A friend and I were speculating about whether or not it will cancel (in light of the Friday night time slot)...and we jokingly decided we would ship the network cases and cases of lube...like the people that protested the cancellation of Jericho when they sent bottles of Tabasco or almonds or whatever it was they inundated the offices with.

Eh, those things could go in the company break rooms to be consumed...perhaps they could give out the lube as incentives?

Swingers unite! lmao

Interesting. Should all programs unsuitable for children be taken off the air because some parent somewhere allows their kid to watch?

Okay I'm piping in here. TV is not the same as when I grew up. The local channels are no longer Gunsmoke or Family Ties or Happy Days. Anyone watch the show House on Fox? This is my fave show btw, but here's an excerpt:

Dr. Lisa Cuddy: I need you to wear your lab coat.
Dr. Gregory House: I need two days of outrageous sex with someone obscenely younger than you. Like half your age.

There's already plenty of seductive, plots and dialogues on "regular" TV. It's not about the language or content..it's about the ratings. The networks don't give a crap about morality or what your kids see, money talks. Period.

I also want to point out that an actual mailed letter will always hold more weight with a company than an email. Also, companies often figure that each letter actually represents at least 20 customers.

So if anyone can find a snail mail address for CBS and posts it, we could all send actual mail in support which would be super way more effective than email.

It would do better on a cable channel like FX even. Think Nip Tuck! I do hope it finishes it's season. I think the story line has a lot of potential.

Yes, the Friday night time slot is the kiss of death for many shows, and anyone who wants to see the series continue should make themselves heard.

I agree that the programming not network tv has gotten racier as time goes by, and the shows that make the money are the ones that will stay on the air.

And I also concur that this show would be a lot better if it were on cable, as it would allow a more accurate representation of the lifestyle.

All we can do is speak up and hope for the best.

=)

For this particular show, Yes. Does not belong on local channels (network). I have never seen one episode of this show, but from what I have read through this tread it sounds like it would be better off on cable.

With all due respect, isn't it a little tough to judge based on messages in a forum instead of watching it for yourself?

I personally think that the show does a fine job of pushing the envelope without going overboard. I think it's refreshing to have a little left to the imagination once in a while - I believe it's part of the appeal of the show. I know that it doesn't necessarily make it "right," but there are many, many other shows that go farther with the innuendo and sexual situations, not to mention all the shows that feature murder, rape, etc.

My fear is that if it gets moved to cable, the pressure will be on the writers to let the sex take over the story, and a key part of this series is what goes on beyond and because of the sex.

On a tangent:

I also don't understand the argument that so many people make (not necessarily here, but in general) that a show on cable will somehow keep kids from seeing it. The vast majority of households have cable or satellite, and most of those carry essentially the same menu of cable channels. If a kid might be endangered by watching Swingtown on CBS, doesn't he have just as much of a chance of being "damaged" by watching Rescue Me or Nip/Tuck on cable? I understand there will be some exceptions with regard to availability, bit I don't consider the difference to be all that significant.

Personally, I'm more worried about young kids watching shows like Family Guy and That 70s Show being shown in syndication at 4:30 in the afternoon before mom and dad get home.

And let's not forget about those daytime soaps that constantly show scandal such as rape, murder, adultry, lying, decent, and pretty much any other immoral thing on a regular basis and the kids can watch that before mom and dad get home from work. I know may people say "Oh well that is different". The only thing different about them is they are liked and excepted by the majority.

I know what the content of show is all about, and I don't believe I have to watch it to have an opinion on whether my kids can watch it. All I can is that "I" don't believe it is appropriate for local TV networks.

I have to agree with you totally here.

I grew up watching these shows and they show more sex in one episode typically than I've seen through all of the episodes of SwingTown so far.

If SwingTown were on cable (standard cable say) it would be a totally different show. I think they could still maintain a decent storyline but I do think the sex aspect of things would take a much more prominent role. If it was on F/X or USA we'd see some brief nudity (how many times have I seen Julian McMahon's ass on Nip/Tuck ... I can't count). I've also seen quite a few shows address sexuality and do it well even on HBO and Showtime without the sex completely taking over the show (but rather the sex shown in line with the storyline). If ST was moved to one of those we'd definately see a lot more every time the door to the playroom opens that's for sure. I don't know that it would sacrifice storyline, but at the same time I'm actually pretty happy with the show the way it is. We know what's going on they don't always have to show it.

It's kinda like when I look at ads on Swing Lifestyle, I really don't need to see 10 pictures of your naked ass, cock and pussy... I know they are there. I'd just as soon you show me one good full body picture with clothes on, I can imagine the rest.

Fair enough. I agree on the kids aspect, but again, I don't believe that "inappropriate for kids" necessarily means "inappropriate for networks," especially considering that 90% of primetime TV contains material that I didn't want my kids to watch when they were younger. I'll go back to my point that most families have basic cable/satellite, so is there really any protection gained by something being on cable?

Have a good evening!

I think I read that it was offered to HBO or Showtime and they turned it down.
