I agree. Something similar happened with a teacher and a student in my school district in the mid-70s. The girl was a junior when the teacher arrived and right after her high school graduation, they started dating openly. My parents implied that they were probably seeing each other clandestinely until the girl graduated. It was a bit of a tempest though, because the teacher was quite a bit older than the student, like 20 years... not the 5-7 years older than Laurie that Doug is.

I try watching Swingtown but just could not get into it. Then again I don't watch much tv. The few shows that I do watch is Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch and After the Catch. Love the show where Jammie and Adam blow up the mixer truck (I drive a mixer truck).

She's definately under 18, as made clear in the last episode when her parents commented that she wasn't old enough to vote. And the teacher is most likely over 21 (he's out of college and he's of drinking age - although I think drinking age was still 18 back then).

As far as legal age of consent, I know when I was in HS, the legal age in AL was 16, and actually it was ok under 16 so long as they are within 2 years of each other.

This has been my least favorite storyline on the show overall. Not so much because of the storyline, but I guess really Lorrie has been my least favorite character. Even her storyline with Logan was boring to me. I actually prefer the 12 year olds storyline over hers (at least it's sweet and endearing).

Now-a-days it would a female teacher and the 16 year old (male or female apparently).

I like this story line as a sub plot, I don't think it would or could hold it's own as a major plot. I agree, I like where the 12 year old's story is going.

What happened to Janet and Roger's kid? I don't think he's been on since the cabin episode. Did he run away with Richie Cunningham's older brother?

He was back last week, hosting what appeared to be a co-ed sleep-over in the basement while his parents were out.

OMG - I thought I was the only one who still remembered "Chip Cunningham" ... never heard from him again after the first season. Figured they would at least have brought back the character for the final episode or something.

From the latest episode now we know their ages. The IL age of consent is 17 and Lorrie is 17. Doug is 24 and was her teacher. Back then, maybe frowned upon somewhat but not all that unusual. Nowadays, definitely frowned upon but he still wouldn't be doing anything illegal it seems. Probably a quick way to get fired, but get charged as a sex offender, no.
