CraigsList Experience

Recommended Posts

After reading here that several people have used Craig’s List successfully, I was curious to see how it worked. So I came up with an advertisement in the casual encounters area that I honestly thought no one would respond to. Basically “Married White Male – 51 – Seeking Friend, Possibly With Benefits.”

I must have gotten 50+ e-mails supposedly from some sexy young thing “that just moved to my area and really wants to jump my bones. Oh yeah, and because there are so many fakes here, please validate yourself through this site I use.”

The surprising part is that I was contacted by a SBF not to far from me. I have introduced her to the Swinger’s Board and helped her with her internet security.

Bottom line as far as I’m concerned, Craig’s List is the junk yard of internet sites. I won’t be using it again.

Oh, I didn't expect to get anything out of it. We aren't playing right now because there are too many things going on in our lives. I was surprised at the number of BOT e-mails though. I guess there are people stupid enough to click on the links from those or they wouldn't still be in business.

Yes, unfortunately there are people stupid enough to click on those links. In their section of rants and raves, there's even people complaining about it. We've used it for hookups, but few and far between. Mostly what we've used it for is when we need a good laugh at the rants and raves.

Spammers succeed and continue to use their tactics because 1% of the population is stupid enough to keep doing it, and that's roughly 2 million adult people in the U.S. alone.

Early on when my wife and I were getting into swinging, I went into an IRC chat room supposedly for swingers. I was rapidly overwhelmed by bots shaped like 20 year old bisexual Miss Americas and acting like I was the last man on the planet. Needless to say, I never tried that again.

Early on, we also signed up for AFF. What an education! We had no idea there were more single hotties looking to talk to us from our town than our town has population. I'm glad we found that out.

The only swing resources we use online now are this site and SLS.

I haven't even been able to "get rid of things" on it. The couple of times I've tried that I got hit with nothing but bot responses trying to pay me more than I was asking and have me ship to Nirobi.

Funny thing is a single older lady (who is celebate) told me that she posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a date and I about fell out of chair. The scary part is that she actually found a guy willing to chat with her via phone for a month before they met and who (so far) seems to be ok with the idea that he's not gonna get any.

That's the truth. I was a Craig's List newbie until just a few weeks ago when I listed a vehicle and discovered that old, worn out jalopies are evidently in extremely high demand and go for top dollar everywhere but here. In just a couple of days, I had probably 30 contacts. Only one was sorta legit - he wanted me to drive to meet him halfway, and he lives just 30 miles away!

After that experience, don't think we'll be using Craig's List for swinging now or ever.

The first experience we attemtped to have was via craigslist. Ever tried it? It is a wonderful land of deginerates, malcontents, illiterates, fakes, flakes, gawkers, stalkers, creepers, peepers, and just about any other unsavory character you can imagine. With a fresh faced naivete, rivaled only by pubescent boys perusing their first dirty magazine, we entered the unknown.

I posted a few well written (if I do say so myself) ads and responded to a few more. Unbeknownst to me, the ads I posted and the ones to which I responded went to: foreign countries where simple English is a second language, the penitentiary where the most vile criminals are housed, and

spammers. My level of disdain for the aforementioned group is in ascending order as listed in the previous sentence.

Only after several days of frustration, did we decide to leave the land of CL for better opportunities. So, we loaded up the wagon and travelled across cyberspace and landed in the territory of of SLS. We still visit CL occasionally. We have had great success finding: lawn mower parts, selling cars and motorcycles, people willing to let us experiement on their DNA in our basement mad scientist lair, organs for sale, Drs who still use leech therapy, and people who (like us) cling to a belief that the sun rotates around a flat earth.

Yeah, I got the confirm-identity-via-third-party-site BS. *rme's* But there are some seriously hot (pregnant & otherwise) girls on there. *sighs* If only I could get Jenn (my LD gf in Drumheller) here to Vancouver or me to Drumheller. We've discussed certain fantasies.

I sold my snowmobile on craigslist, pretty quickly actually and got a better price than I likely would've had I advertised it in the paper. I had been advertising it by word of mouth for over a year and hadn't garnered much interest. Listed it on craigslist and someone from 120 miles away came and picked it up, and payed cash. I got a lot of scam mails in the process, but they're pretty easy to pick out and avoid. I listed a pickup truck on craigslist and didn't manage to sell it, but I did get a few semi serious inquiries mixed in with the fake offers and scams. I've gotten some pretty good deals on there too.

When it comes to meeting people however, we have a friend in the lifestyle that recently met a guy on craigslist. Chatted with him for 3 months before she agreed to meet him. Everything was going fine, seemed like a nice guy so they went to a hotel . . . and then he raped her. Yes, they had already agreed to have sex from what we understand, but she hadn't agreed to let him beat the tar out of her, which he did. We know other people who have met some really cool people on craigslist, so it's all a matter of keeping one's wits about them. Just like with anything else.

I, Tom, had a great CL experience just this weekend. Was travelling for work, checked CL as a source of potential fun. A couple had posted about a potential mfm, stated they were new to the practice, and wanted to chat on yahoo a bit first because of a less than great experience prior.

I chatted with the female half throughout the day while at a conference, and exchanged pictures. Later that night they let me know they had discussed it, and invited me to visit. It was a fun night, they enjoyed themselves and it was a relaxing, satisfying romp. They said they were very happy I had responded. So CL isn't all BS, scammers, or bi/gay men.

We have some friends who use CL , they claim with more success than their SwingSite profile. We play with them as a couple. They said they have met a few couples on there but ther majority of there scenarios, throught CL, involve single men. Maybe thats their key to success.

We occasionally flip through the casual encounters for a giggle but have never tried to answer or post ads there. We have had good luck selling a used cand household goods there.

Tom...I'm glad it worked out for you using craigslist. However for every experience like yours, there are probably at least 50 single guys searching for MFM that respond to ads that are spammers or bi/gay guys. I don't understand the latter because there is a section for M4M. I don't even bother responding to casual encounter ads on craigslists. That goes ditto for the vanilla women seeking men dating section on craigslist. If an ad is posted by an attractive twenty-something year old seeking to date someone, 9 times out 10 it's too good to be true.

This is exactly how I first started to consider the possibility that my husband and I could have anything other than vanilla, non-monogamous sex. I read the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist. I would never have considered placing an ad there -- too many freaks and weirdos. But it started me wondering whether it might be possible to actually do something out of the ordinary. So although I've never used it for anything other than selling household goods,

Craigslist is indirectly responsible for my husband and I finding the lifestyle.

wow there's a lot of cl hate out there. it is what it is, and to quote someone else, you get what you pay for.

we use cl a lot, and have found a lot of really cool people out there. we use it because it is free. naturally we get a bunch of spam, single men (regardless of whether or not we are looking for that sort of thing or not) and the 'verify yourself here' or 'check oout my profile posted here!' crap. but all in all, if you ask for certain criteria and people don't do it, you just move on to the next response. in all honesty it isn't that much different than regular dating sites.

we also use it because we're bi, and it's not exactly the preference to openly share with others out there, at least we've found that to be the case. on cl, it's anonymity allows us to set the stage for what the other couple sees before you meet. this way straight couples don't waste everyone's time by sending us an email they won't reply to.

When A and I started to talk about playing with others the first place she looked was CL. I have to admit that the idea bothered me but since I had no idea how to go about this I let her go.

At the time, I think my sweetie was more interested in a threesome. (I'm more inclined to have another couple.) The ad she posted was for another man. I wasn't surprised that there were literally hundreds of responses. I made me sad that there were so many people out there that had nothing to do but cruise CL.

Long story short, we hooked up with one guy. He came over and was nice enough. The only problem was that he had his fun and got out of there before A had been properly pleasured. He even tried to stay in contact after A explained to him that he had broken the one rule.

I guess that's why we are here now. I have an aversion to 'stranger danger' and although I check CL from time to time I have noticed that it is always the same old same old.

We tried CL and got mostly fakes and spammers. The few who agreed to meet up backed out at the last minute. But we have a gay friend who has great experiences with CL on the m4m section. Probably depends what you are looking for.

I have tried it before to try and get into the swinger lifestyle and found out very quickly its just full of flakes. 99% of the mw4m is just some dude either posting pics of his wife that she doesn't know about or finding pics online and demanding you said pics just so he can collect them and never reply. Anybody who isn't willing to exchange atleast a couple emails or any replies with links or that even seem remotely unreal I never reply to. Needless to say I don't reply to ANY of the responses lol.

Well...as with any online place there are a lot of fakes and flakes.

I'm used CL many times and have met a number of real couples and even a few single females. To me it's pretty easy to spot the fakes.

My wife and I tried CL's casual encounters board once. Found a posting for a single female looking for a couple to have a threesome with. Well we answered, and ten minutes later got an email from someone with rates that said:

For 2 girls $350 for one hour, $250 for half an hour

for 1 girl $300 for one hour, $200 for half an hour

It was an "Escort Service" but now matter how you dress it up, they were prostitutes.

The funny thing is that at the time I was an MP in the army(a cop), had sent pics of myself in uniform, and still this dumb broad solicited me. At that point i knew exactly who it was. Some group of women that actually targeted male soldiers that lived on post for the majority of their business. Chances are I had the distinct pleasure of peeling her off of some willing soldier that brought her back to his barracks, confiscated any money she was paid for services rendered, and stuck her in jail for 3 days while we made a profile of her including picture to send to the post gate to make sure she didnt get back in.

But in all seriousness, who in their right mind looks for a hooker on Craigslist?

Apparently people do look for sex with hookers on CL or the hookers wouldn't be advertising on CL.

You were looking for sex on Craigslist.

The only difference between you and those looking for a hooker is that you aren't willing to pay for sex.

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity. Any idiotic thing you can think of that seems beyond reason for someone to do has been done, or at least attempted, by many people before you ever thought of it.

I can agree to with that, with my military experience, I came to realize that every single redundant rule and regulation ever passed that I had to abide by was only passed because some dumbass actually did something to merit its fabrication. For instance, the rule that a soldier can only engage in sexual intercourse in the missionary position is an actual regulation. I researched it and the reason it was passed was because some soldier actually broke his dick while engaging in an unsafe sex position, putting him out of commission for several months. So they passed a regulation that the safest sexual position to prevent injury is the missionary position, and if caught performing the act in any other position besides missionary could be punished with a court marshal.

We have posted on CL and replied to ads as well.

It just really got too frustrating as 98% of the ads are not from real people, but from sites looking for those desperate lonely people who are gullible enough to fall for the, "I don't like giving my picture out on the web, but you can go and look at my profile on this site HERE" bullshit.

We have talked with a few, but only met one in real life and we are still friends today.

If you've got a ton of time on your hands, and are willing to weed out all the mess, then that is the only way that it would be worth it to me.

Hello!

My boyfriend and I actually met on CL. My ex-husband and I had posted for another male for me, and he responded. It took several months, many emails and phone calls/texts before we actually got to meet. It was just me meeting him, since my ex and I had just separated. Needless to say, it's a good thing that we hadn't met as a threesome otherwise my ex would have not been so happy...

My boyfriend had met a couple on CL that is VERY cool, and the four of us have played a few times. We have found, though, that there are a LOT of flakes, a lot of gay guys (not our thing), and the couples that do agree to meet up usually just don't show. I had met a few people on CL prior to meeting my boyfriend who were cool, not flaky, etc... Where did they all go? It seems like in the last several months CL has changed drastically...

It can work. I've gotten rid of things on it.

While living in Houston, my now ex, spotted a boat for sale and we ended up getting a great deal on a good used boat. My one and only experience there. Would not even consider the place for finding a person.

If you're buying things, CL is a huge classifieds that you can search. Far better than any newspaper. I have bought and sold many things on CL.

Now if you expect no spammers or duds on CL, you're pretty naive. They're easy to spot and only require the use of the delete key.

Meeting people is the same thing. If you know how to write an ad, you'll get responses. And if you know how to read replies, you'll weed out the 90% junk quickly. Great couples aren't in great supply, but neither are they on Swing Lifestyle or any other site we've tried. You have to weed through the no-goes to get interesting people. If you're a couple looking for a threesome with a guy, CL is heaven. It's just a matter of weeding. If you're looking for a single woman, that's easy nowhere. However we've met three single women through CL.

If you base your opinion of CL on one try, you haven't even made an effort.

We use C/L to find guys for Tiffany and even couples. We chat for a couple of weeks before the event and have strict rules. We ask questions and use their answers to get a feeling of their personality. We require pictures no exceptions. I am surprised at the few males that think the female should send a pic first. We just move onto the 100's of guys that do send their pics. Then weed it down to the final few that she wants to play with. If you want to be successful on C/L and you are a single male. Write up a good ad. Put some thought and creativity to it. Include a pic with the first response. And not a cock pic. A face pic. But you will always have to weed through the fakes no matter what.

We tried CL to find a playmate for Mike's birthday at New Horizons in two weeks. We found a few people who were real (amazing what information you can get with a simple Google search). Sadly, it seems that people are more talk than action. That's not just CL either - same story on Swing Lifestyle really. We were having a few good conversations where they seemed comfortable and excited to join us, then... well, nothing. There's certainly the possibility that we'll hear yet, as it's only been a few days. More likely, the fantasy was enough and we won't hear anything more. It's sad, but that's life, eh?

The only difference between CL and paid sites, IMHO is that having to use the pay sites' proprietary email systems eliminates a lot of bot spam. Sadly, people are flaky everywhere.

We have to agree completely...there are flakes on any site anywhere...I have tried AFF once and found out I was paying to have flakes respond...although there were a few "real" people on there, I would much rather use the free services of CL, weed through the fakes/flakes/bots etc., and still find about the same amount of people you do paying for a service.

I have had the worst luck with CL. :( I only get scary men wanting me to go to a hotel with them on the first meet. Uh...no.
