging for some years now and wondered whether there is a place for 70 years old swingers? I do don’t mind if it’s just the wife who has the action although obviously I too would love to play again.

This is for older couples primarily, but could apply to any group. The question boils down to, as you get older does sex become a little less fun or does sex with the same loving person, become a little less exciting? Does life become simply routine or is the sex drive simply not demanding as much attention? Or do couples simply get bored with each other? Guess i'm wondering how to raise the heat level in an otherwise great relationship

So how do older swingers maintain their libido? Does the fooling around aspect help?
