My new favorite is the resistance channel at the community recreational center. Note: the resistance channel has no relationship with cable TV or satellite TV. It's three-feet and six-inches deep extension of the swimming pool that snakes all around the pool and has water flowing at about 150 feet per minute. Thirty minutes of walking against the current makes my legs sort of weak and wobbly. It's harder work that what it looks. Good for me as it does not beat up on my knees like a treadmill. ~M |

I just joined a health club. Due to that and some other things, my routine is changing a lot. Instead of exercising by myself at home, I'll be doing aerobics classes and such at the club. The trainer who did my initial evaluation seems to think I should be able to lose 4-5 pounds by making some small changes in my diet. (He wasn't being an asshole; I told him that like every woman I would like to lose a few pounds.) The problem is that I've already made all the changes that are "easy" -- I drink mostly water, cut out a lot of things that are easy for me to give up, etc. etc. We will see.

My workout started with south beach diet in April with this diet I have lost 35lbs. I also use the P90x work out program. I like the program they do recommend a pull up bar which I have no place for, so I just use the exercise bands. I am down to 170 and feeling good. My goal weight is 165 with muscle increase. (btw I am only 5'7) Now we need new pictures for Swing Lifestyle.

| JoAnn and I were back into the resistance channel yesterday and this evening. The channel even has a Vortex! It's not a Total Prospective Vortex; just an ordinary vortex. But it makes a great break between exercise periods. ~Michael |

Hi all...One or two (well...turned into three) small points that I haven't seen. 1. You want walking to work? Find a way that you have to walk with purpose (i.e. you're actually walking to get somewhere). When I used to travel for work, I would get a hotel about a 30-40min walk from where I would be working. Walk in, walk back...1 hour's workout everyday. Running a little late?...You'll burn some calories. Ursula hated me being gone for work; but she always loved the shape that I came back home in. Same thing for everyday...find someplace that you need to go to that's a 30-40 minute walk. Walk there and walk back whenever it's practical to not take the car. 2. Posture. I used to lift weights alot; and I thought that I was in good shape; but I didn't like my body image. I got into yoga a few years back and realized that my posture needed work. Yoga stresses balancing exercises, forward bending exercises are matched with backward bending exercises. Improving your posture shows confidence, balance and grace, no matter what your weight is. Lifting weights and stressing certain muscle groups had hurt my posture. 3. Weight comes off of your body according to your genetic code...not necessarily according to which muscles you work. Doing situps until you puke will strengthen your stomach; but it won't necessarily trim your waistline. You can do just as much waistline trimming by doing an equivalent amount of work with your back, arms, legs... What matters is burning fat. Actually, if you look at my note regarding posture, you would understand that too many situps may overtighten your stomach and mess with your posture. Don't get me wrong, I strengthen my stomach as well (usually from swinging a maul or splitting wood). I'm just stressing balance, flexibility and variety of exercise. George |

Ok so I get to the gym and its packed. The weight room, rather than the 1-2 serious lifters, had about 8. I couldn't get a bench or set up my usual routine. So I decide to mix it up and try more of a strength training than a muscle building program. Damn I've actually improved quite a bit strength wise. For example I've been only doing 30lb triceps push downs (with a split rope) since I'm doing 12 reps in a super set of 3 including a lat pull down. On the lat I was doing about 50lbs. So I decided to do a 'normal' style set. I was doing 60 on the triceps and 100 on the lat pull downs (and no cheating putting my lower back into it). I think I'm at that point I need to reexamine my lifts and see what I need to add. On the dark side, cardio is still my enemy, I hates it. |

![]() I don't NEED the TPV, I AM the center ![]() I'm going to try adding some yoga to my routine. My dynamic balance is great, product of years of spending a lot of time on unstable ground, but my static balance sucks and making sure I am strengthening opposing muscle groups is important.

I'be been on travel and doing other things that have mucked up my routine. So I haven't worked out in a week and have gained around three pounds. Got to get back some control and make time for exercise.

| Two heads are better than one. Are you a plumber, a SCUBA diver or a sewer worker? |
