Bad news, everyone. Per the Neilsen overnight ratings website, Swingtown was down about 200,000 viewers from last Friday (from 1.5 / 6 share to 1.3 / 4). In its defense, according to the page, numbers were down across the board. Whether that second fact will impact things, we'll never know -- only the suits in NY know what it'll mean. What it all means for us is that we need to get to work. Keep writing to and calling the network and your local CBS affiliate. Write the sponsors. Click on the website ads. Most of all, tell everyone you know to watch this show!!! Many people are posting pleas on the CBS Swingtown forum and signing online petitions, which are somewhat helpful in their own way, but the time has come to take it up a notch. We have at most 3 episodes left. We need to make the most of it if we are to have any hope of seeing more. I'm not giving up. Let's get after it, people!! |

I don't think anyone here believes that this series will last past the Summer. This is a "Exposure" series to the actors, offering them oppertunities elsewhere down the line. As to the series it's self, it is Summer filler. The writer's strike killed 1/2 of the last season, and we don't watch TV to see real life. We watch what the advertisers offer to pay for. P&G, GM, and Johnson and Johnson won't pay for "Swingertown", regardless of how good we think it is. TV is not about content. We are lucky CBS has so much decent content on as it is. Sponsors dictate it. And Sponsors dictate what get's aired. (When was the last time you saw a Public Service Announcement on "Numbers", "CSI" or "NCSI" when it was not in Reruns or secondary markets?) And CBS deliberately has Killed Swingtown with the Ad focus. If we were to present this as a "two and a half men" comedy (Which it is in a way) then you would have 20 million viewers. No. This series is going to run for the season, and the actors (and acteresses) will find other places to be. The best thing for it would be for HBO to pick it up. Compared to "Diary of a Call Girl" and other series, this would be a real killer there. |
