What would your perfect swingers hotel be?

Recommended Posts

I had a brief intro into what I was doing in the 'new members-introduction' thread earlier today. Well, if you would like to give me a little input as to what you look for or desire in a swingers hotel/resort I would appreciate it. We are in the process of a multi million dollar renovation of a very nice little resort with 20 plus rooms in Palm Springs, California. I look forward to any ideas and input that could be incorporated into our resort in the hopes of making it a true swingers "Oasis in the Desert".

Here is what it will have:

20 plus modern renovated rooms with quality flooring, furniture, beds, countertops, etc;

Pool and multiple hot tubs;

Outdoor BBQ area with seating;

Outdoor play area;

Indoor play area;

Commercial kitchen with a bar and food service (NOT supermarket fried chicken and cold sandwiches brought in!) Home cooked Italian and Asian food (Thai-Viet-Sushi)??? Fruits, salads, etc.???;

Video room completely wired to record sessions and transfer to DVD for take home 'souvenirs';

Spa (small indoor spa) and an outdoor covered spa with professional masseuse;

Stage area for shows and events, entertainment;

Gift shop with full lines clothing, toys, lotions, toiletries, etc.;

Courtyard leading to a 3,000 SF 4 bedroom VIP house available for the ultimate private party which is next door but being converted as contiguous grounds, etc.:

Lights, Lighting, Outdoor fire places, water misters etc.???????

Input please. We actually have no theme at this point. My wife, which would run the place and be the future facility manager of course is Southeast Asian---so any ideas?

Secured and hidden parking lot? Vallet / shuttle service?

Restaurant open well beyond midnight.

Bar open 24/7.

Good vegetarian dishes.

Staff that is aware of what happens in playrooms too and keeps an eye on safety and behavior.

Personally I am not fond of themes at all. Gets old quickly. Unless 'luxurious' can be a theme :-)

It is Palm Springs, you don't need a hidden parking lot. Not after Sonny Bono anyways. Shuttle service, yes we will have. I am leaning towards 'no theme' as you suggest.

I meant 'parking not visible from public road', not sure if you mean that too. I like that with clubs and I'm sure I would like that with such an hotel too, there are mean LS-hating people out there. :(

A few thoughts that ran through my head -

With 20 rooms + 4 bedrooms, you aren't talking about a huge number of people at any one given time. That makes me wonder if the investment in the stage area wouldn't be better used for something else? Maybe make that more of a dance floor type area with just a small DJ booth/stage?

What kind of acreage is included? What's the view like? Since it sounds like you already have a lot of outdoor spaces in mind, which is good I think, you'll want it to be attractive to be outside though. Sitting by a pool looking at a nondescript crappy view just doesn't have the same feel to it as something that is nicely landscaped and/or has a great view. If you've got some acreage to work with, maybe walking trails with gazebos or something for when people want to wander off from the crowd for a little bit to get better acquainted?

I agree on passing on the theme, those can get dated quick and then you have to spend money renovating to something else.

Staff is of utmost importance, and that needs to be right from Day 1. Whatever it takes to pay to get who you need, you should do that even if it means cutting back or postponing some of the other amenities.

I could be wrong, but I suspect the video room won't receive much use. I'd be careful investing too much into that.

Let me clarify. Not 20 rooms, meaning play rooms. 20 plus rooms which are motel rooms comprised of standard/deluxe and suites. The 4 bedroom is a separate detached building but common courtyard structure. The property is big enough for day passes and other non-hotel guests to be present as well.

Video room is a turn off...we don't want to be a part of somebody else's souvenir.

I think the best clubs have an area where the music is loud so people can dance and an area where it is not so people can talk. It's really hard 'getting to know a couple' by shouting in their ear.

Also staff that facilitate intermingling. This is a tough one, but every club we go to has a bit different culture.

A strong online presence too. I think it's a pretty critical evaluation/sales tool.

That's $0.02

One of my pet peeves about clubs is the choice of music. My ideal club would play it at a decibel where I don't have to shout unless I'm on the dance floor, and they would play to the age of the crowd. I mean, most of us are 40ish, I don't want to listen to rap or pop or dance music all night. Mix it up with some age appropriate classic rock thrown in with the other sexy usuals.

Got you covered on the music, my pet peeve in the past! Lots of classic and related rock and age appropriate.

Also, added many cabana's with the silk drapes on the sides (vegas and resort style with fans, tv screens, etc) for more VIP look. Also many large circular and semi circle day beds outside.

Off this board many told me a good quality Video Room where a couple and another couple (All consensual) wanted to have a DVD and/or photography done, etc. ?????

Good points to reinforce quality and competent staff, thanks!

fire places--yes! Nights can be chilly in the desert

water misters--yes! Summer is toooo hot to not have them. Hubby says those are a necessity!

How the heck can you get a liquor license with open nudity and sex? Or do you just mean open bar byob you have mixers?

YES.....Fireplaces and YES-----Misters!

NO liq. lic. BYOB or delivery from nearby store, etc. Calif. don't play on that, would not even try.

QUESTION: I hear a lot of complaints about the food, Yelp a nearby place and others. The swingers complain about supermarket catered chicken and sandwhiches. Also about food delivery, etc.

Okay, I am an x restaurant guy from NYC 15 plus years ago. I love food. MY Asian wife loves food, Asian, Steaks, BBQ and most of all seafood-fruit and salads.

With that said. I can bring in two people to prep and always have food. One for Thai, Sushi, SE Asian fruit and salad dishes as well as PHO soup and lots of chicken and seafood dishes. Also an all around guy for BBQ, steaks and misc. Have to charge for this to cover expenses, it costs $$$. Otherwise the two alternatives are: 1) Fend for yourself with the standard snacks and fruit available and go out to eat; 2) Have snacks available and also, Order in for delivery.

What is the take among you guys??

QUESTION: Someone brought up staff to intermingle.

Besides all the common stuff; dance, bbq, fetish nights and all that, what about a nightly casino---not for money (those basement illegal games/nights in NYC are days gone by!) I am referring to a blackjack table and a roulette table. Sexy female and male dealers (I know lots of them in the area). NO money like I said. Prizes. Something to be given away. Gift Cert/Prepaid Card/Resort Credit/Etc. Interaction????? Anyone like the hour or so activity???? Just something to get the couples sitting together and intermingling?????

Food - if there is a good variety of options that are conveniently located nearby, then I don't see it as being that much of an issue. Have the basics available so people won't have to leave ever time they just want a snack or something simple. Make it quality but no need to go all out. Food isn't going to be much of a drawing card, people don't go to these places for fine dining. It can hurt you if it's bad but it probably won't help you being extra good.

Video room - the more I think about it, I'm with kikonkrome, it's not just something we wouldn't use, it's a turn-off. It right away makes me wonder how much I should trust you, which includes everyone who works for you, and that's not one of the first thoughts you want entering a potential guest's mind.

Casino night - could care less, but maybe that's just me. There are many things like that which are easy to try, and then if they don't work, then just move onto the next idea.

Have you traveled around to different venues like what you are proposing just to check out the competition? If you haven't, that would be the first thing on my list I would do.

On a side note, I am flabbergasted about the q&a about alcohol not permitted because of nudity. Why is that and is that everywhere in the US? Even those stripclubs you have overthere?

Just wondering.

As to the why, there is no rational logical answer. Just more puritanical BS that runs rife through things in the U.S.

It varies by jurisdiction. At least in the areas I have lived, on strip clubs if there is full nudity then often no alcohol sales. Topless-only, then usually alcohol sales. I've only lived a few different places though, so maybe it's less restrictive in other areas.

Many of the on-premise swingers clubs here are legally private clubs, not a business like any other bar or nightclub. When you pay at the door, you are technically paying a membership fee, not a cover charge or door fee like you would at a bar. They set them up that way to get around the alcohol/nudity laws and ordinances. Even with that, most clubs still are BYOB, they just provide the ice, mixers, etc.

I know it is in Cali. Full nude strip is no alcohol here.

I would guess the food, if you choose to cook it, should be done as a special and not every nite. Unless the hotel had a restaurant before and you kinda want to keep it? If it's possible to make it open to the public and the public can't see in to the hotel up to you.

Something simple for breakfast? I think one nudist place offers simple things like oatmeal (in the container from the grocery store) and muffins. PM me for name, I hear they HATE swingers so shhhhh if you go to visit them.

Are there kitchens in the rooms? What about a outside kitchen bbq thing? Does anyone get excited about major fancy breakfasts? If there is some outside way to cook up eggs etc, many will do their own.

And PS has some GOOD food places if you are near the heart of PS. So, figure out how to either get delivery or have someone able to go get the good stuff.

I think that is a general rule, Academic. :)

Everyone thanks for the alcohol answers, btw

Anchorage, AK. Full nudity with alcohol sales. That's the only place I've been that allows both, if memory serves.

We're a goofy country when it comes to alcohol.

Regarding Food: The best setups I have experienced have either been a large assortment of fresh finger foods, or a complete spread of a full blown meal, staffed by a food service person. The full service switched to a breakfast buffet after midnight.

The Video Room: While it's not our thing, there is a segment of swingers that would enjoy this, if handled correctly. We played at one club that had a video room. As I recall, you brought your own disc, and operated the equipment yourself, with no outside assistance. I believe it worked for this club because it was controlled by the customer, and the club had a long, long history of being a class act.

I with the “no video” group, would never use it under any circumstance. You can’t beat the Desire’s style pool size, large hot tub as a get know one another place on those cool evenings.

There are many good places around and near the heart of PS. Does not have a restaurant but does have a commercial kitchen with a decent sized bar and room for seating.

I am re-thinking the food but as our family loves food and already has a great Thai/Viet/Laos chef in it and he is also capable of great sushi,BBQ, etc., I thought it would be a great match up????

I am also re-thinking the video room, it was to be operated by the patron not staff unless there was a request for a photographer to do a photo shoot for the couple/people. But that was only a trivial thing, it sounds like no one hear really would even approve of it. Others I talked to off this board, most said they would use it, so confusing?????

I wouldn't necessarily throw out the idea yet, especially if others elsewhere said they were interested. We are just a subset of swingers around here, and don't represent the world's swinging community as a whole.

If you have the equipment, then give it a try and see what happens. If no one is interested, you can always remove it.

So how do you use the bar? Is that the place for mixers for the byob? A person to mix drinks and get tips?

A commerical kitchen is a wonderful thing and I have no idea how to use it just for the hotel-I'd be tempted to start up a delivery only of certain select things and other things to be as asked for with enough notice...you want a sushi nite at the hotel? or bbq nite? have sign up early and see if enough people want it.

I do agree with the finger food available. Are there awesome things to make in that kitchen that are snacks?

Yes BYOB, etc.

Finger foods, snacks and a breakfast bar/buffet all no problem.

The only problem with occasionally make specials or menu items, is the help to keep someone worthy of consistently doing it right. Also, the purchasing and have product available. Sporadic is tough to keep it going and fine tuning.

Stupid idea from across the globe: I would physically and legally try to separate the hotel/restaurant and the club, if it is possibility. All under one roof, but separate. You run the hotel, your wife the club. Then you are not restricted by alcohol laws and other strict rules that may come with a club. Unless there is a law that says clubs should be x yards away from other recreational businesses etc.

Well, I will tell you it also has something to do with 'access' and everything you discuss could be considered 'by proxy'. One thing I learned about California is DO NOT MESS with their alcohol laws or anything even remotely related to them. Period, no story. As far as selling the stuff, I really have no desire to skirt or try to profit from it. By the way, the casinos (at least the ones I am familiar with--Pala, Pechanga, Agua and Fantasy Springs) cannot give it away even if the player is wagering thousands a hand. Unlike 99% of the rest of the country. Cali even regulates how and when and the giving away of it, etc. I gamble fairly large at those four places and two of them we frequent in the high limit room. When we want to drink we give the staff enough cash to cover the tab, the write us a receipt in quadruple and also have us sign a statement that is witnessed that we paid for the drinks (to come) out of our own funds and we are not being reimbursed or induced to do so by the casino. Of course, we immediately receive other gratuities for the amount but whatever.

At this point in my life, I fought all the government, cops, prosecutors and x-wife and attorneys I care to. I relish a business with a wall around it and I will pay my taxes, bank fees and a good CPA as well as all the vendors. I rather not argue, life is too short. I will save my energy to take our 3 year old out to the desert and ride motorcycles, atv's and dune buggies.

And was not trying to be a wise ass, just tired of fighting with concrete walls in business.

Another idea from somewhere we visited once is afternoon activities - they had several, and I can't remember what they all were, but the one Mrs. cplnuswing thought sounded fun and did was a pole dancing lesson. Since we don't have one in our basement :), and there's no way she'd get up in front of a club full of people watching and do it there for the first time, it was nice for the ladies who were interested to be able to go off by themselves in a no-pressure, no-judgment session of getting to try out a stripper pole with someone there to guide them along. Doesn't have to be anything extensive or last all day, just an hour or so to get to do something different and maybe make some new friends.

Excellent and would fit nice.

Pole Dance lessons/practice

Naked Twister (to the right music with staff interaction)

wet t-shirt contest (with prizes)

Pin the fetish on the tree

Hottest condom installer game

There are five short ice-breakers to get interaction going.

Then you have to decide if it's worth doing all the time or not. And you won't know how well it works financially till you are doing it or not doing it and enough people ask you to open it up, rather than getting take out elsewhere. *shrug*
