Here's an interesting story for us Canucks. While not a swinger story per se it really hits home the need to play safe - at all ages.

You know, I don't think Florida has much to do with it. It just happens that a lot of snowbirds come to Florida. Many go to Arizona, Texas, SoCal, etc. The point should just be that cases of older people getting HIV are on the rise and I would bet you they are on the rise across every state.

"Somebody needs to talk to them about it. The message needs to get out there," she said. Mairs surveyed 299 snowbirds over the age of 50 who winter in Florida and found most were sexually active, and almost half had dated at least one Floridian.

I'm sorry, maybe I missed it ? How many of those 299 has HIV ?

"But only 47 of those surveyed — 17.7 per cent — had ever been tested for HIV, Mairs found." Again I ask, how many have HIV ?

"It's a relevant finding in Florida, where seniors account for 17 per cent of all HIV cases."

According to who ?

"They have less responsibility down there," she said. "They get together with their friends down there, going out more. It's that Florida lifestyle — have fun, be free."

Mairs plans to return in the winter to do a follow-up study to determine whether the risks of infection to Canadians over 50 are similar to the risks to Floridians.

Well yea, So ladies and gentlemen. Now that I have scared the fuck out of ya, you will be paying me to go to Florida this coming winter, won't you ?

Fun and games with statistics. The best thing would have been telling us how many of those in the study had aids and did it track with the state average for that age group. But I guess that would have been too straight forward....or maybe the numbers didn't support their implication.

The Daily Show had a hilarious segment within the last year on unprotected sex with seniors in Florida- but still pretty scary. Guys with genital warts having unprotected sex.

It's funny what you can do with statistics. Even if it were true, speaking as a Canadian, dumb is dumb - no glove no love. It's great to hear the vets take the article apart line by line and expose another factless story.

There is a big no make that huge retirment community just south of Ocala that has been on the nerws with having a high rate of STD's and since our profile states that we perfer mfm we get lots of inquirys from gentlemen from there.

Here's the thing:
A lot of older guys have serious problems maintaining erections with an old fashioned male condom. Female condoms can be better-but folks often need someone to show them how to use the things.

The bottom line:
promotions of condoms alone has NOT eradicated HIV-or even done much more than slow its expansion in the US. Something more is needed-and older folks are one of the groups falling through the cracks
