Default Did we choose the Wrong Club?

My wife and I have been discussing swinging for a long time. We are both professionals 30 something’s. We reviewed club listings and reviews from this site and others then decided to go for it.

The club wouldn't give it's address until after we pre-paid the cover charge, it was in a horrible neighborhood, the club was dirty, looked quickly built in an old warehouse. The staff was very nice, however the crowd for the most part looked like hookers bums and criminals. One gentleman we spoke with said he lived at a hostel. As my wife said "There is not a person in here male or female I would let touch me" The club had rules such as a dress code, no single males, RSVP required, none of these rules were enforced.

This is something we still want to do but we were looking for a very different demographic (30 something's, people who have jobs, families, homes, etc).
We have been discussing maybe trying a group the holds a monthly social at a hotel thinking there may be people more similar to ourselves, or is the crowd we found at the club going to be the standard crowd at most events?

There are some nice clubs. Best thing is word of mouth and recommendations from people you trust. But we've found overall the quality of clubs here is below what we experienced in Europe.

Default Mrs here-

We have found a wonderful club here that is everything you say you're looking for. Have you looked in the club listing on this site & read the reviews of your area? That may be a start.

Good Luck!!

I gotta tell ya - that guy would have fascinated the hell out me all night. We'd have simply put on the rubber gloves and listened to him ramble...

No - this sounds like a very odd club to us. No wonder they wanted their money up front. The clubs we have attended give you a free tour before you pay a penny. The crowds do tend to run the full spectrum some times, but mostly the people we see are professional-ish folks.

It sounds like you just stumbled across a really bad club...

But don't give up!

PS - I stayed in hostel once... College... Weird times...

Not knowing exactly where you live it is hard to give specific recomendations. I don't think I'm familiar with the club you went to as it doesn't ring any bells but as you describe it I don't think we would go back either.

At the clubs we go to in Reno the average age is around 40'ish but can vary from low 20's to 60 or so. You will also find that the age range will vary from night to night. If you are near Sacramento their is an off premise club that holds meets at a local hotel that people have recomended to us, we have never been in Sac. when they were meeting so haven't checked it out personally.

As lauriern said, word of mouth is the best way to go. For instance in Reno their are three on premise clubs. One is pretty nice and usually has a pretty diverse crowd, one is good and has a little older but good crowd and one is the dump from hell. If someone just came to town and picked a club they could be in for an unpleasant surprise.

No, it's not the standard.

In the future, never give your money until after you've arrived at the club. If they want money up front then "just say no". A good club will not only have you pay at the door but will allow you to tour the place before paying.

Thank You everyone for your replies both on line and PM's.

I have to laugh the three seperate people Pm me recomending the club I was complaining about, and the club was very highly rated in the club section on this page, so I think we have decided that an on premise club probably is not the place for us.

I think I will look into so off premise club in our area.

Thank you agian

In that case, definately be sure to post your own review of the club in question.

sounds like you went to the same club we went to in Vegas.........the only difference is, we never even went in. What a terrible experience for us. We just sat outside watching people go in and out of the club and couldn't get up the nerve to go into the club. We will try a local club sometime when this experiece wears off.
