Were you ever a Janet?

I can honestly say I was never a Janet. I've probably always been more of a Trina but I haven't necessarily always understood the "open and honest" ideal until after I got involved in the lifestyle.

I think I sometimes treat my wife like Janet. For a very long time she did not assert herself but now is becoming the person I married. Thank God. I really don't get along well with people who are indecisive.

Would a Janet be likely to identify herself as a Janet? Perhaps there's a little bit of Janet in all of us - we're stubbornly doing what we think is the right thing to do...

They are both characters on the show SwingTown (as referenced in the forum where this thread can be found).

I was totally a Janet .. . and didn't really see it until the last episode when she was telling Tom how no one would see her "like that". I too was the perfectionist, cookie baking, Sunday School teaching, wife and mom. I so tightly to those roles, I started to lose a part of myself. I knew I wanted/needed to be . . . more, but didn't know just what that was.

When the idea of swinging was presented to us, I suddenly realized exactly what "more" was.

And, "Damn it, Janet," away she went!

Think Martha Stewart. Very tightly wound, perfectionist when it comes to being a wife and mother, and doesn't really realize there may be more to life than those particular roles. She might want more, and may even enjoy it on those rare occasions she gets to let loose and "be someone else" but she will always have an excuse for doing so and say that was a "special circumstance" and that it "wasn't really her".

I've only seen parts of swingtown twice. I don't think I was ever a Janet, but I am Janet's best friend.
