Default the neighbors' baby monitor

I was going to put the old portable TV/cassette player/AM/FM away but I turned it on one more time just to see for sure that the television stations have actually stopped broadcasting in the so-called "analog" mode. What I discover is that the neighbors' baby monitor is broadcasting on a frequency just outside of the UHF broadcast band.

Now what? Should I respect their privacy and put my old portable away forever? Should I play the part of a voyeur and check every once in a while to see if they use the baby's room as the make-the-next-baby room? Should I send an anonymous note that they should buy a newer model of baby monitor?

I'd still ditch the TV, and, if you're on OK terms with your neighbors, quietly mention that their monitor can be picked up by TVs / radios.

Just tell them the truth, you were putting your old TV away, were scanning the channels to see if anything still came in, and picked up the monitor.

Let them deal with it from there.

I wouldn't go voyeur on them, that could lead to awkward moments later, and possibly (I am not a lawyer) violate wiretapping laws.

This reminds me of an old Will and Grace episode where they could hear everything through the floor vent......Can be quite entertaining!

Mr NC says he would probably just put it away without a word spoken. All baby monitors transmit on a frequency, so buying a new one wouldn't necessarily negate the issue. And like the Will & Grace episode, if you were to say anything, they would probably always wonder what you heard....So best to leave it alone.

No legal dilemmas here - it's a public frequency. It's not wiretapping.

I have to agree with the others. I'd ditch the TV and keep mum on baby monitor.

I know what I would do , but you should probablly just toss the TV and let them know they're broadcasting.

Give the old TV to the neighbors for use as an additional monitor.

Now there is the best idea yet. And then it would be their responsibility to "recycle" the thing when it finally rumbles and breaks -- now a $25 fee here in Pennsylvania.

So I take it there is an illegal dumping problem in Pennsylvania then.

$25? Damn.

Let it go.

Do you honestly have the time to monitor a blank TV screen waiting and listening for who knows how many hours and/or weeks to actually see if you can hear the next door neighbors screwing in their infant babys room over a baby monitor?

I think your fantasizing.

It will never happen. Dream on.

Toss the TV into a cardboard box, inside a large heavy duty contractors yard bag and smack it with a sledge hammer until it's small enough to fit into your garbage dumpster.

You don't need to mention it to your neighbors.

red96 hasn't quite let us get to know them yet.
Default Re: the neighbors' baby monitor

We have a baby monitor for our grandson, it can be set to 2 different frequencies. Our neighbor also has a baby monitor for their young son and we pick theirs up as well, and probably vice versa. We find it annoying to be able to hear them and their child and change the frequency when it happens. I know I would not want anyone eavesdropping on me/us so we do not listen in on them.

I'm thinking you're not likely to see anything good on the baby monitor, unless the baby is sleeping in their bedroom. Best to just junk the tv and say nothing. There's nothing they can really do to avoid someone else picking up the signal, and telling them could get awkward (How much did he hear, who else is watching, etc.).

After you toss the tv, you can pop in DVD's of Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers to get your fix.

=)

DONT THROW IT AWAY!! You LIVE IN PA... DIDNT YOU SEE SIGNS!!!

Ok stop laughing..

But seriously.. How about a different TV show reference? Law and Order? Wouldnt want to be an accidental witness would ya?

Toss it if there is no more use in it for you but be green, take it to a recycler, thats what we did with ours from our hurricane kit..

True crack up is, they rant, go digital, go digital.. but during a hurricane.. Who Cares, that little sucker in 04 showed us where the bad parts were, even though we were without power for 4 days.

As far as the neighbors, do the right thing, give them a heads up.. unless you have someone else locally who might be into listening to DIAPERS BEING CHANGED...
