Good morning everyone! I know...It has been a long time since I have posted but just have had a lot of things going on lately and the board has been the last thing on my mind lately so sorry to those of you who I have not been able to catch up with. My reason for the post today is that as you may know from other posts, I have had some health issues over the past few years. I have been anemic for the past 8-9 years and trying to find the cause has been a little frustrating at times. I recently switched doctors and found out that I may actually have what is "menorrhagia" which is basically a heavy menstrual cycle that could be causing some of my anemia problems. After the years of dealing with the anemia and to finally come close to what may be causing it, leaves me hoping that I can get a fix and be done with it ![]() I was referred to a new OBGYN and yesterday had my first appointment with him. He went over all the options that I had to treat this from taking birth control pills, to an IUD, to Hysterectomy and then finally the NovaSure. While they all are somewhat good suggestions I am hesitant about some of them. 1) I already do not want to do the birth control pills as this I think is a temporary fix. 2) Not sure about the IUD cause this is something that would need to be replaced after 5-7 years. 3) Hysterectomy scares the hell out of me cause I am only 32 years old. No we do not plan on having any more children but the thought of a surgery like this leaves me and MrVan not wanting to go down that road. So the option I am leaning towards is the NovaSure. Right now MrVan and I have been doing some research on the NovaSure to see what information is out there as far as it actually working, etc. So my reason for this long post is to see if any of you ladies on this board have had the NovaSure? And if so, would you be willing to share your story with me of whether or not it has worked for you and if you would recommend this over the other options that were given to me? I really appreciate any feedback that you can give MrVan and I, so that we can try to make the right and best decision for me ![]() Thanks, MrsVan |

I had an endometrial ablation about 12 years ago, and am glad I did. My only beef is that I had it in the infancy of the procedure, when they just assumed that women were rendered infertile by the removal of the uterine lining. Now, at the time, not a big deal either way, as Mr PB&J is fixed, but with our entry into the lifestyle I wish that I'd had my tubes tied at the same time, because it is theoretically possible to get pregnant, and hey, condoms can break. However, I believe that now tube tying is often done at the same time. If not, ask for it. In terms of the impact- I haven't had a period since. That ROCKS!! (especially in terms of scheduling fun). |

Hi Mrs. Van, thanks for bringing this up. We have scheduled to have this procedure done on the Mrs. in the next two weeks and are very excited about it, except for her discomfort, of course. The Mrs. will have both the laparoscopic BTL, and NovaSure procedure performed at the same time. It should be noted that if one has the NovaSure treatment performed without being surgically safe can open up the possibilities for a tubule pregnancy which can be very dangerous. I’m sure N8tureGirl (the Mrs.), would be willing to keep those interested posted on her results. |

I am very excited about having the NovaSure procedure done this month!! My reasons for doing it are different than yours. I do not plan on having kids, and frankly I have no use for my uterus! I was trying to find some procedure to stop my periods and find a safe method of birth control. A friend suggested the Nova Sure for the period issue. As far as birth control, I did not want the IUD, or the Essure, and a hysterectomy was too extreme although that would take care of both at once. So I have decided to get the tubal ligation and the NovaSure and they are doing it at the same time. I will let you know how it goes!! I hope the NovaSure is as effective as I have heard but I know its not a 100%. But the thought of no more periods would be a big relief! No more planning problems. It is always such a bummer when you plan and book hotel social and spend all the money to do so only to have Mother Nature come along with you ![]() To answer your question, even though I havnt had it done yet, I would suggest doing it just because of your health problems. The other methods that were suggested to you to me dont seem to be the best solution in my opinion. The NovaSure seems to be the best option as it is used to treat women with heavy periods. You probably have been here but here is the website: NovaSure: Control the Bleeding and Restore Your Life Sooner |

Yes, please keep me posted on the how everything goes.. I am hoping to be able to make a decision in the next week about this procedure as like I said, I just do not see the need for the others. So I hope all goes well for her and make sure you pamper her during her discomfort ![]() Please have her update us once she is feeling up to it after the procedure is done ![]() Thanks, MrsVan

Hi Mrs Van, hope you get your health issues resolved. Sounds like you're headed in the right direction. Tammy had the NovaSure procedure done 2 yrs ago. She had it done for a couple reasons. First and foremost were the very heavy periods she had. Second was going yearly to nude resorts. It tended to ruin her vacations when she had to hang out in the room for a few days during the heavy times. Kinda funny, the first time we went to Desire a month after her procedure. Laying poolside nekkid, she gives me this surprised look, grabs her towel and runs to our room saying she started her period. She came back a few minutes later with a big smile and said "The procedure was a success.....no period." She still has her normal other symptoms like a sore back, being crabby and horny......but no need to worry about the flow. We're both very happy she did it.Good luck with whatever decision you make. As for her procedure where there any complications or was everything a very smooth procedure? MrVan has done some research and I have not had the chance but I am heavily leaning towards this one but want to talk to MrVan more and find out info on it to make sure I am doing the right thing. If she has any other advise or any thing about the experience that she can share I would appreciate it. ![]() Thanks, MrsVan

I cant give a opinion on the novasure but I definantly know problems with health. At 29 I had a hystrectomy and like you I was concerned since I was so young. Of course every person is different so I can only tell you my experience. I had heard everything negative about having a hystrectomy but back 13 yrs ago that was about the only option left. Like yourself I had heavy periods and anemia from that. I finally consented to having surgery as heck anything beat what I was going thru. Well, I have never for 1 minute regretted that decision. They did leave 1 ovary but took 1. I have never had mood swings, never had hot flashes or any of the other horror stories I had heard. And my sex drive is as strong as it was before. Actually its better as I am not dealing with the problems I was before surgery. I LOVE the fact that I never have to worry about periods or getting pregnant or pain or any of the other negatives. Now, I am not trying to say get 1 procedure over any other. If there had been more options available I would have for sure weighed them all but since there really wasnt many options except BC pills and surgery I choose surgery and have never regretted 1 minute of it. Good luck in your treatment. The novasure sounds like it would be a good thing. Melody |

You could line 100 of us up to have it done, and we'd have probably 100 different bills at the end of the procedure and 50 of us would have to go fight with our carriers to cover what little they said they'd cover. Yeah, I work in the insurance industry.

| How true this is! Another gal at work is also getting the Depo shot. We are both on the exact same work insurance, exact. No options to choose from, and yet we pay different prices through our different docs.

Hello Mrs Mass had this novasure, about 5 yrs ago, due to heavy periods and hard leg pain after the birth of our son. We went to the doctors office , and we were home in about 2 hrs. There was a little recovery time but she was on her feet the whole time. Now if she gets her period twice a year then she's lucky and it is light and only stays a few days. She loves it, (me too,), no down time, hahah. But seriously she said it was the best thing she did. Our insurance did cover it. Good luck |

Ms. Willing here, I had the novasure on 12/15/08 due to extremely heavy periods which interfered with work as well as fun..I had cramping for about two days but not terrible, and have not had a period since! I would recommend this procedure to all my friends. The cost to you of course will depend on your insurance plan, and I have read that the procedure is not effective if you have a history of fibroids. Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you.
