Default Theme Nights - Yay or Nay?

Ok, I'm curious as to what people in general think about theme nights at their local clubs/socials. Do you usually participate in them? Do you think they are just plain silly? What are your favorite theme nights that you are most likely to participate in? What would make you more likely to participate in a theme night?

For the most part, I don't care for them, and we rarely participate. The exception is that I really like "school girl" night. We usually participate in that one, and we have participated in Halloween costume night in the past. The last couple of years we have DJed the local clubs Halloween parties and I just can't lug all my equipment around in a costume, so I just go in generic DJ garb.

Most theme parties suck for two reasons. On nights like pajama, toga, or Halloween costume night, most of the costumes are a turn off even on the most attractive people. In my opinion, on those nights, the costumes people wear severally detract from the purpose of going to the club in the first place. Kind of like running your car through the car wash with the car cover on, what is the point in paying if you are not going to get what you paid for? The other problem is that most people do not participate, this indicates to me that people just don't like them. It is the same as the problem with Ice breaker games. A few people participate, and the rest are annoyed at the distraction.

I'm planning to go to my first party in two weeks... it's a swinger's club take-over lingerie/pajama party at a strip club. If I wear lingerie into the club do you think that's a bad idea? I would be a little uncomfortable if I was the only girl there in a babydoll and stilettos! I've never worn so little in public so if I'm the only one I'll feel like I'm having one of those bad dreams where I accidentally went to school without any clothes on!

In 13 years of throwing "Theme nights" about a dozen times a year at the club we have found that most do not get into them at all.

Our Halloween Party is our second biggest night of the year so that seems to be the night everyone gets involved. Something about being something other then you normally are I guess.

The tourists that come to the club seem to get into the theme nights more then the locals do. They all keep asking for theme nights but then when we do them only about a dozen of us get involved normally.

I would probably carry my babydoll (nightie or whatever) in with me in a bag then once I felt comfortable change.

My general attitude is that I actually enjoy theme nights MOST of the time. I try to find a way to be sexy within the theme rather than let the theme dictate my sexiness (if that makes sense). IOW just because it's pajama night doesn't mean I'm going to come in a nightgown or pajamas... it'll be sexy (and most likely something I would be just as likely to wear to the club if it wasn't a theme night).

Having done photo shoots for several years I can dig something out that will fit just about any theme... and if I don't have it I can usually find it. The most recent example at a party we went to was "Sexy Boxers" night. We went out and found me a pair of plain black men's boxers that I then rolled up (from the waistband) to make them so that the crotch didn't hang down. Paired that with a black bra (wore a shirt over the bra till we got into the club). I was one of the first ones dressed in the theme that night and was really starting to wonder if I was going to be the only one... but as the night wore on more clothes came off revealing other sexy boxers.

I would like to see more of them ... and that the theme really gets more forced... like not allowing people who don?t dress up to enter the party or that they have higher fees to pay then normal

Sometimes we do. Sometimes we don't.

Our M&G's theme this week is "What I want to be when I grow up". And the theme just doesn't grab us this month. So we'll probably dress "normally".

We would also like to see more theme nights at our club. We also agree with malachita that theme nights should be more enforced. If you show up not in theme, you are turned around at the door, no exceptions. There should be a sign posted before the enterance, so that you are not embarrassed at the door.

That's a sure-fire way to ruin someone's night, just to enforce a silly theme, huh?

Yea, never going to happen, as it is usually the clubs best regular customers who aren't interested in the theme nights. Basically, enforcing themes, in any way = going out of business party.

Lee, I think you hit the nail on the head with the interest in the costume theme. Being in costume let's people be "someone else" for an evening. As far as I'm concerned, because of that "other personality" aspect, even vanilla Halloween costume parties are much more interesting than vanilla non-costume parties. That may just be me, but it probably also explains the popularity of lifestyle "school girl" nights (NTTAWWT as long as just adults are involved, but which, personally, I find a bit creepy) and other dress-up themes.

I've been to only two other types of theme parties at swing clubs, mostly because the theme parties in my area are very popular, so the admission fee for single males is usually jacked-up considerably.

Regardless, I've been to a Mardi Gras party which was a blast. I took some out-of-the-ordinary beads -- that I got at a party store -- and I was more popular than an umbrella vendor during a monsoon. At this point I am not surprised at what some folks will do for a string of cheap, but unusual, beads. I'm not surprised, but I'm eternally grateful...

The other swing theme party was a luau at a campsite with a swimming pool, and very early into the party there was a lot less clothing even than your average toga party.

So, I'd be happy to go to a toga party or a pajama party, too, although, since I don't usually wear pajamas, I'd have to spring for something to make sure I wasn't breaking any clothing rules, at least initially. I guess since I was an official nudist (AANR member) for so many years, though I'm not a member now, I still enjoy casual nudism, and maybe that's why the less-clothing-themed parties just appeal to me.

I guess the house parties we have been going to deserve allot of credit. The themes have been from Hawaii night to executive night. We don't mind wearing a hat or necklace, no biggie.

Bead necklaces are for every holiday or event, these days it seems.

But like I say, it's the couple hosting that go out of their way at their time and expense!

People may dress however I still have to applaud the couples or owners for what they do. They deserve that. Going out if their way and all

I would love to go to a Mardi Gras party! Hell, if I still lived in the south I'd love to go to actual Mardis Gras itself... I always did want to go but just never made the road trip.

Anyway, making a discounted rate for the people who dress for the theme is the best way to enforce a theme night without offending anyone. I really want to go in lingerie to the party next weekend but I think I'm just going to stick with what Julie said and bring it in a bag. Since it's my first time after all.

But who knows how I'll be feeling next Saturday night... might just dress in lingerie anyway. We'll see!
