I know I have seen other threads on the portrayal of swinging on network TV somewhere, but I wasn't able to dig it up right now. So I'm watching the premiere of "The Casino" on Fox, which is produced by Mark Burnett (the Survivor and the Apprentice guy). Hysterical, by the way. Some high roller picked up a chick with a dick (unbeknownst to him, obviously). High comedy. This week, they followed two big storylines, and the preview for next week looked like it was going to follow a similar course. One was a high-roller craps player who flipped out. After that, they said something like "and these experienced swingers roll into town. What will happen to this young couple caught in the middle?" I was just wondering how the lifestyle is going to end up being portrayed. The preview showed three twenty-somethings hanging all over each other for the "experienced swingers" bit, and then a shocked looking couple on a couch of a similar age (presumably much later in the evening.) I wonder a) if they are going to assume a couple of wet-behind-the-ears kids are representative of the whole lifestyle, b) if they are going to portray them as "predators" taking advantage of this other couple, and c) what they will have left on the cutting room floor. Before I disparage my generation any more (What did this other couple THINK they were getting into? Of course the show won't cover whether they did or didn't communicate with each other in the hours/months/years before hand, or if they already had relationship/jealousy problems. Why did these other three have to waltz into a casino and make enough of a scene to attract reality TV producers? etc.), I'd like to hear what you guys think. Obviously, we'll have more to talk about in a week after the show actually airs, but in case they devote 20 or 30 minutes to this next week I wanted to give you guys a heads up. |

Sounds interesting. I tivoed tonight's episode but haven't watched it yet as that TV is acting funny. I'll be sure to record next week's show as well now. BTW, it's on Monday nights at 9pm EST on Fox for those who are wondering. |

We say the preview teaser as well, albeit briefly. However, what caused us to do a double take is that one of the couples looked like a couple we know from the Lifestyles West Convention. Needless to say, we'll be tuned in as well next week! Have You Hugged Your Club Owner Today? |

Finally saw the first episode. I would have to say that the likelihood of me watching the second would be slim if it weren't for the swinging topic. Should be interesting to see how they portray things.

Bump. Is anyone watching this right now? When the swingers first walked over to their table, the woman's first response was something like, "Well, you WOULD like that, wouldn't you, honey?", and she was pretty hostile about it. This looks like it's going to be disasterous . . .

Agreed. Pretty stereotypical, actually. She drags her heels, he pulls the "you'll only live once" jargon, she tags along, they get up to the room, she starts to get into it, he starts to flip out, he convinces her to leave. *yawn* Not that much time spent on the actual swingers, just the people dipping their toes in. In the guy's interview in the end, he said something about how the swingers didn't seem to love each other any more, and that they had completely been overcome by sexual desires. He said they probably did love each other at the beginning of their relationship, but that he felt they had given it all up to fulfill their lusts. (I might have missed some of it, I was doing dishes at the time . . .) So that's the one opinion 6 million viewers got of swingers tonight. Oh well. Their loss. |

My redundancies occasionally pay off and this was one of those times as I found that I had recorded the show in the bedroom. "The swingers hunt for their prey" That pretty much summed up the way the Plush Party folks made swingers look. As for the curious couple I found it interesting that he was all pushing for it to begin with and then once she got interested and just wanted to sit and watch the others play he couldn't take it. I think the thing that bothered me most tho was when he said that he would just leave her there if she wanted to stay and come back for her in the morning. |

Would it not be interesting to contact the producers of this program and letting them know that this is not really the Swingers lifestyle?

Unfortunately for some it is. The sad part is there is no way to know if the Plush Party people really do come on like that, or if it was just edited to look that way. I know that if a couple approached me that way (even tho I am a swinger) there's no way I'd go with them. |

The most exciting thing about "Wifeswap" is the name. It doesn't really have anything to do with sex or swinging. It is only that 2 families swapping their wife/mom/etc. All of the religious right are up in arms over it but, it really isn't a big deal. It wouldn't be that good of an idea anyway, it would make alot more people wonder why some of us have so many friends. Sounded good at first though. RUfor2 |
