Ok, it's ironic (I think) that earlier this week I finally fell asleep at 4am while watching a 60 minutes episode on the effects of sleep deprivation. I'm watching it again now and it's rather interesting all the negative effects of not getting enough Deep REM sleep. So it got me curious, how much sleep do you get? I typically am in bed and sort of asleep for 8-9 hours (at least) the problem is that I don't sleep solid... I tend to wake up and toss and turn a lot at night. |

They had a researcher on the show that is studying the effect of sleep deprivation on sex... using fruit flies... the study is showing that a male fruit fly with plenty of sleep when stuck with a female fruitfly does nothing but try to get her to mate, until she gives in (this was actually pretty funny to watch). But a male fruit fly that's been deprived of sleep tried to get the female to mate but gave up as soon as he was turned down once.

If it's a good night, then I'll sleep 6 solid hours. I am one of those who really needs 8 hours per night, but that doesn't happen very often.

If I sleep solid, 4 hours is all I need... so 4 to 6 is usually good for me. This is the same as it has been since i was a teen. Every now and then I need a bit more, but that's usually after several nighs of nearly no sleep at all. My wife usually needs a minimum of 6 hours... although I think she's been slowly getting less sleep but more quality sleep. Sweet Dreams! |

7 hours is about perfect for me. If I get more, then I end up not sleeping as sound and waking up easily during the night. If I get less, I seem tired and behind the power curve all day. So I have found that, for me 6 1/2 to 7 hours sleep is about perfect. Funny thing is, again for me, I can tolerate less sleep better than to much. If I sleep 8+ hours, all I want to do all day is take a nap. I think that is because I don't sleep as good when I get more than 8 hours sleep per night.

My theory is that sleep is for those that have nothing better to do. ![]() Ok, no, I don't sleep much. I have never been one to sleep very much and I am finding as I am "maturing" I sleep even less. I tend to be a very driven person, my mind keeps going and many times keeps me from sleeping. It works for me. Laura likes to sleep. She is good at napping also. Seems she can pretty much sleep any time she sets her mind to it. |

I put myself in the 6-8 catagory, but most nights it is closer to 6. When it isn't too hot or too cold, I'll usually take a nap in my car during lunch to catch up a little bit. I'm usually good for a good nap on the weekend as well. J (& L) |

Our sleep depends on hubbys work schedule. Like this week for example he's on 3 days then off 1 day then on 3 then off for 3. During the days he works we get no more then 5 hrs of sleep. On his off days we get maybe 6. I've forgotten what deep sleep is like.*lol*

I have always needed no less than 8 hours a night to feel functional. I now get about 10 hours, but I think I could do with less if I had a better mattress and wasn't tossing around the bed so much at night in order to get comfortable. LM |

On workdays I usually get 6.5-7 hours, which doesn't really feel like enough. Weekends I'm liable to be lazy if I can and sleep in and get 9-10. Average that all out, and around 8 I guess. I've tried to break the up and down cycle since I know I would feel better overall, but not too much success so far. I never take naps unless I am sick, they make me groggy. She is about the same but doesn't sleep in but maybe an hour longer on weekends. She's a napper though - just about any time is good for a nap in her mind, especially on weekends |

I was reading an article in readers digest I think. About if you can take five days of no alarm clocks and just sleep until you wake up naturally. Whether it be 4,6,8 hrs over the days. The last couple days is the correct sleep each individual needs. I need 5 hrs if that is true |

Sleep? What's that? I'm a total insomniac. It takes me forever to fall asleep (Mr. Sweet's snoring doesn't help) and even then, I'm up and down all night. So I just stay up 'till the wee hours (like now) and when I do crash, I seem to sleep more soundly for those few hours. I think I probably need 5 or 6 hours a night, but usually only get 3 to 4 hours. =) |

I usually get 4-5 hours a night when the Mrs.is working, a little less when she isn't . She needs more sleep than I do she usually gets about 6-8 hours but she works 3 nights a week 13 hr. shifts so she is pretty tired when she gets home.

I take a non narcotic sleep aid, life is SOO good when you actually recharge at night! Prior to that, I went a good 6 months without more than 3 hors at a time. I went to bed & got up sleep just didn't happen for me. That's no way to live. I'll take all the "side affects" over that life any day. I can work out, play with my kids, make love, work full time, keep a clean house...all the stuff that we take for granted, I can do again. If you can't sleep...GO to the DR. |
