The famous quote by Mr. Alura, and Pepper & Drew's Signature. I love it. Which brings up the question... How many of you ride motorcycles, and is it a part of your swinging lifestyle? Patti and I both ride. However, we haven't been able to find other motorcycle enthusiasts who swing. At least that we would want to party with. We have seen rides promoted on different swinger sites, and every time we've gone, there are a bunch of single guys, wanna be couples or just people that we wern't attracted to. We had fun riding, but did not care to hook up with anyone for what ever reason. We enjoy both swinging and motorcycle riding. It would be nice to be able to combine the two every once in awhile. There are swinger campgrounds, swinger boating clubs, swinger NASCAR groups, even swinger golf outtings. But I have never seen a swinger motorcycle touring group. But I'll keep looking. By the way, Mr. Alura....I've owned Harley's all of my adult life, and I never thought that feeling could be beaten. Then I got on a BMW. What a difference.

Both Mark and I ride, I've actually had my motorcycle endorsement a lot longer than my husband, but he rides far more now. It hasn't been a part of our swinging lifestyle though, but that may change as we found out at our club's Halloween party that there is a large contingent of riders and they go out two Sundays a month during the spring/fall/summer. And a few of the women are like me - they ride their own bike. However, much to the dismay of many (not that they care too much), we do ride rice burners. Mark is hoping to have a Hayabusa by spring, and I'll have the 2001 Kawasaki ZR-7S to myself.

We don't ride motorcylces ourselves. However, my dad was a biker when I was growing up, and so bikers are like my family. I feel comfortable around them. These were hard core bikers who really lived the "lifestyle"...they just worked to get enough money to ride lol. To this day when I hear the Bob Segar song Roll me Away I think of my childhood. I would LOVE for Jay and I to own a Harley Davidson. Bikers were wonderful, kind hearted people that always had each other's back. Now you've gone and got me nostalgic lol. |

We also ride, and sportbikes, not Harleys. We have seen several groups with swingers that are Harley oriented and we don't seem to be well accepted by some in this group that feels that it is a Harley or nothing. It's sad, they can't seem to get over their own ego long enough to just enjoy riding. It's more a fashion show than a group ride. Most are not this way, but enough are to make it not an enjoyable time. Case in point, we went on the MDA ride from Salt Lake City to Wendover, NV in 2005 with another friend who rides a sportbike. It was a testosterone-fest and downright dangerous the way some of these folks were riding just to show-off. We turned around at the first gas stop and started home, the long way of course. We came across The Utah Burn (a regional Burning Man-like festival) and set-up camp. It was the best night with great people we'd had in a long time! For me, riding is as essential to my life as breathing. I spend more time on two wheels than on four. That said, though, we have several swinger friends that ride, all but one of them ride cruisers (mostly Harleys) and we fit with them really well. To them, what they are riding does not define who they are. Right now I'm in the market for a track bike, then a sport tourer. I love Beemers but that new Kawasaki Concours 14 is looking really good, and by the time it gets here I might be ready to buy one. In the meantime, we'd love to find more swinger/bikers, if not for swinging, just to be able to ride with people we don't have to watch what we say around. Mr. WS |

I don't think they have big egos per se. From my personal experience the Harley is such a part of their identity that its hard for them to know anything else. Like I said in my last post, these weren't people that rode around with all "Harley Davidson" stuff on, shirts and hats and stuff, like a promo for Harley. These are guys that ride their bikes in the cold and rain and stuff lol. They look unfriendly, but they aren't. I can't describe it other than they are a very close knit society. They really aren't rude people I think, they are just set in their ways. But yeah, the Japanese bikes are awesome too!

I've never really had a problem with one-percenters because although Harleys are now associated with "bikers" in the beginning choppers were made from Nortons, BSA's, and Triumphs, with a few Harleys here and there. To them it truly is "Live to ride, ride to live". It doesn't matter what you ride so much as you do. The group I ride with is a mixed group, two Harleys (husband and wife), a Yamaha Warrior, a Kawasaki Mean Streak, two Yamaha R1's, a BMW R1150GS, a Ducati 900SS, and several others. So you see, I am not "anti-Harley". Mr. WS

Add another couple who ride... though we're more of a "pretty much anything but a Harley" people, for one reason only.. can't afford the bloody things. You could say we're Cheap riders, most of the bikes I/we've owned were bought for under $1000 (hey, it's what's affordable ~ we don't finance toys). Anyway, I've been a rider since before my wife got her Drivers license and managed to give her the courage/encouragement and direction to get her endorsement about 6 years ago. I even went for 8 years where a motorcycle was my only means of transportation (an '87 Honda VFR700), took it from 12k miles to 107k miles in that time. I've roadraced and am even a factory certified mechanic for HD, Suzuki and Yamaha. ![]() If only swinging were as easy as any/everything motorcycles are for me. And there's only 1 real 'break' I see with motorcycle riders.. you have the Riders ~ who are out there for show, to try and project an image, like to bash everyone other than people on the same bike/style as themselves, and turn Maybe a tousand or two miles a year ~ and you have the Motorcyclists, who don't care WHAT bike you're on, just that you are on a bike. They ride in all kinds of weather, try to find the common ground with other rides and tend not to bash people. The Riders I can do without, the Motorcyclists are the people I activly seek to share my time with. Brian |
