Default Swingtown cancelling

I read this in a polyamory group. I think we need to tell CBS what we think

Quote:
FYI...I spoke with a person in the programming department of the television
station which carries Swingtown. He tells me that Swingtown is scheduled to
be cancelled due to a lack of positive feedback from the viewing public. My
guess is that the many people who enjoy the program aren't saying anything
to the CBS people and a few opinionated and noisy people are dominating the
ratings thereby. If you enjoy the program and would like to see it
continued, Now is the time to say something to CBS. Later will be too
late...it'll be dead!

Feel free to speak with the programming people in your area who handle this
program. Feel free to pass this along to anyone else who might be
interested in keeping the only Real lifestyle program to come down the pike.

Cancelled network wide or just the local tv station?

On the two TV boards I read (sorry, I don't read the CBS boards), it's speculation that this is its way to cancellation due to the Friday night move - being moved to Friday night is often the kiss of death, unless it's a family show.

There's no "real" news article yet about any cancellation; if it were canceled the trade sites would have the news. That, and there are still tv ads running, which they wouldn't do if it were truly cancelled.

Doesn't mean it won't happen of course, but I don't think the final nail is in the coffin yet.

Didn't StarTrek start out with some poor ratings in its first season?.....

Yep on the Trek thing. Wasn't Cpt Kirk the best single swinger ever?

The fact that it was moved to the Friday "deadzone" slot is certainly a bad sign. Hopefully they will at least air all of the 13 episodes which have been created so far. This sucks though.

we are true fans of the series since its start date but if we get more episodes like "Puzzlerama" it may end up being moved to the 25th hour on saturday night.

I hate to admit it, because I liked the show, but in my opinion it peeked at episode 2 and has gone down hill ever since. I don't see how it can possibly survive.

Swinging is a great topic, for porn.

The problem with swingers are that if the show is going to be realistic, we are just to normal in everything but sex.

You can't base a long running series around swinging unless you are looking for skinamax material.

This is why we are always up to our eyeballs in cop shows and lawyer shows, the stories are very easy to come by.

I believe Chicup is right. I think you'd have to have it on a premium channel to really get the gist of what swinging is really like. To get the nitty-gritty of what swingers talk about, whom they have sex with and why. The conversations, the actions, the whole comulative scene. CBS has done a great job in making it a great show, but in a vanilla sort of way with a little suggestive and assumed swinging on the side.

Also remember that ST was in the 1970's and they made 13 or so programs straight out of the box no questions asked....today they produce 3 or 4 programs and then see if it flys....

I think the haters may win the Swingtown battle, but lose the war.

I've noted that several posters have indicated they contacted various spokespeople from CBS about Swingtown, only to be informed that a lot of complaints have been received. It is my opinion that much of the negative feedback they've received has been as a result of organized protests from the Parents Television Council and groups like them.

Recently, the courts reversed the fines on CBS for the infamous Janet Jackson incident we all remember from the Superbowl in 2004. I applaud that decision, and hope we'll see more like it that actually favor freedom. However, as you might expect, the head cheese at the PTC is apopleptic about it, declaring in his July 24th column that "That finding is beyond preposterous."

They may indeed win the battle over Swingtown, and get it taken off the air. But, looking at the bigger picture, they are losing the war. Courts are finding against them, and they are actually acknowledging that a slew of complaints organized by a group with an agenda, and executed by people who haven't actually watched the programming in question is of questionable value. I encourage CBS and all networks to continue to push the envelope until our God given freedoms are finally in place.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, CBS should do Swingtown as if they were doing it for Showtime, and then tell the FCC to go to hell when they come a knockin.

I penned a note to the head of the PTC, not that I expect a response. Here is what I sent:

Re: Your July 24th Column

You are losing. Good!

Slowly, but surely, the legal fictions that have exempted broadcast television from the constituational protections guaranteed to all are being knocked down. You are opposed to freedom, I get that. I think it's unfortunate, and would encourage you to revisit your feelings.

In this day and age of technological advancement and "broadcast" ubiquitousness, insisting that victorian era morals be applied to adult entertainment is rediculous in the extreme. I look forward to the day that so called broadcast networks (and with an 85% penetration of cable and sattelite, the very term "broadcast" is in danger of being obsolete) have the same standards applied to them as does the Internet. You can't control that, nor should you be able to control TV.

I have to agree with you Avanti100. I believe this show should be on the cable network. I have yet to watch one episode and I am no fuddy duddy, but I don't believe this should be airing on our local channels.
Just my opinion! Kids don't need to be watching this stuff and I believe they will. There is nothing wrong with our lifestyle, but I don't think it is for our kids to be watching. Like I said, just my opinion!!

I believe it should be on HBO or Showtime because so that the story line could be a little more explicit and the would not have to beat around the bush so much( no pun intended lol) They have to be so careful as to what they say or show on Network channels.Maybe on cable they could have the couples going to a swing club like Plato's Retreat in NY anybody remember that place it was awesome.
