I have been curious about the distribution of people here on the Swingers Board. I think I know where the majority are from, but I would love to see the results of this poll. I am gonna do it by regions so we don't have too many choices.

I think that I fall into the south east catagory. I am about 20 miles east of the Mississippi river, so I guess that is right.

Hehe, that right. :) I clicked the wrong choice in my own poll and it won't let me change it. Obviously not a scientific poll. :)

Maryland here! Hope that falls under the northeastern region.

I am also interested in seeing where everyone else is from on here.

Good poll.

Well my great grand mother would have said that Maryland is in the south due to it being south of the Mason-Dixon Line, but I think in the modern era, you are correct in choosing Northeast. :)

P.S. That is intersting, Word told me to Cap the L in line for Mason-Dixon Line. Proper place name I guess. ;)

Well it is the name of something. I grew up not to far from the M-D Line. When I first met my husbands family I was always being harassed about being a Damn Yankee. Hubby would argue that since I lived 10 miles south of the line that I was technically not a yankee. I was quickly informed that anyone residing above I-12 through south Louisiana was a indeed a Yankee, LOL!

Since Southeast/Caribbean seemed to be the closest, that's the one I went with. I'm up in the Smoky Mountains area of the beautiful state of Tennessee, though originally a Yankee from upstate NY. Yep, we've got that mountainous lady, Dolly Parton's Dollywood about 45 minutes from us! ;)

Just some idea here that You don't feel really happy at this perspective...

Well I don't know if it's something good or not for us - I mean the countries which are already part of this geographical Europe - to make a BIG United States of EUROPE ?

I just believe that it's absolute nonsense to inflate it the way Eurocrats want to do... We have already some "problems" to solve with 15 countries so what would we do with 25 ? I think this could be soon a big mess... BUT I must admit that it probably was a necessity for European countries to build "something" in order not to be economically run over by the USA. Already our Euro is able to stand up against the US dollar. So future will tell...

Collective enterprises/agreements that benefit pan-European interests (both financial and political) . . . good thing. Very good thing.

The removal of individual soverign powers in favour of a global European policy . . . bad thing. VERY bad thing.

I appreciate that the UK has already defined itself as being, shall we say, 'resistant' to the coming together that has taken place amongst the European nations during the last three decades. Long may that continue.

I like being part of Europe. But I like the fact that I live on an island even better. And I do not want the foreign policy of my nation dictated by European politicians. Period.

On this side of the Smoky Mountains (and Blue Ridge Mountains), we are about an hour and a half from Dollywood, Tym, but really far away from the coast and Kitty Hawk, so I will let your aviation claims slide Lori. Just don't look at our state quarter or license plates. :)

Hmmm. General "United States -- West" doesn't seem to be an option. California doesn't seem to have an option, other than 'Other'.

Grumble grumble. Maybe we *should* secede....

Hey, I need to change our vote!

Can someone use their awesome superpowers and change our vote from "other" to the WestCoast/California one?

We voted "other" when the better choice wasn't available.

See what happens when you change the rules in the middle of the game?!!!??

When people ask my ethnic background, I always say, "Native American and English," even though there's more British blood flowing in my veins, probably because my father's family was not so far removed from Nartive American Culture.

I love "the Continent" but it would seem inaccurate to say, "European." Please keep the individual national identities! Each European country has a special charm. Each is beautiful in a different way.

We love the Smokys! My forebears came from there. A few years ago we were in the Knoxville Zoo when some called my name. It was a guy I went to high school with in Tulsa. Frankly, Cherokee and Maggie Valley were a disappointment, but the mountains are beautiful.

Mason, Charles ( Apr. 1728-25 Oct. 1786), and Jeremiah Dixon (27 July 1733-22 Jan. 1779), British astronomers and surveyors, were responsible for establishing the Mason-Dixon Line.

Charles Mason was born at Wherr (now Weir) Farm, Oakridge Lynch, Gloucestershire, England. Jeremiah Dixon was born at Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

In 1763, Mason and Dixon were chosen to complete a survey to define the borders of two colonies in the Americas: Pennsylvania and Maryland. Pennsylvania's charter of 1681 had triggered a dispute between William Penn and the Calverts (Lords Baltimore) of neighboring Maryland.

On 5 April 1765 they began surveying the Maryland-Pennsylvania border (Mason-Dixon Line). They completed their section of the line in 1767.

In 1770 Dixon retired to his home in Cockfield, a "gentleman." He died unmarried at Cockfield on 22 January 1779 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Friends' ground (the Quaker cemetery) at Staindrop. In July 1786, Mason returned with his family to America, where he was friends with Benjamin Franklin. Mason died in Philadelphia and is buried in Christ Church burying ground.

I've never really understood the breakdown of the US states into regions. Mainly the large section that is termed the mid-west which seems to include everything from Kansas/NE to MI to KY/OH.... that's a pretty big area.

Chuckling at you "Bama"! My hubby, who has never lived outside of the state of Ohio....absoltely adores Alabama. He spends quite a bit of time there during the summer months fishing and such. He loves it so much that that he tells people that his middle initial which is "A" stand for Alabama. I think even he has forgotten what his birth given middle name was as he slipped up when we got our marriage license and told the registrar "Alabama"..... I corrected him, politely of course...
