Everyone is making us feel old we were an Ohio Connections cover couple in the 70's and we do remember these type of parties. We loved the show because it shows alot of the strong parts of swinging and and a lot of the innocence of it. The music was great who care from what year . The drugs were kind of strong coke was just out of our income range but the pot was everywhere. I think keeping the nudity out somewhat helps as you can see nudity and porn anywhere but swinging from an artistic standpoint is great . We give it ***** rating

I think the Dom and the coke were in the script to emphasize the affluence of the new neighborhood.

I don't normally watch tv, but I wanted to watch this because of all the chatter about it here. It will be interesting to watch the story develop.

Ok the opening 'BJ' was pretty funny.

I won't be watching it much, but more because this kind of show just isn't my thing, I'm sure the Mrs. will be though.

Default Re: Would you watch SwingTown if you weren't in the lifestyle?

Current lineup of Swingtown consists of 13 episodes. When the writers strike began in November, Swingtown had just three completed episodes, far too short of what it would need to launch a new show. Had the strike continued for several more weeks, the show would have been shelved. HBO and Showtime both passed on the project. CBS took on a bold experiment in edgier programming but had to tone down from the original script to network standards, eliminating nudity and converting explicit adult situations into sanitized ones.

As television audiences typically shrink in the summer, CBS took on the experiment to let it run in the summer where it can minimize the damage should it get burned with the programming lineup.

The episodes will basically portray a journey of three suburban couples through their sexual and cultural evolutions in the 1970’s. It took a lot of therapy to get through all that polyester in that era.

This is a pilot run, the seeds are planted, we will have plenty to reflect on in the fall, for now, sit back and enjoy.

Good Point for those who missed the pilot, you can watch the entire episode on the CBS website.

I guess when it comes down to it, I had a bad feeling about it before it even aired and I'm not quite sure why. I think it's because I don't believe they will portray swingers in a good light, but as its been said here, that would not make good TV, What fun is it to watch swinger who truly care about others relationships? People want to be shocked. I also do not look at swinging as having an "open marrage" Mr. 101 and I go out together only, I always thought of an open marrage as doing anything you want at anytime and that is not the shared experience we have. Mr. 101 thinks it was OK all in good fun. I think it will portray swingers in a bad light more and more as the episodes go on. So many of my vanilla friends have the wrong ideas about swinging. So I guess I am a little defensive about it. They don't understand what it's all about and that it can make a strong marrage even stronger and bring you even closer to your spouse that you thought possible.
I think the thing about this show that's getting overlooked and being fretted upon (besides the obvious fact that it's a TV drama), is the time frame. I generally look forward to VegasLee's posts because he's one person (among a few others here) who can reflect on when the lifestyle was about sex! It wasn't about "friends first", or couples only, or "we travel as a pair", or who cares what about whose relationships... it was about consenting adults having casual sex with people other than their spouse.

The 70's were a hedonistic time, people... sex, drugs and rock & roll! If it feels good, do it. And with that, viewers--perhaps swinging viewers most of all--need to keep in mind that the general way of things now, certainly was not the general way of things then. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Depends on your perspective. Myself, I wish I was around to swing in the 70s (I was 12 in 1976), as it seems that things were 'purer' and simpler then... when it was just about the sex.

That being said, of course certain aspects are going to be dramatized and written in such a way as to generate interest from the general public. That goes without saying because it's a TV drama, and as others have mentioned this series, in the final analysis, will be no more about swinging than the Sopranos is about the mob or Nip/Tuck is about plastic surgery, et al. All dramas are about people and their relationships and yes, their drama.

[/rant]We now return to your regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.

This is a very good point we hadn't given much thought to. Now we wonder if mobsters and plastic surgeons have similar discussions about the way their professions are portrayed on television.

Swingtown was mentioned on E! Entertainment's Chelsea Lately last night. As we were with another couple at a time, it instantly got our attention and we all stopped talking and turned up the volume.

All being said and done, it generally got a good vibe from the host (Chelsea Handler) and her guests, with them snarking on one of the cast's mustache. Chelsea herself said that "Swinging is cool" and that she wishes she could be a swinger, but "I don't think my boyfriend is ready for that, so I guess I'll just have to be content with sleeping around instead." One of the other guests, a big guy (think The King of Queens Kevin James) made a comment that he wishes he could be a swinger too, but it would never work out because while his wife was a "hottie", he was "just some big fat guy, we're like the custom-made sitcom couple."

Chris&Amelia,

I have to shake my head when people think that it is better to "sleep around" than to be totally open and honest and swing. People in the vanilla world fuck around on their SOs and it is ok but wet their pants about us. Geesh! One disadvantage of them picking only thin attractive people for the show is that everyone thinks we are Ken and Barbie! Gadzooks, that sure as hell isn't true!!
