"Swingtown" on CBS?

Haven't seen the show yet, but I'm having a grand ol' time reading the comments in their official forums.

Wow! You should see the holier-then-thou types!

My personal favorites:

Not being able to sustain yourself as a real adult human being in a monogamous relationship is called "underdevelopment".

I find it to be very irrisponsable of CBS to promote casual sex in a time where sex kills. We have the issues we have today because of casual sex.
I for find it hatd enough to teach my children responable ways of life without CBS shoving it down our throats.
I will not even watch the pilot the commercials make me sick.

I can not believe a show like this is even being aired. Most say that if I don't like it, don't watch. Thats not good enough. Kids are so easily influenced and this is just one more idea they will think is the norm. What happened to monogamy and morals? It is proven that kids respond and act out to the things they see on TV, why givethem more ammunition. We, as adults, need to take control and stop these kinds of shows from being on television. I plead for CBS to take this show out of the weekly lineup and replace it with more family oriented shows!!!!!!!!

And, finally, gotta throw in a "You're going to HELL!" post...

I guess nothings sacred anymore in this secular world you're being tested in. No one in television has any imagination anymore and has to brainwash a new and younger generation with this kind of rehashed Boogie Nights ripoff. " It's fine...it was back then..and it still is today...go ahead...it's alright...you don't have OR need any moral values..just do what feels good and drag millions of sheep along with you for the eternal ride w/ me... but bring LOTS of marshmellows and weenies, 'cause theres' no end to the fire down here. I'll be waiting for you ALL, Brass, producers, directors, "actors" (and I use that term loosely) and of course the gullibe masses.

I just spent far more time than I can afford today over at CBS.com – Official site of CBS posting on the Swingtown discussion board.

It's hard to keep up, the posts are coming in faster than can be answered but we need a lot of our board members over there expressing our support for the show and honest depictions of swinging.

I couldn't believe there was already an "Alura" registered. I had to become "Alura1"!

You know, it's just wrong that someone else is using the Alura name. Bastards they are! You should have a trademark on it.

We got over there to help too. Suprisingly, there seem to be more lovers than haters. Anyway, the show did an 8.58, actually increasing from the CSI episode that led-in. Those are some pretty good ratings. We have been promoting SB over at CBS, so hopefully Julie will see some increased traffic over here.

Overall, our impression of the show was positive. As both a swinging couple and as a couple that remembers the 70's (although we weren't swinging then), it is nice to see a dramatic series that features so many familiar characters and recognizable situations. We're already anxious to see where some of the the initial storylines will go.

However, there was one thing we found rather odd about the hype surrounding the series. While most of Swingtown's detractors focused on the sex, they probably should have complained more about the drugs. This might change as the series progresses, but the pilot episode was far more drug-soaked than sexy.

We've heard some people argue that the show would be more entertaining if it were on cable, thus allowing the show to be more open in its depiction of nudity and sex, but we disagree. Frankly, we already see so much nudity and sex elsewhere that we don't feel we have to see it on prime-time television, even in the context of a show like Swingtown. When we want to see porn, we know where to find it, so we're happy with Swingtown on CBS.

As rock music trivia buffs we do have a nickpick regarding the otherwise enjoyable soundtrack: Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" and Rita Coolidge's "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher And Higher" were not released until well after July 1976. Nevertheless, we plan on giving the music another listen at Swingtown's official online radio station.

Rumours was released in February 1977, and Anytime.....Anywhere was released in March 1977, so yeah, they were about six months early.

Nevertheless, we plan on giving the music another listen at Swingtown's official online radio station.

It's funny trying to get into a discussion with them (the haters, that is). They don't appear to understand debate.

Them: "This is terrible! Cancel it now! Swinging is bad!"

Lee, you're probably right.

I honestly think that they are stunned, stunned! that people involved in swinging are capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation about the subject, and can defend their position with skill and class.
When they see this, they realize they have picked a fight they can't, or won't likely win.


I believe they think we just walk around holding our dicks looking for a place to stick them.
(I'm only occasionally guilty of that)

I believe where we pick up points on that board is through the casual lurker. They see that we aren't evil, have some intelligence, and even if they don't agree with our choices, they will at least respect us for being able to voice our reasons why in an intelligent manner.

I have always been one that will not defend my lifestyle but will defend my right to have and enjoy my lifestyle.

That seems to be something most of the "others" can better understand.

As I always tell them, change the channel. They also have that right.
