We never really noticed it when it was "just us", but now that our 21-year-old is living with us (and really seems to like being here ALL the time; oh the pros and cons of that!) we are very aware that simply scooching a pillow makes the bed squeak like shoes on a basketball court. Of course sex - well... That can sound like industrial overtime. I've pulled the mattress off, reset the frame, used silicon spray, etc. Does anyone have a suggestion? We are tired of sneaky floor sex. Spoomonkey (Of course, this would also be a great place for squeaky bed anecdotes. Entertainment is often better than advice anyway.) |

Is it the bed-frame that's squeaky or the mattress?? How about those tempurpedic memory-foam mattresses? I wouldn't think that THOSE would make too much noise no matter how gymnastic your activities got. ...ever gotten dumped off a waterbed because of a rogue wave?? It doesn't happen as often with modern waterbeds but I spent the night in the guest room of a friend's place with a leftover waterbed from the 70's or something. And you really got to watch how vigorously your partner moves on one of those things. I was balanced on the edge of the bed (doing my thing) - she shifted suddenly and next thing y'know - I got "wiped out" by the return-wave and nearly knocked myself out when my head hit the floor. |

I also vote for the memory foam mattress. However, if you are really moving, the bed will move a little. Those beds, bases and frames are very heavy and if they hit the wall, it can be heard just like a regular bed. The mattress, though, will not squeak.

We just got a new bed, and it doesn't squeak at all. Our old bed is now in the guest room, and while I never noticed that it was so squeaky before, after having my daughter and her husband visit over the new years holiday, I can tell you it really squeaks bad. ![]() To answer the question, the squeakiness usually emanates from the box springs, as they age it gets worse. Nothing much can be done about it except to replace it. |

We have an antique cast iron frame with a futon on a carpeted floor in our bedroom, over our spare room. Nice and quiet. HOWEVER, one morning PB took a fancy to office sex on the squeaky cheap IKEA bed, on a laminate floor, over our sleeping son's room. Guess who was in the shower before we'd finished in the office? Poor kid.

Can't say I have any better advice as for the squeaking... A few giant pillows between the headboard and the wall remedied our excessive passion disorders. I do feel your pro's and con's though, Our daughter had moved in with us twice over the last few years. Supporting a positive social life for herself helped with our privacy deficiencies in some ways. Now that she's on her own again though, we miss the little grandsons being around .But, we can walk around naked again now gettin out of the shower Ya know, I can remember one time Mrsfun was telling me quietly about something she did with a friend earlier in the day. We were laying in bed at the time, door shut, TV on. I was like "hey, why are we whispering ?" Old habits are hard to break I guess |

Usually the squeaking in our bedroom comes from me, not the bed! ![]() But we did have a noisy bed issue. Ours was the headboard. No matter how we tried to secure it, the damn thing would SLAM against the wall. The other side of that wall is in the living room. I guess the kids were just used to the noise, because nobody ever complained until we started swinging. It got to be a running joke among our circle of friends . . .We did finally fix it by tossing a throw pillow between the wall and the headboard. Would you believe one playmate actually complained that he missed the noise? ![]() =) |

We have the same problem with our son being back home after graduating from collage. We do have a memory foam mattress but the frame still makes noises and no amount of lube has helped. The bed isn't really the problem though, it's Lovinhim and the normal, ya know, sex sounds. At times I'm sure it sounds like I'm beating the crap out of her and she can be a bit vocal anyway. To top it off we have yet to find a quiet vibrator that is powerful enough to make her happy. Our so-called solution has been to turn up the TV or stereo in our room, turn on the exhaust fan in the guest bath (which is down the same hall as our bedroom) and turn on the fan in the master bath. I'm sure it has been obvious to all of our kids throughout the years because it sure was to me when I was a kid. The funny thing is if I forget to turn on the guest bath fan, my son will do it for me! Great kid. The big grin on his face is priceless when I go the kitchen to pig out after we're done. A couple of years ago I came out to the kitchen and he asked me "Daaaad....you watching porn again?" I even sound insulated the walls of our bedroom when I built the house and it didn't do a damn thing. |

Waterbeds don't squeak and they're warm to climb into in the winter.

WD40 on the bolts and anywhere the metal might rub against other metal on the frame? I'm sure some of the noise comes from box springs if you have them, but maybe it would help. You just made me thankful for the bed we have though. It used to be a waterbed with a wooden frame, and it doesn't use a box spring. So unless we have something sitting on the backboard then it doesn't make any noise at all. |
