After I had my 2nd child I was going to get an IUD. BUt after talking to my DR, he told me about all these dangers that can come with having sex with multiple partners. (He had no idea about us having sex with other people b/c at that time we weren't.) Also, I have talked to a friend that had one & heboyfriend said her could feel it when he fingered her & stuff. She las said that sometimes it moved & you had to constatly check it to make sure it hadn't moved. Anyone else that has one of these, have you experienced this our heard of this? |

One of our "friends" has one....certain possitions make it hurt for her and you can feel it sometimes. She has to be careful when having sex since sometimes the guy can ..well....hit it and it hurts her. Personally I myself wouldnt get one...they seem more problems than they are worth. my 2 cents for the day |

I have an IUD and I love it. I've never had any complaints about it hurting partners. I do warn people before hand that they might notice it. Kermit says he only notices it in certain positions. I'd like to address a few things about the IUD. There are only 2 dangers with an IUD. 1. It is possible, however rare, for the IUD to move and hurt your insides. A valid concern. Although, I'm not too worried about it. As long as you are careful to check the IUD for placement at least once a month you're doing pretty good (so says my doctor). 2. If you should manage to get an STD (I think clamydia -sp?- is the one that they worry about but don't quote me on that) it is more likely to travel up the uterus and can cause you to develop VD which can cause irreperable damage to the uterus and tubes and stuff. So, if you're using condoms and getting checked regularly for STD this one isn't any bigger of an issue than it otherwise already is. The reason I decided to get an IUD was that I kept forgetting to take the pills. When I told that to my doctor she was not very pleased to say the least and she gave me a video to watch that outlined every single contraceptive in existance. Once I'd watched it I decided the IUD looked like a great idea. I never really did like the idea of taking hormones and the IUD is not hormonal. I figure my body makes all the hormones it figures it wants and who am I to mess with that (-I might feel differently when I go through menopause... but right now I prefer to remain idealistic.) I think I've clearly said enough on this topic so I'll stop now ![]() ~Piggy |

I had an I.U.D. - and I got pregnant anyway. Ex-hubby actually knocked the durned thing into my uterus. My OB-GYN searched for it when I told him I couldn't locate it. He said it would not affect the pregnancy or the baby and would pass with the afterbirth. I don't know if the I.U.D. was the reason for it but I did miscarry. The one I had was called the Dalcon Shield, and I believe it was removed from the market for a variety of reasons. I don't know anything about those currently available, but would have to assume as with all things - lessons have been learned since the early ones - and improvements made. But still, such a device is for the prevention of pregnancy and as such, does nothing to protect you from STD's. |

I have heard from a few people about babies being born with IUDs. At first I thought it was a bad sign but then I realised that I know the same about pretty much every form of birth control. That's how I rationalised it at least. It's a risk I take I guess by having sex at all. with play partners we use condoms as well so if I were to get pregnant I'm pretty confident that it would be Kermit's and we could handle having a baby if we had too (man would that ever change some plans though...)

After child #2 I went to my family Doctor with my mind set on an IUD. Like Piggy, I didn't want to take any more hormones and with the shift work was getting increasingly absent minded about taking my pills. Although he didn't actually refuse to give me one, he definitely discouraged it. I was talked into the DepoProvera shot and less than 6 months later was pregnant with #3 .
