Good point here. My husband had the big V but because he did, I never really thought about me needing any kind of b. control.. I guess I just think of him when I think of having babies....

I have been surgically safe for almost 30 years. It was one of the best decisions I could have made. At the time, the doctor said to my wife that this does not keep you from getting pregnant. She later also took the surgical route. Don and Ann |

Vasectomy carries an increased risk of prostate cancer. I guess because the channels are not being regularly flushed by cum. This is the reason we have not considered it.

| Vasectomy and Cancer Risk - National Cancer Institute Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men, after lung cancer. In March 1993, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) convened a conference, cosponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, to clarify the available evidence on the relationship between vasectomy and prostate cancer. Scientists reviewed and carefully weighed all of the data available at that time, including results from published and unpublished studies. They determined that the results of research on the association between vasectomy and prostate cancer were not consistent. In addition, the scientists could not find any convincing biological explanation for a link between vasectomy and an increased risk of prostate cancer. Based on these findings, the expert panel concluded that even if having a vasectomy can increase a man’s risk of developing prostate cancer, the increase in risk is relatively small. This is the jist of all the information I've been able to find, and the NCI hasn't changed it's stance on this in at least the last 30 years, which is about how long ago I had mine done. |

In my opinion, once you are done having kids there is no good reason not to get snipped. I had it done 11 years ago after our 3rd child was born and I think it's one of the best decisions we have ever made. A few years later the Mrs got her tubes tied as well and last year she had a hysto for health reasons. We have had a few condoms break, our 1st and 3rd children come to mind. And we have also had 2 break in swinging situations. It's so nice not to have the worry of any more unplanned children. If your a guy and you are worried about the pain it's really a non issue, I had mine done on a Monday and was back to a very physical job on Thursday. As others have stated the Dr gave me orders (in writing) that we should have as much sex a possible as soon as I was comfortable and bring in a fresh sample after 15 ejaculations, we brought in the sample on wed. It was great seeing his jaw hit the floor.

My wife had her tubes tied at last C section. We considered but she is Oral and decided she did not want me to change anything. The prostate risk factored in. Has never been an issue and yes we do ask couples even though we always use Condoms. Every girl we've met has been "safe" through means other than my Condom. ...and yeah, I'm a wimp when it comes to procedures on my balls...so we have not had any compelling reason that would make us reconsider. |

In my case, the deductible makes this procedure prohibitively expensive, for now. My GF is an older woman who is not worried about pregnancy. Also, if I did get snipped, I would like to get paternity insurance. As far as I know, this is unavailable.... |

Not all swingers are in their 30s or older, or done having kids..or have even started having kids... I'm 24, my SO is 29. We are not planning on having kids but I want the option open to me if in 9 years we decide we want kids. I am not old enough to consider life changing surgery like that and I would never consider playing with someone who was offended that I wasn't "fixed." It is MY responsibility and my SOs responsibility to keep from getting pregnant. No one elses. If I had to rely on other people to keep my woman theatre empty then I wouldn't be having sex. I'm on the pill (with perfect use) and we use condoms. We do what we can to keep from getting pregnant. We've also discussed the repercussions of an accidental pregnancy. |

We haven't started having kids yet, but even when we're done I don't think that either of us will get surgery to avoid more kids. Neither of us like to have any medical procedure that isn't needed. Hell, I don't even like taking Tylenol unless I absolutely have to.

I don't like taking drugs either and didn't for my vasectomy. I recently had surgery for a hernia, and that was surgery. In comparison to the not that heavy duty surgery of a hernia, a vasectomy can hardly be considered in the same ballpark. I've had many far worse cuts in my profession than a vasectomy offers. It's outpatient and hardly worse than many slivers I've pulled out over the years. And the cost? No more than a couple nights on the town, or even one night in some cases. To be absolutely sure that I can't cause pregnancy...priceless. To rely on condoms for pregnancy protection simply postpones the pregnancy for a while, in most cases. Yes, men are often wimps when it comes to the most reliable pregnancy protection available to them. And the cheapest. |

How do you figure? Cost is about $1000 - $1200 My deductible is $2000. I had a hernia operation 3.5 years ago. Had a $3000 deduct. Had to pay >$3500 for a $5000 operation - took me 2.5 years to do it. | |
