I am curious as to other people's opinions on this matter as there seems to be a strong bias against a club in our area. My question to everybody, but especially to club owners is how much advertisement is too much. I'm aware some clubs have been known to have special guest porn stars, actors, even famous athletes. Obviously some of these have the potential to bring in vanillas to the club and the potential of bringing some unwanted attention to the lifestyle. There is a club that is hosting a special event, one that will probably bring in quite a few vanilla-folk to the club. In addition to advertising the event on the radio, the owner is inviting the radio station to cover the event live. I'm pretty sure the owner will not allow the radio station inside the club while in operation or they will only be alloweed in the areas of the event, however, nothing has been said to confirm or deny that. The event is a bike show and as many swingers seem to be bikers, this sounded like a good idea for an event. It has been brought up on another forum that this will bring unwanted attention and could possibly be dangerous to the safety of swingers as many of us value discretion and there is the possibility of vanilla people attending the event. Just wanted some people's opinion on it who are not involved in the whole affair. So...how much is too much? |

Personally we would not have a problem with it since we like bikes and don't care who shows up as long as there is no drama. If you are concerned about vanillas finding you out, don't go. I would see no reason that the owner would have to limit the radio station to any one area of the club as long as they don't have camera's to take pictures for their web site. We have had many radio stations come to the club, some live over the years and most loved it. Was surprised at how many and who was willing to talk to the radio station at the club. Now, depending on where this club is and the local government this owner may be bringing himself some attention that will bite him later but hopefully he knows best for his club and members. |

There are two ways to look at this.... on one hand if they are advertising it in vanilla venues, it will bring in vanillas - so probably not a good night to go if you are wanting to play. Unless you are into whatever it is that they are advertising I'd probably not go. It sounds like they are just trying to drum up business any way they can. There are enough swinging bikers out there that they should be able to promote something like this only in the swinging community without blaring it to the vanilla world as well (I know one of the clubs we frequent in Nashville has a Biker Rally annually and it's not shared across the local news and radio). I seem to have forgotten the other way I was going to suggest looking at it. Personally, I don't think swinger clubs should advertise in vanilla venues. Word of mouth and there are plenty of swinger media options out there that will target the advertising to the audience they want to get. I'd not go on a night they are advertising the club (and opening it) to the vanilla world (where people may be walking in not realizing what kind of club it is). The Rooster is a bit different, there are lots of people who go "just to see" what a swinger club looks like but at least they know what they are walking into. |

The amount of advertising is a function of the expected revenue and the budget is driven by the bottom line. Personally, I can't imagine management merging a vanilla and swing venue. To me, it speaks to the fact that the owner is driven by the bottom line, rather than forestalling all of the problems sure to arise from this merger.... or more likely it is a prelude to a vanilla only venue. In the Bible Belt, I can't imagine any of my vanilla friends going to any place with a reputation of being a swinger spot and I can't imagine mingling with those same folks who could recognize us as swingers. So, to return to my original point, it isn't about quantity it is about quality. IMHO, this attempt to fill the place with vanilla folks is the beginning of the end of the swinging venue. It isn't about how much he spent on advertising, it is all about attracting the "wrong" people, the attention of the district attorney, and the local ladies temperance league. We would avoid the place like the plague.... |
