SwingTown Episode 8: "Puzzlerama" - discussion

Trina throws her annual Puzzlerama party, where Roger and Susan, Bruce and Melinda and Tom and Janet team up to find clues based on the neighborhood's darkest secrets

Guess that could be what all that sneaking around was about... maybe those who were thinking that the previews were done in a way to make us think something more was going on than was, were right.... or maybe there is still more going on.... we shall see.

I hope I like this week's episode better than last week's. It thoroughly stressed me out.

thanks for the heads up. According to the CBS website Flashpoint is on tonight at 10.

I thought it was an entertaining episode. Janet now sees the Deckers as a little closer to normal. I think she's pissed at Roger mostly because she thinks she's loosing some control over him. Janet knows she can't remain pissed at the world, how is she going to regain "face"? She owes Trina an apology.

Off camera, Trina says to Janet, "Hey, do you have any photos of your husband half naked?,,,,,, Wanna buy some?"

It was a fun little episode. I was glad to find out that Bruce had not already slept with Melinda but I'm not liking where it's heading. I think she likes a challenge and the fastest way to head her off would be to tell his wife what's going on. The longer Melinda thinks she's playing with fire the more she's going to play.

The previews for next week look like things may heat up a bit, looks like a trip to a swinger club is in order.

The only upside to Swingtown on Friday night now we can have a party to watch the show. Anywho, I liked this episode even less than the last one. Perhaps it was the wine, (wine tasting prior to the show!) but I needed the Cliff notes. Whose swim shorts? Wait, whose drawer are they in? Whose house are they in now? Did they sleep together or not? Does she know the real deal, or is she just assuming?

Too many twists and turns and too much drama. See, I don't even like all that drama even on TV.

I'm surprised by the Janet comments here. Janet had just realized that the two people she cares the most about, her husband and her best friend whom she practically idolizes, had each told her a slew of lies and/or covered up all sorts of information. At that moment that Janet confronted all of them at the party, it did look to her like once again, everyone else knew what was going on, except her. Just like the cabin episode, everyone involved concealed all the facts from Janet, kept her in the dark, and had been feeding her bullshit.

I'd have been pissed about being treated that way, too. Not even pissed, but hurt. If my husband and best friend had treated me that way, it would be nothing less than very hurt. It certainly would rattle my trust in either one of them.

Ditto. To Susan's credit, she stepped forward and told Janet the truth instead of letting Trina take the heat for her from just the way things appeared, but Janet was betrayed on many levels by two very important people in her life. One could make a valid argument that she brought it on herself just from the way she is, but that still doesn't make it right.

Granted, it's TV, but I just can't see all three couples getting together in next week's episode for a night out on the town after this just happened, but from the previews that appears to be what happens. I thought this incident would be the source of drama and deep conflict for several episodes to come.

We saw the previews as well, and it looked like Janet was in there with the others! Should be interesting...

I must have missed that. Somehow I think as they have done with past previews they are mixing it up to make it look different than it is. I think the discussion of going to a swinger club and the actual everyone going out together are two different things/places, most likely.

I think that Bruce will slept with Melinda but with Susan's permission and it looks like that a sex session between Susan and Roger is headed our way soon. Poor Janet, I'm sure she will also take on Bruce or Tom, but probable not in the next few episodes. As faw as Puzzlerama, I kind of thought it was going in a different direction but not and Janet getting mad at the end was a bad ending. Maybe next week will be better. It also looks like our main swingers (Tom & Trina) are quiting the swinging business for a while but previews can be very misleading.

I like that the more conventional the couples seem, the more secrets and lies they hold. Commit either way, but keep your partner informed. Yes, that is not always realistic or easy, but the alternative of getting caught is much worse.

The one thing in this episode that rubbed me the wrong way was Bruce. In the last episode he's propositioned by the hot single girl at work. Comes home late and acts suspicious (which apparently was a red herring). The two of them ended up paired up for Puzzlerama, and they maul each other on a public street (just narrowly avoiding being caught). Then he has the balls to get upset because Susan didn't tell him that Roger was over and they went to a pool party (where nothing sexual happened).

He is a hypocrite here in agreeing that there should be no more secrets and then not sharing his with his wife. I agree that there are things that happen in our day to day lives that we do not share with our spouses/significant others because honestly, who can remember every little thing? However, the biggies (like being propositioned, getting a good grade on a test, having a good or bad day at work) do get relayed to the other person either shortly after they happen or by that evening.

I really started out liking Bruce...but the last few episodes have been portraying him as a putz.
