I love the gangster connection. Are the artesian wells still there? What a great draw that would be! I searched the top 20 gangster movies of all time and got these ideas: Road to Perdition Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (MFM) Pulp Fiction (just love it) Once Upon a Time in America (fantasy theme) Snatch (LOL) Good luck with your plans! |

Well actually, I am finding more history as I dig. The actual well on the place comes from a farmer in the civil war days. The hotel has burned twice and been restored. The natural pools (carved in sandstone by water erosion each year) in the area, made quite a bit of renounced business. The fountain of youth supposedly. |

Being raised in that neck of the woods...I like Hideaway and RoadHouse myself, also. Something not "swinger" sounding. But inviting and intriguing. The well, the history, mmmmm. As said before...hard to say without seeing the spot. Best wishes!

Fun4Ds, I have had this idea lurking in the back of my mind also. I agree with the others that you should stick with the old gangster's theme in naming the place, as well as decorating. But I would shy away from naming the place after a movie or something like that, copyright laws and such might get you more hastles than it would be worth. In order for people to spend the night legally, you usually have to have a license for that, I know that PA allows that, but MD does not. You also have to take into consideration overnight security, otherwise that new flat panel TV in the club might not be there in the morning. An intreaging project, I wish you the best and would also like to have an invite on opening night! S |

So hey, Fun4Ds - which way are you leaning? Have you seen any suggestions you like? Any comments on any of the names posted? Still looking for suggestions, or have you picked out a name? Inquiring minds want to know.... |

Well, Mrs fun thinks its a better idea to lease a place, over buying and renovating. Kinda surprised me though, she preferred a place closer to home. Reality is, there would be times she would be handling things from time to time on her own, if I should be away. That leaves us to think, weekend club only. She mentioned, The Fun House ? I think, It could still be named from my first idea...... couldn't it ? |

This is just me talking here, but leasing opens up a whole new can of worms. When you own a building, you’re the final authority as to what you find acceptable use of the facility (within the law, of course.) Leasing a building brings another personality into the mix, and they will be the final authority on what they deem suitable use for the facility. Some owners just don’t care as long as they get their lease payments on time, the building doesn’t get destroyed, and the police don’t raid the place twice a week. Others might not be so accommodating when they find out what exactly you have planned for the place. I know I’m probably preaching to the choir here, but I figured I toss that out for thought. As far as a name is concerned, what message do you want to convey to the public with the name? Do you want people to relate your place to the lifestyle? Do you want a bit of ambiguity? Do you want a vanilla sounding name? A sexy name? A humorous name? I think that should be the first consideration when it comes to a name – the public at large will see the sign, after all. A friend of ours has been talking about opening a club here locally (he hasn’t actively pursued it, but he’s sure talked at length about it,) and he’s said several times that he wants to cal it The Purple Rose. He says he’s come up with a logo for the place, that is simply a picture of a single upright rose, colored purple. He says he wouldn’t put any words on the sign – just that picture. The way he plans to market the place (if he ever actually does it) he figures the right people will know what the purple rose means, and words are unnecessary. Ok, you don’t want to call it “My Pipe Dream.” How about Fantasy Inn? You will know that it’s been your fantasy to own a club, but others will relate it to their own fantasies, and know that your club is a place they might be able to explore them. The Fun House is a good name. It’s suggestive, but not blatant - we all have a different idea as to what fun really is. How about “The Fantasy Fun Club?” (I have a feeling folks will call it the FFC within a year or two if you’re successful.) That incorporates both elements into the name – your fantasy of owning the place, and the fun to be had inside. Just tossing around some ideas… |

Leasing or purchasing decisions should be made on a financial basis and a as is suitable to your business case. Leasing makes a lot of sense because the lease payment is a valid business expense where as a mortgage payment is not. Also, if the venture goes belly up, then you terminate the lease and walk away. But with a mortgage, you are then stuck with the property.
