"Swingtown" on CBS?

ncmd_couple ... they way she said it, I'm pretty sure she was just cracking a joke. The line "I'll have to content myself with sleeping around" was definitely playing for laughs.

I've caught her show before, and she hams it up on the "slutty blonde" stereotype.

Yeah, you are probably right, but does that make it better? I guess I have read too much of the Swingtown board the last couple of days. People don't have a clue.

Yeah, true. But I don't think anybody is going to watch Chelsea Lately looking for any deep meaning. It really is a snark-fest much like The Soup, which immediately precedes it.

And that being said, they did go surprisingly easy on it (with the exception of cracking jokes about the 70's 'stache and polyester).

Nobody watching Chelsea Lately is going to have their mind changed on the subject anyway. Regardless of whether you support or oppose the Lifestyle, I really doubt anything that Chelsea Handler is going to say will change that outlook.

Well, well. I got the smallest of breakthroughs on their board today.

I had been debating with a lady who will never accept swinging, and basically hates the show, etc etc.

After a while, she decided to give up the debate, but did finish it with this comment:
.... you seem like a nice person and I wish you all the best but, we are not going to agree on this subject,

So, she managed to change her opinion from "swingers are godless evil people" to "at least one of them seems nice".

I'm starting to feel a little verklempt.
Ok, not really, but it was a little cool.

Ugh, I got an e-mail from my mother today. She forwarded the "newsletter" from the American Family Association calling for "outraged citizens" to file complaints with the FCC against CBS for airing Swingtown.

Does your mother know about your hobby? Yikes.

I, for one, wish CBS would take the gloves off, do this show as though it were on HBO, and tell the FCC to go pound sand when they come a calling. I believe were such a case to go all the way to the Supreme Court, were the Justices to actually base their ruling on the text and intent of the Constitution, they'd have no choice but to find the FCC's censorship and enforcement actions to be unconstitutional.

It would be nice to have entertainment that didn't have to live under the iron thumb of tyranny.

So...I finally had a chance to peek in on the Swingtown message boards and now I'm sorry I did! there is an SLS thread in there that is just NASTY! I cannot understand why some posters need to be so outrageously disrespectful to others. Does anyone have enlightment for me?

If I were curious about swinging and saw that behavior for the 1st time, I'd run -- far, far away! And I was certainly reminded why I don't post at SLS

File a complaint against your local CBS station

Last night (June 5), your local CBS station violated its license obligation to "serve the public interest" by airing one of the most offensive programs ever on broadcast television.

In the opening scene of Swingtown, the storyline sends an airline stewardess home with a pilot for 3-way s*x with the pilot's wife.

Your local CBS station also aired these scenes from Swingtown:

· Teenagers smoke marijuana as they drive away from school

· Two young boys get caught looking at p*rnogr*phic magazines by one of the boy's father. His response was, "Don't let your mother catch you with this" and hands the magazine back to the boy.

· At a party in a neighbor's home, one woman continues to ask the host and another guest for "coke" (heroin).

· The host offers Quaaludes to her guest to "loosen her up" for group s*x.

· Several party guests are shown smoking marijuana.

· One scene shows an orgy going on in the basement.

· Two married couples have s*x together.

Your local CBS station could have chosen to reject the network show. Instead, they aired it in your community, knowing full well, children would likely be watching.

TAKE ACTION

File a complaint with your local CBS station manager. Tell him to refuse to air future episodes of Swingtown on your local station.

We find this statement to be so hypocritical. People like this normally tout the virtues of personal responsibility, but when it comes to what their children watch on television, the responsibility shifts to the local affiliate. What kind of a parent would allow their kids to stay up late and watch Swingtown, anyway?

I don't want to offend any DH fans, but isn't there a lot of cheating going on those episodes? **I've only watched maybe one or two episodes, and that's when the redhead was killing someone and another episode when the dark haired gal was begging to have her boyfriend back after I think she cheated on him and got caught** I could be wrong about both episodes, but damn, is consensual sex between adults so freaking bad that they're willing to boycott those shows over infidelity and murder? I'm shaking my head because I just don't freaking get it. Can someone help me here?

I love DH but I have to agree with you in that they show a ton of sex at an earlier hour and they aren't alone. The only difference is it's cheating instead of swinging.

Donald E. Wildmon --- S*x? Seems he can neither speak nor spell the word. I think I understand his problem completely. Stating that coke is the same as heroin seems to flow naturally. And what was the father supposed to do? Roll the magazine into a tight knot and beat the kid to a pulp as punishment? And he decides that the manager of the local CBS station has to be a "him" and not a "her". This man lives in the 13th century.
