Absolutely, condoms offer no real protection against herpes and only serve to lower the chances of contracting it by a minuscule amount. Even looking for sores is not a foolproof method for keeping safe. Most people with herpes never show signs of the disease, but can still transmit it. Even people who do get sores will be contagious when there are no sores present. There is just no good way to know who to avoid having sex with to avoid catching herpes
