Swingers on ABC News Primetime Tonight

Tonight, the ABC news show Primetime will do a segment on swingers. Other than that, I know nothing about it.

Given the choice, I'll watch the same subject on the "Secret Lives of Women" on WE tonight at the same time.

wow I knew there was a reason I had primetime on my schedule for record, I went to my guide and said why am i record primetime, I don't know what channel is the We channel, but I'm going to watch primetime

I watched it...just another attempt for the public media to put their slant on something they know nothing about. If they understood swinging like many people on this site do, they would never have asked the "morality" questions.

We watched it, and both of us thought that the lifestyle was presented admirably. Every comment that was made by real swingers, we could understand and agree with. Now, the Asexual people completely boggled both of our minds.....

I was pleasantly surprised to see only positive posts about the show on their message board. Maybe the shit still hasn't squarely hit the fan in all corners of North America yet...

Then again, it IS a re-broadcast. But re-broadcasting doesn't seem to dampen the righeous fires of of Oprah's cult on her message board. Maybe Oprah is a nice lady in her own right, but whether she likes it or not, she does have a lot of bleating sheep in her wake.

Mrs. and I saw both segments and thought much the same on both. I did find it interesting that ABC's interviewer kept trying to call swinging cheating - to get the morality angle in there. Not like ~70% of couples in the vanilla world don't have sex outside of marriage. They just do it the old fashioned way and do it behind their partner's backs and lie about it. I also found it interesting that they talked to five marriage councillors who did not find a problem with sexually open marriages - but then they found one to put on camera who said swingers were damaging intimacy in the long run in their marriages - apparently he didn't speak to the couple who had been swinging for 20 some years.
All in all, 10 minutes of not very much depth, and some silly attempts to froth up morality issues, but the couples interviewed presented well.

John Stossel is a Libertarian, so for him to seriously question consensual sex between adults would go against just about everything he believes in. His questions were the softest of softballs, a half-hearted attempt at balance.

As for the interviewees presenting well, I agree, the benevolent brainwashing of the Lifestyle Overlords has versed them well in the swinging platitudes. Let's see how many I can remember...

"at the end of the night, she's coming home with me"
"husbands get their wives started in the lifestyle, but the wives keep them in it"
"we're just average, ordinary people"
"we went home and had the best sex of our lives"
"it's made our sex lives better"
"it's just sex"

How come no one ever says any of these:

"It's the only way I'll ever get to eat another man's cum out of my wife's pussy"
"My husband has a small dick and I am a real size queen"
"Well, you just can't DP with one person"
"We like to think of sex as a spectator sport"

But seriously, I was happy to see the report. Anything that increases the pool of potential playmates is a good thing to me.

The cable channel WE had a much better show on swingers. To bad it was on at the same time. Once again a headshrinker had to come on and denounce swinging without giving anything but his opinium to back it up.

Thats funny, I liked the one on prime time much better than the one on WE. The one on WE I didn't think presented a very good example of the swingers I know.

As far as John Stossel's questions go, I thought they were actually good, because they were things that vanilla people commonly think about swingers and it gave the panel a chance to respond to those myth's.

I think both shows were light on real swingers and heavy on subjects that had an agenda or something to promote though.

I originally thought the WE show would be good because they just let the people talk and don't do interviews. The problem is if I new nothing about swinging and saw only that show I would have a totally different impression of swinging than what I know it to be.
