Today Sponge

Has anyone used the Today Sponge for birth control? At home, hubby has a vasectomy, but with other partners, I feel like I want to use a condom backup. I REALLY REALLY don't want another baby and I'm not sure I could do an abortion.

I've never used the sponge, and am curious how it affects other fun such as receiving oral. Does it have a nasty taste (the foam it emits)??

They're back, and I've used them and never received a complaint.

Check around. This is in Canada, sometimes things are available in one place and not the other.

They were brought back in 2005.

Here's some more info:

today sponge - What is the contraceptive sponge?

We used to use them back in the nineties, they had a tendency of popping out sometimes if you cough.

Have you considered the Depo shot? Ar far as oral, just put it in after the oral foreplay, it only takes a few seconds to put it in.

This is what we do. It's glorious to not have to worry about a period anymore.

Us too, for the last 5 years or so. We cycled off for a while, which is what is recommended every couple of years or so.

Some insurance companies will cover the Depo shot, BTW.

Okay,

So I'm typically against taking hormones via birth control pills, depo shot or whatever.........especially for swinging that is likely to happen a couple times a month, tops.

But considering that my other post today is regarding the fact that I am due to have my period both at our August swinging party and the one we had planned on for September, maybe I should reconsider one of these new birth control plans that let you skip your period.

Thanks for the input, I think an appointment with my doctor is overdue.

And if anyone else has experience with the Today Sponge to share, I'd really appreciate it.

A girlfriend I was dating used them before she started to get the depo-shot. We never really liked them due to taste, of all things.

1) If you're going to have men go down on you, put the sponge in AFTER they're done. We learned that if I ate her after she put the sponge in, it would leave a nasty disgusting taste.

2) The girlfriend in question liked to go down on me after intercourse. We had to stop that too, because of the taste of contraceptive on my penis.

She decided to try alternates, and ended up using the depo-shot. It was shortly after that her personality changed dramatically and we ended up drifting apart*. So, as you can imagine, my opinion of either one of these is less then stellar.

(* - she dumped my ass)
