There has been discussions of Swingtown's impact on the lifestyle on this and on other LS sites. I am wondering if any of you have seen or heard of Swingtown being mentioned any where in the vanilla world. My guess is that before it has any kind of impact on the lifestyle it will have some kind of impact on the vanilla world first. So has anyone heard swingtown being mentioned by any vanillas at work or at the grocery store etc etc etc? Has the show been mentioned at church at all? Has Leno or Leterman or Colbert et al made any comments about it during any of their monologs or shows? Has any other tv show or any of the news magazines or newspaper editorials made any mention of it? It's obviously a hot topic on the swing sites and with those of us already in the lifestyle but are there any signs it is making a splash in pop culture or in the vanilla world? |

I haven't heard of anything. Even at the house party we went to last weekend I asked how many were watching it...no one knew what I was talking about...of course, I informed them of the day and time the show comes on and told them to check it out. Teresa |

There were quite a few comments on many of the talking head shows (including Letterman, Best Week Ever (on VH1) and several other shows) the first week SwingTown aired, as well as discussions on shows like O'Reilly Factor (several others were mentioned in other threads). I haven't encountered anyone IRL talking about the show and I haven't really brought it up except around others that are swingers as well, mainly because all the vanilla people I know I KNOW would not be into it. I had some thoughts on the topic that inspired this thread but I'll add them to the other topic. |

I've been really curious why nobody at work has mentioned it. Nothing good, bad, or indifferent at all. These people talk about TV a lot too! I wonder if it's because they've done it, thought about doing it, or are talking with their spouse about doing it and don't want to take the chance on outing themselves in the discussion? And, if they're experiencing their fantasy, vicariously, through the show they might not want to admit that either. This is very interesting. |

I work with a couple who are extremely vanilla (or maybe not.. hmmm..) but they love the show. We talk about it frequently.

I think that many swingers purposely avoid talking about Swingtown at work. It might cause some people to pause and say, "hmm...they seem a little too accepting of this show, I wonder if they are ...." LOL

Some of our vanilla friends watched the first episode or two but no longer follow it. I think most people like shows where they can relate somehow to the characters or learn something about themselves through the situations the writers develop. IMO, it just doesn't connect with most non-swingers unless they are open minded and secure enough not to be threatened by new ideas.

I work in an office environment with a fair share of the religous participants, so I keep my ears open just out of curiosity on what type of discussion may pursue. With religous participants it could go a number of ways from the "OMG I can't beleive they did blah blah blah, they should cancel it" to "Oh I think it's so funny to watch, but not us." Of course I will probably be the one that will just remain a silent observer should it come up.

Most of our clients are members of religious groups, and today during a phone conversation about vacations, one of the women in Florida mentioned that while she was gone, she'd have to block CBS so that her two teenagers, who would be staying home couldn't watch Swingtown. I had to bite my lip, really really hard to keep from saying something that would ultimately get me into trouble! |

lol. Julie, that's why I had so much trouble keeping my mouth shut! It wasn't that I could have made comments about Swingtown so much as what I really wanted to say was "do they watch things as mundane as MTV? In that case, you should just remove the television!" rofl I've had this type of conversation before with some of the women working in various offices. I'm completely astonished that they would take care that their children wouldn't watch swingtown, but its ok for them to watch half the other shows on regular cable (not even the HBO's or Showtimes of the world).
