Cervical cancer or Human papillomavirus infection Is the topic I wanted to hear about, as Swingers or being in the lifestyle its kind of obvious that you will have more than one sexual partner. And hearing things like "Women who have many sexual partners (or who have sex with men who had many other partners) have a greater risk." Causes me to have to ask, what is your out look on this topic, what is your feelings and experience towards this kind of thing? Is anyone dealing with this kind of issue? I mean this has to be a important topic even more so when talking about Swinging. Like I've said before me and my partner are very interested in the lifestyle, but feel we have a lot more to look into before we take the dive, which may be soon, but to be perfectly honest, I don't want to put my partner at any serious risk. Your 2cents will be appreciated, thanks... |

I am not a doctor and I don't even play one on the Internet. I do believe there are some doctors that visit this forum though. I read the same page you did on Cancer.org The next statement on their page should have been read. "Many women may have HPV, but very few of these women will ever get cervical cancer. " There was also a large list of other reasons why women get Cervical Cancer: Birth control pills Diet Having many pregnancies Young age at the time of first full-term pregnancy Smoking Low income Most of those listed will double their rate of getting Cervical Cancer. In over 30 years of being a Swinger I have never met a women that got Cervical Cancer. Yes, there is always that chance. Until this time last year I was able to say I had driven for 40 years without being in an accident. That changed, guess I drove one to many miles that day. I am happy to say that after 30+ years as a swinger I still have never caught anything more then the common cold. ![]() You and your spouse have to know the risks and decide if they are worth it to you. You both could catch something. It might kill you! ![]() Honestly, the best bet would be to talk to your own doctor about these type of things. They know best. Much safer then looking for medical advise on the Internet. Good luck to you both no matter what your choices are. |

The increase risk of cervical cancer is because of the risk of contracting HPV. Not every type of HPV will cause cervical cancer and just because you contract a type that can cause cervical cancer doesn't mean you will develop it. HPV generally works its way out of your system after a few years, but that is not a guarantee that it will. There are all kinds of strains of HPV out there, some can cause cancer, some cause warts etc. It's a risk and HPV is a fairly prevalent condition. Women can be tested easily to determine whether they are infected or not. It's good to do this as a part of a standard STD screening or as a part of a normal gynocological exam. |

Relating back to the topic header: "Cervical cancer from too many male partners?" It is my understanding that Cervical Cancer is not a risk of having intercourse with multiple sex partners. Cervical Cancer is a risk of other influences as VegasLee pointed out in his list, but the greatest influence is HPV. With your topic in mind, I would suggest that having intercourse with multiple sex partners would increase your risk of contracting HPV, which has been known to cause cervical cancer. For example; if you never go out in public and always stay home then your chances of catching a cold or the flu is diminished. However, if you go out into public, your chances of contracting a virus are greater. I think it would be the same for HPV or any other STD. The more partners you have, the greater the risk of infection. I think the risk is pretty negligible of contracting cervical cancer based solely on having multiple sex partners. |

Many of the women I've met mentioned treatment/tests for their cervix. Most didn't appear to understand the HPV and sex connection but sure did have to go in for tests and follow up often. None that I know of have found they had cancer but they do get HPV strains that need follow up to catch cancer early if it happens. Look around Swingersboard cuz I know I've seen posts that mention HPV and THROAT cancer. So men, you are at risk for that if there is a connection. I saw this article recently...HPV is number one for teens. I doubt it's far down the list for the rest of the population. One in Four Teen Girls Have STDs - Yahoo! News As many as one in four U.S. teenage girls have had a sexually transmitted disease (STD), many infected soon after their first sexual encounter, a new government report shows. The study authors found that 24.1 percent of the girls had one of these STDs and among girls who were sexually experienced, 37.7 percent had an STD. HPV was the most common infection (18.3 percent), followed by chlamydia (3.9 percent). |

| Swingers Board Addict | HPV-caused throat cancer in men is an incredibly rare form of cancer; the actual likelihood of that is extremely low. Also, there is currently no test available to test men for HPV. The way they have been able to link HPV to throat cancer is by testing the tumors. Aside from that (and it's too late then) there is no way to test for HPV in men today.

Many years ago, Mrs. Alura came home from a meeting on women's health almost in a rage. I don't believe I ever saw her more angry. It turned out that the lady leading the discussion made the statement, "The more men you have sex with, the more likely you are to get cervical cancer." Laura asked, "How many men would be 'too many'?" First, the woman skirted the question, basically suggesting that more than one was too many. Then it became obvious that her stance was based more on traditional morals than medical knowledge. She really had no real idea of what she was talking about, and never once mentioned HPV. True story: I used to work in juvenile corrections. It was a fact if the young women who were incarcerated to our facility ever had sex, they were to have a pap smear along with a reflex to reflect HPV. Those that had never had sex were exempt from this rule. There were several girls (average age ~ 16) that were incarcerated worked as prostitutes to support their drug habits. First thing that comes to mind is that these girls are probably crawling with STDs. They never had a one. Girls who had sex with one or two partners were the ones that developed HPV. When their reflex would come back, it would tell us what type of HPV they had. Usually, it cleared up within six months. If not, they seen a Gyno for further treatment. A lot of sexual partners does not always equal STDs. |
