Default How likely to attend a house party from ad?

Some people have indicated to us a reluctance to sign up for a party when they don't know anyone else. I didn't see any polls on that, but think it would be interesting to ask.

The poll is basically that you have seen an adv. that there will be house party. If you're interested, you're supposed to RSVP to the host. But you don't know the host, nor anyone else going to the party.

How likely are you to RSVP and attend?

P.S. If the poll doesn't work, I apologize; no experience before with polls.

We would not have any problem attending. In fact, we've done so once this year when a couple we did not know sent us an unsolicited invitation on Lifestyle Lounge. Typically, we will run into someone we know at the party, anyway.

Default Mr here

We will go to a club without knowing anyone there, hopefully that won't last long .

But a house party is a little different for us. We would have to at least know one couple there before we would attend.
Not sure why but I think it's a little different walking into a club and not knowing anyone and walking into someones house.

Some interesting comments from several people.

OK, how can the hosts of a house party put people at ease in coming to a party at a private home where they may not know anyone?

Some ideas we've tried are a pre-party "meet and greet" at a public place where people can get to know others.
Another idea is to get people talking in a chat room, and also on a message board.

Are there other things the host can do to help you decide to go? What about a telephone chat with the host(s)? Would that, perhaps, help you decide to try the party?

We're sensitive to this because we, ourselves, have been uncomfortable when going to a house party where we knew absolutely no one. But ten minutes after arriving, we were chatting with another couple, and laughing with the hosts, and our discomfort was gone. This, we know, is easy to say, but is hard for some people going in to a house party when everyone there will be strangers.

Please write your suggestions. As hosts, we have much to learn and you can help us. (learn)

It's funny you brought this back up today as we just turned down an invitation to a house party yesterday because we didn't know the hosts or any of the attendee's. For us the only way we would go is if we knew some people and preferably the hosts. We have talked to so many people who have went to house parties where they didn't know anybody and were then disappointed or uncomfortable that we decided we weren't interested in learning that the hard way for ourselves.

I'm glad to see this thread and the poll results.

We were recently invited to a house party. We don't know the hosts or any of the other fellow party-goers, but we decided to give it a shot and go to see what it's all about.

It'll be interesting to see how the party turns out.

I can't see us ever attending a house party without having a good deal of knowledge about what to expect from the hosts and guests.

If we knew the hosts well, or, a couple we knew well invited us to join them at a party where they knew the hosts well, we'd consider going.

The closeness of being in someone's home is very different from walking into a public club. A house would feel like walking into a playroom.

We haven't warmed up to group play yet; our only experience with this was at a club where we observed others, and engaged in some play between ourselves. It wasn't stimulating for us. We prefer a more intimate setting when playing.

This might also be why we have reservations about attending a house party.

I think I need to learn more about them. I'm sure I'd have much more to say if I attended one.

Get back to me in a year.

I agree with you on that. When we go to the club, I feel that we can leave at any time without offending anyone. But, if it were a private party at someone's house, I'm not sure I'd feel the same way. I know everyone says it's OK, but it would seem rude for us to bail out early, as if we were saying people weren't good enough for us or something. Know what I mean?

We have a sort of standing invitation to attend one near here, but I'm not sure we ever will.
