Default Swingtown like show on cable?

We've been watching "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" on Showtime lately, and we thought it would be really cool if they had a similar swinger type series. Ideally, it would be set in modern day times, involving one main couple and their advertures in the lifestyle. Perhaps it could start with how they got started with the LS, then focus on the experiences and problems that arise afterwards. Any screen writer reading this forum could get hundreds of ideas for storylines! What do you guys think?

I think that's more what most of us probably thought swingtown would actually be.

Maybe I am missing something but I think that is what Swingtown has done so far.

You have a couple that is new to Swinging. For them to be new to Swinging they have met up with experienced Swingers.

They have shown us some of the problems that arise when entering the Lifestyle. They have also shown us what happens to your none swinging relationships when you enter the lifestyle many times.

They have also shown us things that happen with experienced swingers and that no matter how experienced you are there can be drama when you forget the basics of what this is really about.

Yes, they set it back in the 70's rather then today. I understand why they did that. The "lifestyle" was more defined back then. Today there are many, many definitions of what this "lifestyle" is about and would be to hard to explore them all and keep it interesting.

I keep seeing some say they think it is better fitted for cable T.V. I personally believe that those that say that want it on cable so they can view more sex.

Over all, the writers have done a decent job so far of what things started out as back then. They have had to introduce more drama and story lines with the kids and such to keep it marketable though. People love drama, they don't want to see a show about a bunch of happy people. Happy does not sell.

If you watch "Diary of a Call Girl" you'll see what we mean. It seems like Swingtown as it stands now is exploring the dynamics of 3 couples; 1 experienced to swinging, 1 new and 1 vanilla (for now). Add to that mix their children, various odd relationships and the seventies nostalgia and you have Swingtown on CBS. Now imagine it from the point of view of just one married modern couple, going from vanilla to lifestylers. Perhaps a 30 minute series would work better for this, the same way "Weeds" and "Call Girl" have found success on Showtime. Yes, we would like to see the show be more realistic than Swingtown, and that does not necessarily mean more sex. Even just having the language unrestricted would be a step in the right direction!

I do watch 'Diary of a Call Girl' (it's a great show and I really enjoy it) and I'm not sure what you mean.

I agree with Lee.

If Swingtown were on HBO or SHO I believe that the sex scenes would take away from the story line. If it were to follow just one couple, I don't think you'd get as well rounded of a view of swinging as you do with Swingtown. One couple will have different problems/obstacles to over come from a different couple. I believe it would be hard to put everything about swinging into following just one couple. To me, Swingtown is very realistic...not only for the time frame it is set in but also to what some swingers encounter in today's swinging world.

Watching "Call Girl" for the first couple of episodes, we were surprised by how little nudity was actually shown, for a show of this type on cable. We don't think the scenes take away from the storyline there at all. It's just a matter of the implementation really. You can have some sex scenes and not have them be a distraction, too much anyway.

It's hard for us to relate to it because everything was so different back then; the lifestyle itself, society in general, the whole female/bisexual side of things, etc.

This brings to mind so many of the "documentaries" we've seen done on swinging in the last few years. It seems like every time they do one they pick one or two couples and follow them around for a few weeks through their swinging lives and what Teresa said above is pretty much what you see. It ends up being very one -sided and not at all a well-rounded view of what swinging is. It becomes "oh... swinging is about going to clubs and fucking as many people as you can in one night." or "oh swinging is about... fill in the blank stereotype here".

I think this thread is pretty much proving the point of how do you make a Swinger show that anyone would want to watch.

Most everyone has a different idea of what Swinging is and what they want it to be.

We can not even agree about much between us and we are all in the Lifestyle.

One of the problems with most of the films, shows and books out so far about the Lifestyle is they are done by people that are NOT in the Lifestyle. An outsiders view using the opinions of certain people that may are may not see the Lifestyle as we do.

Some feel the show should be about todays Swingers, mostly those that where not around in the 70's to see what it was then. Some think it would be better if it was about today, some think it was better in the 70's. Who is right or who is wrong?

Bottom line is anything on T.V., cable or network HAS TO BE about it being marketable to the most people watching. T.V. is about two things, Entertainment and making money. Nothing else.

That's for sure! Someone had a post here recently mentioning their "sex slave". We read it and are thinking: WTF?! So there are sex slaves in swinging now?!
